I'm only getting on Instagram for this thing...and yet I see nothing from TRU on this. Am I doing something wrong or has nothing been put out yet?

Is this for Canada?

This would have more of an impact if they weren't already sold in TRU stores.

Did some searching and I found the following with a picture of the figure:

Some stores screwed up and released him early. Doesn't look my local one did.

Regardless, the instagram pic is up now. 1st 10 people with the instragram pic get shroomboom free. singles, bogo 70%.

Apparently, this isn't supposed to be till noon today, but they my store let me and another customer early since the instagram 'ad' didn't specify that.

Also gave us the trap character poster. 2 of them.

And for those w/o smartphones (like me) they will honor a printout of the Instagram picture w/ message. Got mine just now. The manager gave me a Trap Team & old Swap Force poster too.

Since I can't make it at noon (Pacific time), I just bought one. They have them available online at toysrus.com as well.

Just got mine. Straight forward with no issues. They cut the bottom of the plastic so they could put an X over the bar code. I guess so you cannot try to return it. No big deal for me since I don't keep any of my skylanders in their package.

I went in to get a 3DS starter pack for $15 (for a Volcanic Eruptor) using the Frito Lay coupon and was able to snag a Shroomboom for free as well. 4 figures, a new portal, and a new 3DS version of the game all for $15 plus tax is probably one of my best Skylander hauls to date. To note, there wasn't anybody else around at noon waiting for a free figure & nobody at all shopping the Skylanders/Disney Infinity aisle. These sales so late after game release don't seem to be pulling in many customers.

I managed to snag a Shroomboom, the 3DS Starter Pack, AND a free LightCore Hex for $11 total. Pretty nice. Now I've finished with SWAP Force, for now, at least.

Went to go to my TRU and I presume the C team was in charge today. They had no clue what I was talking about and had to look it up. My buddy came out for it as well, and a guy came up to say it could only be one figure per cell phone. So I explained how I didn't have a smart phone and I asked if I could show the Instagram thing to them on my laptop that was in my trunk. They actually had to go ask around and try to look up official rules!

So while I was standing around waiting on something so simple, they actually tried to sell me a smart phone from their selection they have at the store. As if I wanted to buy one of their smartphones to get a free figure... a free figure that I really only went there to get on the basis of it being free, since I don't even care for Shroomboom to begin with. Took about 8 minutes before the guy came back and said it was fine to show it on the computer... even though they were still trying to read the rules. So eventually they gave me one and said they weren't supposed to give us a poster as well but would. Fun times.

It was a sad sight. This store is usually so much better than this.

Just had to tell the lady that I had the post. Picked him up and went to see if they had any characters without variants (Boom Jet, Stink Bomb, Trap Shadow, etc.) but they literally only had characters with multiple variants/reposes. Muncy, PA btw.

No one showed up for it at my store.

got mine! i was there 20 minutes ahead, and just hung out till 12.

Snagged a second from another TRU for my fraternity brother's son. Picked it up at 5PM EDT, and it looked like they still had 6-7 of their allotted 10. Helped the next woman in line find it on her phone so she could get it for her son.

I went to my TRU at like 5pm, walked up to the counter, asked for the giveaway, and the guy just handed it to me without saying anything LOL! I didn't even have to show them an instagram image or anything. I felt kinda bad for a father and young son browsing the electronics department. I spoke with them and they already knew about it and were going to go up and get the free figure in a while after browsing (they were really taking their time). But right when they finally went up, another collector had just gotten the last one. You snooze you lose I guess. Especially considering this was after 5pm.

I had forgotten to check what the deal was and was in the store last night. I've had my phone disconnected, so I couldn't get online to check, so I figured I lost out. I walked by the electronics register and noticed an opened box of Skylanders. I told the guy working that I knew there was supposed to be a Shroomboom giveaway announced the day before, but I had forgotten about it. I was wanting to see if he could give me any information on it, but before I could finish, he picked one up out of the box and handed it to me. He said it wasn't supposed to be given out for another couple of weeks, but he would let us have it, anyway. Our store had just took a Sharpie and blacked out the plastic over the bar code.

On another note, my son begged me to do an unboxing of it. I tried to explain to him that it didn't do anything different and that he was already trying to get rid of his non-lightcore Shroomboom since he never played with it, but he didn't care. I had to agree that it was his to do with what he wanted to. I finally gave in and decided to do a fun video with it. Once I get it edited, I may try posting a link here, if that's OK.

As for a poster, the guy didn't say anything. I'm really not sure if the guy didn't know what he was talking about or if they had another box for another promotion coming up. The fact that they seemed to have a full box the day after giving them away for free without any purchase seemed odd to me.

OK. I finally got the video I mentioned edited. It didn't turn out as great as I had hoped, but to just shoot it on my iPhone at a spur of a moment, I guess it's OK. Plus I was working with a 6-year-old, so I couldn't do things exactly as I wanted to. But he did a great job (despite his poor shooting at the end ).

My wife and I got there first thing in the morning and they wouldn't even sell any of them before noon. At noon, they popped out a box cutter and actually cut out the bottom of each bubble where the bar code was and blacked out the bar code right on the paper inside of the package. I ended up with one freebie (to give away to my friend's kid who will want to open it) and a poster then bought two that hadn't been mangled by the staff so a friend and I could have non-damaged displays. Apparently TRU management had sent out an email that morning specifically telling employees to cut the packs out and mark the bar codes directly to prevent resale of the free ones. (sigh)

I went to 2 stores, and neither marked the package or did anything to them. I had called one store the day before to ask about the promo, and the guy in electronics said they planned to have their table set up when the store opened (9 a.m.) and were giving them out to people who pre-ordered Trap Team. He said they were only supposed to give out 10, but they had 2 cases and were going to give them all out. I got there at about 10:30 a.m., and there were plenty left. Pre-ordered Trap Team for a dollar (hadn't done that yet), and got the figure without showing the instagram post or anything. Went to the 2nd TRU and they were not giving them out until Noon and limiting them only to the first 10. They required me to show them the Instagram post on my phone, but didn't mark up the packaging or anything. There were only 2 other people besides me there trying to get one.

^I had the same experience at the two stores I went to. No mangling whatsoever.

I just checked the bottom of my Shroomboom and found that it was not marked at all. I guess they were supposed to but, the C team being what they were, they must have forgotten.

Just got one of these off eBay for $6.50 shipped. Given what people were originally expecting to have to pay for them, it's nice to see my patience pay off.

I'm more laughing than feeling sorry. None of these little plastic toys are worth $800 to begin with.
