Variant Villains Disappearing?! (VERY Small Spoilers)

During part 4 of the Skylander Kids' lets-play of Trap Team, they trap Cuckoo Clocker and put him in Riot Shield Shredder's trap. They then go to the villain vault and realize Riot Shield Shredder is completely gone, and wiped from existence! I thought TFB said the variant villains were tied to the trap! This really angers me, and it may widely affect my purchases assuming there are more variant villains. However, perhaps when they trap Shield Shredder in that trap again, he will become a Riot variant again! Your thoughts on this subject?

Well, I'm glad we have the streamers as canaries for this. They get a lot of that stuff gratis, so at least we can find out about it before someone who spent a decent amount on eBay gets burned.

Do we know anything yet about cloning villains into multiple traps?

I still think if you trap Outlaw B&C/Riot Shield Shredder in their own traps when it's time to trap them, they'll become a variant again. TFB has said the variants are "tied to their traps", so maybe this is what they meant.

That does seem the most logical to me, and prevents infinite cloning regardless of Vault mechanics. It also follows the spirit of the variant following the toy itself. I guess the question remains as to whether the legendary traps will do anything cool.

I was interested in this so I looked at the video myself. It doesn't look like they've captured a regular Shield Shredder, so maybe that is why he's not in the vault.

They should try capturing a Shield Shredder and putting him back in the Riot Shield Shredder trap to see if the alt deco comes back.

We actually completed Chompy Mages quest twice and both times we lost his evolved status even though it shows his quest is complete, we can't get back his new evolved wardrobe unless we do it again.

My thoughts exactly. Even if they've made some bad decisions in the past, Activision wouldn't make you completely lose a variant.

Seriously? That sucks. Do you lose the evolved status when you put him in the vault or when you override the trap with a new catch? To clarify does the act of trapping cause the over ride or does it wipe your status when you do a simple transfer at the hub? Man it sounds like they are really strong arming you into buying a trap for every villain and leaving them in or else you will need to redo the upgrade...shysty.

Skylanderkids, can you see what happens to the current trapped villain if you start another file and trap a villain there? Also can you empty a trap by putting a villain in the vault or can you just switch them out?

It doesnt seem to let you empty a villain into the vault but when switching out, it should remember evolved status like our Cuckoo Clocker evolved, Sheep Creep and Gulper. Have had no problems with them.

So more on Chompy Mage, we completed his quest, he turned a new color, then we used it to trap someone else and then upon putting him back in a trap, he was green again!

Then on a different gamesave, we completed the quest again, brought him to a different game save and tried to put him in the villain vault like that, but it didn't work. We then went back to the old game save and tried to put the new ly completed quest Chompy Mage in a trap again and bam, he was green again on both game saves now.
We have had one Trap Team update on the xbox one, so it looks like they can patch this time around.
Hopefully they fix it.

This isn't on purpose, it's just a glitch from what we can tell and so far, it's only been the two villains we mentioned.
Evolved Kaos still works. smilie I tested on two Kaos traps!

Awesome thanks for the clarification Skydad. Yeah I figured they'd need to be able to patch this time around. With the "vessel" tech on the traps it seems like more can go wrong than with having static "learnable" code in the toy.

That could be a reason that they sent the game out to people early so that they could patch any glitches that they encounter. By the way, what colour does the chompy Mage turn into once you complete the quest. I've only watch part 1 of your playthrough and not going to watch the rest until I complete the game myself as I don't want to spoil the surprises smilie

Glad to hear it's only a glitch! Maybe since you know people in Toys For Bob, you can contact them about it and they'll be able to send out an update like you said!

Actually, we have not played Chapter 7 and on yet, we don't want to rush just to make youtube gameplays, we want to enjoy the missing wave 1 and hopefully a quick wave 2 launch figures for the rest of our gameplays. smilie

The Trap itself will retain the Variant data inside of it. When you recapture Shield Shredder on that Trap, he'll have the Riot prefix and the alt colors.

I'm not 100% sure about it, so don't quote me on it.

^ Yes. You don't lose the variant, it is tied to the physical trap itself, not the villain from the vault in game.

Based on earlier confusion about traps, I'm sure there will be a lot of "interesting" bugs that make it into the final product. Can't wait for them to get a patch out...oh wait...

Update:
I don't know how, why, or exactly when.... but during our Chapter 1-6 (5 and 6 not even on youtube yet) gameplay vids, Riot or Regular Shield Shredder was not in our vault.
Now, he is :/
So we haven't even trapped him yet but we have him in the vault, if I use a life hammer, it's regular shield shredder, if I use the original torch from E3 it in fact goes to RIOT. So it is trap specific, the problem is there are no variants listed in the vault, no way to choose/view them or dump them out of a trap.

It's still weird that he did not show up in our vault for days! Again, not sure why all of a sudden but here is a screen shot.

So I keep seeing the Villain Vault displaying a total of 46 Villains. The Joystiq review mentions 55 trappable Villains. Does that mean there are 9 Villains spread out over the 4 Adventure Packs? Or was the reviewer incorrect? Here's the review for reference.
