Maybe I'm a little more old school with my gaming, but I seriously think there's way too many Trap Team videos out there. I don't mind a snippet here or there, but I think the level of excitement people show for all these character gameplay videos and the chapter gameplay videos will lead to disappointment when Trap Team is actually released. The game itself is a children's game and isn't that complicated to begin with, so I don't think it leaves much to the imagination if you have already seen most of what you are going to be playing. I didn't see any gameplay footage for Spyro's Adventure and Giants before playing it with family members and barely saw anything of Swap Force other than character designs...I loved discovering levels as I played them and the anticipation of what was next in the storyline. Not bashing everybody who gets giddy every time a new video pops up, but am I in the minority of Skylanders fans here who wants to play around with new characters on my own without seeing their attacks beforehand and see levels unfold as I play through them? Just curious.

With October approaching, users will have to spoiler their discoveries and content since the game isn't going to released on the same day as Australia, the US, Europe, and other areas. Some fans who went to TFB before the game release are bound to post what they are allowed to record and show until the game's release.

you are not alone, though probably in the minority. i try to avoid most videos, i usually only watch one or two gameplay ones to get an idea how the game plays overall, to see whether it is still something i will enjoy, once thats been established, i avoid level videos, and any character gameplay. like you, i enjoy discovering the story as it progresses, and learning about the characters moves myself.

I definitely skip the Level videos. I do like the Meet the Skylander videos though, that helps me figure out which characters I want to buy. Since that's extra cost, I like the preview.

It makes me kinda laugh how some people were complaining not too long ago that there was nothing on news or new information then when people get it... there's 'too much' spoilers '_'

It's just the fact that all of the News and footage is of level playthroughs or character based. Nothing on actual content to the game really. Kaos Mode was revealed, but no PVP. Stuff like that is the kind of info they want, Myself included. Character gameplay I'm fine with but isn't really a necessity like the Games Content and Replayability is.

i dont watch any of the videos anymore. i only watched the first playthrough of the first level, and that kaos mode video. i did so to get an impression of how the characters movement was. i dont watch the other videos as you said it just spoil the fun. what we really need now is to see the menus and go through all the option/collector stuff that is there. so we know what we get into when get the game... other than that the youtubers should stop putting out game playthrough videos of the game. they sure ruin the exploration fun of the game for people watching them.

But it's their job to show what new details and information about Skylanders the devs allow them to showcase to the target audience, even if it's spoiler-like. Game journalists do that.

the information people were/are after is not the specific level playthroughs or individual character videos that is being discussed here, but more generalised information on gameplay mechanics and different modes, villain quests etc, stuff that adds to the replay value

Last time I noticed game journalism was about clickbait and cherry picking, Aura, but that's a story for the Video Games board that I'm never telling, one that has nothing with the youtubers and HDroom thankfully. But while more level footage isn't bad... Level 12?! That's a little too far ahead in the game for my tastes, not to mention the dialogue of both that and Chef Zeppelin is horribly spoilery(avoided it as soon as I read a line or two, thankfully). TFB locked the game after 13, sure, but even if they're planning this big endgame plot twist according to one of the recent articles, the journey kinda matters too. But I can just not watch the videos and play it blind later in November. It's just quite a shame that I'll probably have to leave this board a week before I planned with all these footage and with the risk of unspoilered things. Really difficult to not come back and discuss what we already know :U

While I admit that the Chapter 12 gameplay was so spoiler-filled that the youtuber should have heavily cautioned his watchers for, this wasn't the first time TFB allowed a youtuber to record some very spoilerific content. I recall back in 2012 when a youtuber was allowed to record and post his gameplay battle against Drill-X several weeks in September before Giants came out.

People wanted to see the villains. Not all of them could be shown in Chapter 1.

I avoided to see as much villains as I could. I want them to be a surprise for when I'll play the game. I also watched only gameplays of a few levels (a bit of Rainfish Riviera, the Sewers of Supreme Stink and Phoenix Purch), but all the Skylanders videos, since I wanted too see at least how they appear in game, and a few of their attacks. I think one of the things that made me enjoy SWAP Force a bit less than Giants, was that I watched too many videos. It is possible that, next year, I won't even watch the "Meet the Skylanders" videos, since I will try to buy them all anyway.

Like several others have said, I only watch the videos that pertain to the figures or characters themselves, such as the "meet the skylanders" videos. The only level gameplay videos I watch are the ones that were released during E3 since those are typically early levels. Plus that was so long ago I've already forgotten most of the details. lol.

they can put up spoilers warnings and cut the videos, so they show specific things only and not the whole game. then those that want to watch the videos, can watch without the whole game get revealed. but its about self control too for the viewer, i chose not to watch anymore.

