o.O the Trap Master boxes look either hard to open or this kid is just really bad at opening boxes

Also "oh it's red, mostly they are orange"

facepalm
Well of course it is red, it isn't a Giants figure

"and it is a large one"
Never says Trap Master, not once

"130 in health I think"
I know the card isn't exact in game stats and just an estimate but that is luck, doesn't he see a clover?

"It is see through, you can kinda see through it"
Thanks Captain Obvious, we knew this day 1 when all we knew were a few figures

Cut the kid some slack, Windump, he isn't obligated to know everything about the game. I'm more worried about how he absolutely tore that awesome packaging apart... That's not as much as an unboxing as torture of plastic and cardboard.

These new box design looks yucky. Great you can see around the entire figure, but they also look difficult to open. Stacking these in a box looks difficult too. I guess I'll just be buying one to open.

Well, he is a kid and all, I do understand that, but... He indeed doesn't know how to open a Skylander package.

He should have ripped off the plastic where it connects to the cardboard, and also, he should have pushed the back of the plastic base, instead of trying to pull out the figure, risking to damage it.

NEVER pull out a figure if it doesn't come out on his own.

Unless it is a SWAP Force character. Then it is fun to do so. smilie

I have a hunch (and just that, I'm spit ballin here) that the reason for the new packaging is two fold. I can recall around Christmas time last year that some of the "bubble windows" were literally falling of their card board backing. I recall picking up a Leg. Storm Chicken and the second I touched it the entire package fell apart. I've seen several packages with the bubbles taped or stapled to the card board. Another reason that they are messier to open is that it makes it harder to return. I know a lot of retailers aren't happy about how easy it currently is to buy them, take them home, play with them (in or out of the package), then when you're bored return them for a full refund. It also kind of looks like it will be impossible to fit two "in the package" Trap Team Skylanders on the portal. So you're going to have to mangle the package if you want to play...or only play with one at a time.

For me, I really hate the package. I think it'll be weird for shipping those in a box they can't stack them like other boxes now. And yes it's cool that you can look the back of the figure, but I think it's really weird. :/

OK this is going to be conflicting for collectors, kids and just about everyone. Let's look at the benefits and downsides to this new packaging.

Pros
- First getting a full view of the figure is actually a great advantage. You get to inspect the entire figure for imperfections, paint errors, defects and other blemishes or problems on the figures.
- Get an idea of the size of the character and how much space they take up, so you will know how much space they will take up on the portal and in your collections.
- A nice, unique and interesting twist to the packaging.
- No more separating bubbles, damaged products, easy packaging wear and theft from figures.
- It will now be even easier to see which character is inside so you won't have to move every box just to see who it is and find the character you want to purchase.
- Boxes seem extremely durable so figures and variants can easily be kept in great condition and will protect figures from damage.
- They finally went back to just showing all the characters in the same element on the back rather than just showing random characters like on the Swap Force packaging in the beginning.
- Gives back that thrill of seeing other characters you want on the back and can help shoppers about certain characters they want that will now be shown on the backs again.
- Boxes also still show in-game images of the figure so you know what they will look like in game.

Cons
- Unfortunately these are really gonna take up space within boxes, assortments, shipping and even pegs and shelves. There's no telling how many they can stack up on just one peg and it will be tricky to have them stay on with the possibly added weight to the boxes and figures as well.
- These boxes do look tricky to open and can frustrate kids when opening them
- As already mentioned by some people, keeping in box will take up a lot of space in areas and the portal certainly won't be able to hold two Trap Masters at the same time.
- The boxes will fit well for some characters like Wallop and Wildfire, but guys like Lob Star, Blastermind and even Short Cut will look ridiculously empty inside the boxes and some might question the value of the product for what you are getting with size and mass of figures. Short Cut even with his scissors sadly look like he possibly could have just been a normal core character.
- Stores will probably have only very few up on shelves and asking for more in the back will be even harder now that these guys take up more space and will have to wait for shelf space before more can be put up.
- The boxes are missing that nice character are at the top and makes anyone wish the art could have stayed.
- The characters from one element are shown at the very bottom of the box and some will probably miss that.
- Packages will also take up more space in bags so buying multiples may mean even more shopping bags to carry them all.
- Boxes use even more plastic to keep figures in and are now even more harmful to the environment. (Sorry for being hippy with this thought)

This is just facts, theories and other possibilities and I just wanted to help others understand what these packages can do. I hope these do fine and no serious problems occur thanks to these packages.

Well, he probably doesn't care about what you think. It's not a rare figure because everyone's getting acess to it in Day One. Think about what you and Windup are saying - you're berating a little kid for not being as big as a fan as you are but getting lucky. Cut him some slack. You'll be doing the same silly unboxing videos later anyway, if you feel like you have to be mean to him, you're getting mad over nothing.

But back to the packaging subject, say what you will about stacking them together, but I've been reusing the plastic to carry them around(a small bag nowadays but it's kind of risky since it falls off tables easily)since SSA and this one will be quite the help in moving my small collection around to set up the portal :U

Folks need to step back from the edge re this kid getting the figure early. Kzone, an Aussie kids entertainment/comic company had a kids-only competition, where winners could go and play trap team and would receive a special gift. This is probably it.

I like the aesthetics of the new packaging and the ability to view the figure from all angles (especially being a guy that carefully selects my figures based on their sometimes questionable paint). But, the big thing here is the package is now a clam that seals on the side with the backing surrounding the seal - that will eliminate bubbles falling off. I think packaged collectors should like this (minus the storage issues), because it will help ensure you package stays sealed and pristine - I can imagine how frustrating it would be to have a rare figure and the bubble falls off or becomes loose. More difficult to open also means more difficult to be opened in the store by rough handling (or attempted theft).

I agree with all of this, but I summarized it just as well in my one liner above. -- Too big creates problems for storage and shelf space, box seems harder that the "one hand rip" we're all familiar with. I think even with these "big" trap masters the box looks too big. Scaling is off big time. Stylistically I think they went too simple on the design. The traptanium look of the plastic isn't conducive for the rigors of maximizing retailer shelf space.

The only remotely good thing about big packages I forgot to mention is that you can get more exciting poses without concern with figures not fitting in the package. There is however, quite a few who could have easily fit in a normal box though like Kaboom, Lob Star, Short Cut and Blastermind to name a few. I'm only assuming those guys won't take much space so don't quote me there and do see how problematic these packages will be with collectors, kids and even employees.

Shut Up! He might not be able to even read. The Skylander kids are obsessed fankids. This kid likes the game but its not the #1 thing in hia life. He probably is only allowed to have less than two hours of "screen time" a day, doesn't research the figures. He'll get there some day. Monster may be just his generic term for all bad guys. He's a little kid and they can't all be smart from the beginning. He'll learn. For now he's just a kid so stop getting all offended.

Choosing the take the figures out of the packages is their choice. As for me, I decided to keep them inside to preserve their paint job and whatnot.
