What happens if you don't trap?

I was just wondering, if you hit the "Don't Trap" button after defeating a villain, do you have to replay the level and trap the villain later, or does it just send them to the villain vault? I'm just curious because I plan on getting each villain they're own trap. Thanks if you respond.
