Well, looks like the "winner" of the Frito Lay contest was revealed..

So basically "everyone wins!". Oh well, when I get High Five and Flip Wreck, I'll just change their names to their prototype names. If I haven't grown to use to their new names.

I haven't grown to wanting Flip Wreck to exist. Hopefully there'll be actual judging next time, I've seen joke entries around here better than that. Well, at least I'll vote with my wallet and stay the heck away from the fan named ones.

Well, everyone who entered that wasn't those three lost. The real lame is that they didn't bother to judge, and probably picked those three randomly. High Five had the best backstory one could make with 200 words out of those three but it was still kinda meh, Bat Spin seems to be almost a mockery of SF backstories.... Flip Wreck's backstory is more like train wreck. I'd be totally fine with the 3 winning if they were all good to begin with.

Heh. I posted this info awhile ago - but the forum gestapo got their panties in a wad and the topic was shut down before folks really started talking about what was in it.

Maybe now would be a good time for some folks to look back into that and see what else can be found.

I kind of wish that this contest never happened because the names suck, the backstories suck, and the people at Activision didn't put any thought into picking the winners.

No, they said they'd let you choose name AND backstory. The short ones are because there was a 200 word limit, though someone took it as 'don't do a backstory at all' even if that's against the rules.

My best bet is that TFB enhances the backstories of these contest Skylanders, hopefully.

Well, after all, a name like "Bat Spin" isn't that different from other originals such as "Scorp".

Call me a moron, but I've NEVER noticed High Five had four wings.
I tought it was an effect to add movement on his art.

Well, that makes him even more unique.

That's true, but so is "Scorp".
And that is a V.V. made name.

Bat Spin is meh, but not that bad. The main problem is that it isn't even a pun, the backstory makes it clear the kid just put the two words together based on her appearance.
And at least Rip Tide is a pun because he uses a sword. Not so sure about the rest, Trigger Happy is an expression and Wham-Shell might be a pun on Bomb Shell (which ends up being brought up here as a villain) but it's hard to tell.

High Five is adorable! I'm not going to be able to resist him.

I hope bat spin and high five are in wave 3. They look dope!

What I'm not too happy about is any lack of an official announcement. Bad form to get it off of a shipping box.

Definitely getting High Five and nicknaming him "Zippy". Also, I really hope he can fly.

I'm glad High Five got to keep his name. Hopefully they fixed the backstories. But yeah... No Flip Wreck, we don't know for sure. Maybe there was a tie?

Is it just me or do the Bat Spin/High Five figures look... lower quality than the other figures? They kinda look like they were made out of clay, but it might just be the resolution of the picture.

Probably. I wouldn't sweat it. Toy quality is one of TfB's strengths.

Guys, stop the hate! Just because the have bad names (even though I like all 3) that doesn't mean that they suck. Be patient and wait for gameplay before judging them as the worst. If I judged by names I would HATE Camo and Wham Shell. Honestly Bat Spins name could be worse like Scary Bat Person. As for High Five, He is my new favorite Skylander and he can be the first Life to fly and he can go quick and I think he could do something cool. Flip Wreck might have a horrible backstory but remember that this game is for kids mostly and there will be some not as complex backstories like what a teenagers and adults can write.

All I can say is don't judge a book by its cover and be patient. If you hate the characters for design/ Gameplay thats understandable. If you hate them just because of the name it's unfair to the Skylanders but I guess hate what you want.

I'm personally waiting for gameplay before hating ANY of them although High Five is definitely on my wish list.

The only good name was Flipwreck IMO. But how do we know Activision didn't just create these names themselves?.....is there any proof these were actual chosen entries?
This "contest" made these characters come off as cheap. Prob won't get any...maybe Flip. They just don't fit to me. I dunno.

Sigh... The voting was to choose your favorite name to get ONE winner. It was not about choosing which name/character is kept.

I'm just gonna save my money for that Day 1 binge. Also I totally agree with you on Bat Spin's name. Totally should have gone with Frightengale.

Only two of them were revealed, the original name for High Five is Buzzerker and Frightengale is Bat Spin's original name.

I'm actually fine with the other two names, especially after I saw the "5" on the mask/helmet of High Five. However, I do have to take a bit of my own advice: this is a kid's game. I should expect a childish name like Bat Spin. It's made by a child for a child's game, so when I stop to put it into perspective I guess it's not all THAT bad. I can imagine one of the children in my class coming up with a name like Bat Spin.

Yeah but the contest had IN THE RULES that they'd judge creativity and wittyness. There are plenty of people here that could enter the contest that already mentioned funny names, and in a game where puns that make me grind my teeth like Lob-Star are common, there SHOULD be creativity and wittyness. High Five is the only one that even gets close to the requirements in the rules, since Bat Spin goes against 'creative name that has meaning' and Flip Wreck breaks 'write a backstory for your character' on the spot.

Kid's game doesn't mean dumb and lacking creativty. Nintendo isn't as good as it is today talking down to children, and that was one of the things that made SF so bad.
