It's so bizarre that Shroom Boom is on there. If it was a cast-style logo with 6 or 8 characters, that would be one thing. But this borders on deception...

Well, I guess that means these really are the figures officially released with the 3DS.
Looks like I can cancel my pre-order for the 3DS starter after all. I've already got Barkley, and Gusto is single.
I'm really surprised we're not getting an exclusive variant again this time, like Dark Spyro, Punch Pop Fizz, and Volcanic Eruptor.

If it uses the Giants Portal, then maybe SWAP Force won't swap.

Unless it's an upgraded version of the Giants Portal.

Yeah, because the entire world has TRU and not just the US.Though it'd be nicer if they had the Mini be someone who wasn't in a Starter Pack already - both Stealth Elf and Tree Rex were so Life shouldn't really be used.

Interesting.... though I am curious as to why they gave it tit's own logo....they trying to further show people the 3DS version only shares the name of trap team. (as does the rest)... other than that... well for starters I'm pretty sure swappers can still swap... just because the design is old doesn't mean it is the old portal. Though with that being said... almost wish they had a 'portal owners pack' I mean with no traps (unless it's hidden on the design to try and make it more portable *doubt it though*) don't see a reason why they couldn't... unless they're like "We don't want the others to get jealous." But yeah does looke a bit better too. So good find.

I understand that and that's why it wasn't my only point but used as a follow up using the "and". I do believe the U.K. has TRU so it's not just us...and Canada. My main point was that I don't think they should have used a previously released figure. To my knowledge the only element that hasn't been in a starter is Earth. Imagine how many more 3DS starters they would have sold with Bop in the box instead...food for thought Activision.

Eh, the previous 3DS versions are entertaining albeit overly straightforward games. They were worth it for the unique figure they contained if you could find it on a really good sale. I'm not sure it is worthwhile anymore now that it doesn't have anything unique. At least they learned and brought the retail down for the Starter, but they also leave out content. For $10 you get a console version, a regular figure instead of a Mini, two traps and the new portal. I wonder if they intend for Barkley to remain exclusive to the 3DS Starter.

Scaled down game, scaled down pack-ins. Price should be lower than $64.99.

It's already known that Barkley isn't unique to the 3DS version.

In my opinion now though, all they need to do is announce that it is the same game as on consoles, and they will lose 99% of all of their pre-orders.

Gusto is part of Trap Team. He traps things, even if not in this game. If this was about the actual traps, it'd be Skylanders: Traptanium or Skylanders: Doom Raiders (or Kaos Alliance since it was the one that's probably the original title)

Or it could be anything at all tbh given the Spyro's Adventure 3DS and Swap Force 3DS stories.

Once again, 3DS-only owners get screwed.

For SSA - all three included figures were sold solo, while none of the console figures were. Sure, Dark Spyro was only sold solo overseas, but at least he was just a variant.
For Giants - Punch Pop Fizz was sold solo (overseas only) and was just a variant, while the single Jet-Vac never made it to the US and was pretty limited overseas.
For SWAP Force, none of the Console figures were sold solo. Both of the 3DS Starter SWAPpers were made available release day. Surprised there hasn't been a solo Volcanic Eruptor released overseas, but, again, just a variant. 3DS version also got cheated out of a Dark Edition

For Trap Team, still no Dark Edition, an old portal, a Trap Master that's a Day One release, a SideKick that has previously been released and, if you want all the SideKicks, you're going to have to buy a 2-pack that already has him. Meanwhile, the Console version gets two exclusive Trap Masters and probably two exclusive traps.

The only thing that would be worse is if you were a European 3DS-only gamer. smilie

It's been confirmed for the console versions that the Minis will be playable and have their own moves like their counterparts. Who knows if they'll be the same in the 3DS version, but it's likely.

It's been on the news for a while. They're full fledged S1s with changed animations and smaller hitboxes(though no confirmation if their attacks have the same reach as their canon counterparts) now. Apparently, during SSF and this game, they had training at the Skylanders Academy to fight along with their bigger friends from this dimension.

3DS games launch at $39.99.
Trap Team figures retail at $14.99 (or is it $15.99?).

If you value Barkley and the portal at $0, the game should be $55.

But, by that logic, the console should be:

Console games run $59.99 ($49.99 for Wii)
Trap Team figures $14.99
Regular Figures $9.99
Traps $5.99 (?) X 2
And portal assume $0 as well

Which is almost $97 ($87 for Wii), yet the Starter is $74.99, a $20+ discount. You expect a discount for a bundle.

Also, only top end first party 3DS RPG titles tend to run $39.99, most regular stuff is $34.99 or $29.99. So with a bundle discount I would think $49.99 should be the maximum price, maybe even as low as $39.99.

Any way you spin it, it is a ripoff at $64.99. No new/exclusive stuff and a ridiculous price for a game that is roughly equivalent to a decent smart phone game. At least tablets get the real game.

Most decent 3DS games launch at $35/40 - it's generally third-party licensed shlock that launches at $29.99 or less. Some 3DS titles even launch at $50.

Tablets get the same game I'm already going to own with zero exclusive figures... although it does get that spiffy controller, which should make all of us question the price of the Console bundles that don't come with the controller.

But, the awesome thing is - no one is "forced" to buy the 3DS version. Whereas previous versions have included an exclusive figure that some folks may feel compelled to buy, this one doesn't... so no one has to buy it to "complete" their collection. smilie

I'll be getting it, as I tend to have more fun with the 3DS games than I do the console titles - but that's more of a matter of convenience, as I can play my 3DS when on business trips and such, and don't generally bother packing up my Wii U when I go... not to mention, SWAP Force knocked it out of the park by allowing me to load all the characters in and not having to bring anything with me aside from the system and the game.

Ahem, Skylanders Trap Team is third party licensed shlock ... none of the portable Skylanders games can be even mentioned in the same breath as the $50 3DS titles, or even most of the $40 ones which is usually the first party stuff.

I'm glad that no one is "forced" to buy, even collectors. That's a good thing, the game needs to stand on its own merits and not dangle a "exclusive" figure just to move units.

I also had a decent time with the 3DS version, but in general it was kinda like one of those endless runner type games at times and had a decent fighting system for the very few enemies that popped up. The characters are really not balanced, some have abilities that are really only useful if you had a second player to "tank" them, but since everything just charges you it doesn't work out. And it performs fairly poorly, even one of the devs that posts here said the engine they use was a really poor fit for the game - the last two got really framey at times. Overall though, they were competent, I've played through all three to completion. They could use a good overhaul, but from the lack of effort in the portal and packaging this year, I don't see that in the cards anytime soon - in fact, without an exclusive it will likely sell even less, possibly causing them to drop it next year.

And I'm on the fence for the "load them all". It works well for portability, but it does knock some luster off the whole "figures to life" concept. Once you load them in, you really don't ever need the figure again for the game unless you want to pass levels between the console. I could loan my game to a friend and he would never need to touch a figure or portal, but still play every single character. I would have preferred you be able to load a small stable of figures - more than two that the first two games allowed, but way less than "all of them". Maybe 5 at a time, that way you need to swap them to meet element challenges, but still get some variety for on the go.