I'll admit, those level videos are tempting, and I had to stop myself from watching them to avoid these spoilers. But dude, everyone's been asking them for more gameplay. We got more gameplay and now you're saying the games gonna be no fun? Keep in mind we still don't know about those question marks on the poster, and the updated Skylanders website showed us that there's at going to be 5-6 villains per element, AND need I bring up the "Unknown Element"? I think we still have plenty to look forward to.

Ehh there's a kind of implied "viewer beware" when you click on a video for a game that isn't out yet. I personally don't care and know what I'm getting into when I click on a game play video. Skylanderdad has this nice new format where his daughter sets up what you're going to see in the video. It's a nice touch and you can't say you weren't warned. I think we are going to be disappointed in the dept. of things to do with our Skylanders when compared to Swap Force. Now I don't "know" this and I am speculating here. Based on whet we've seen (or haven't seen) and knowing that T.F.B. still think they're making games "just" for kids, that doesn't bode will for those of us with larger attention spans...."squirrel!!!". T.F.B. always make fun core game though so no worries there. I'm just concerned about re-playability and having activities that will help progress my figures without feeling too grindy. |

Ah, I'm not by myself. I've watched most of the vids out there, Skylander Dad has gotten TONS of views from my son and to a lesser extent me (its what he wants to watch, never gets sick of it heh). I ate all the videos up, but as the level vids pop up, I just don't have much interest in watching them. I walked out and just worked on cleaning when my son was watching Skylanderdad's playthrough of the level with Chef Pepperjack. I saw the fight, but for the most part, I think it stumbles into the realm of "I'll wait". My son won't though hahaha - Unreall |

I think it's funny that at this point I tell my oldest to stop watching YouTube and start playing games already. It is kind of silly when you play through a game that you already have watched someone else play in its entirety. That said, we do expect to replay Skylanders levels a few times to get all the stars/stuff, but it is nice to experience it fresh at least once...

Not necessarily. I've been a MMO raider for almost a decade and we watch test videos and strat. videos all the time. Seeing it done and being able to do it yourself are two completely separate things. Now I'm not discounting being surprised by the content in a game the first time you play it. I know that's important to a lot of peeps, just not me. |

Fair enough. I definitely watch hint videos to avoid spending hours looking for collectibles in some games, or maybe a strategy for a really difficult part. I've done it for raids as well. He does seem to really enjoy the commentary, and a lot of streamers are pretty funny, but for a story-driven game (flatness of story in some games aside) I think [personally] it is nice to keep some things as surprises. That and they curse a lot in the videos he watches At least he understands that his YouTube privileges are going away the minute he repeats any of them.

Oh yeah I totally agree on the story points (for the most part). The battle with Kaos' mom with the "trick" employed to beat her actually made me laugh out loud and definitely would have been spoiled if I saw it in a play through video. For the most part they (Activision) usually restricts last act footage before the game's launch. My daughter LOVES Skylanderdad's videos. She's 9 (soon to be 10) but she love how the whole family gets involved. I know what you mean also about the language of some tubers. I personally don't mind and can swear with the heartiest of sailors but not around the kid. They are parrots at this age and without knowing what they are saying will simply repeat what the hear for the reaction alone. |

I wasn't one of the people complaining about the lack of info ._. But as some people said, 3-4 levels were more than enough to know graphics and gameplay. People want clarifications on mechanics and figure releases and some more complex stuff, and no amount of spoilers is going to solve that.

I've only been big on one MMO - City of Heroes - but its a poor comparison. The difficulty of planning a successful raid, along with organizing and communicating for it - goes WAY beyond anything Skylander's related. The games - even on the hardest difficulty - are easy (which is why I'm looking forward to Kaos mode, finally stretch my leg muscles a bit). There are no 'tricks' or 'special methods' needed to do or beat anything in this game. I can't even think of any character glitches to capitalize off of. - Unreall |

I understand watching videos for strategy of certain games, but Skylanders is a kids game and doesn't require much technique or strategy. Beyond going on YouTube to find the location of a treasure on a particular level after missing it on your initial play through, there isn't really much complexity requiring you to hop online for videos as there is for other strategy games. The story line in levels is basically linear and doesn't allow for much deviation. It would be great if they made a more complex Skylander game with multiple outcomes in the storyline depending on how you play or which Skylander you use, but I highly doubt that will ever happen. Regardless of my views, in this digital age, we should expect to see gameplay videos online of even the simplest of games. |
