New 3DS LL left, New 3DS on right. Definitely coming to US and EU, just awaiting announcements.

[User Posted Image]

- better 3D
- second stick
- FOUR shoulder buttons
- NFC built-in
- coloured buttons
- more buttons
- better battery (up to 7h)
- now compatible with microSDCard
- you can back up data on your PC via wireless.
-browser improved, now works with HTML5
- CPU improved, makes browsing Miiverse / eShop much faster.
- can switch designs now (covers)

BECAUSE OF THE INCREASED CPU: PLEASE TAKE NOTE.

There are now exclusive games coming to the New 3DS and new 3DS LL. Xenoblade is getting a port, and is ONLY playable on the new 3DS and new 3DS LL because of the CPU upgrades and everything else. Expect more.

Holy crap, this is truly the best DS upgrade out there. Shocked with the new CPU upgrade as well, and even though it's a nub, a second STICK is on there. Thank God. And four shoulder buttons now!

What is your opinion on this? New 3DS with better CPU, better battery, covers, now compatible with microSD, four shoulder buttons, 2nd stick, and NFC built in so you can use Amiibo's whenever! Also, exclusive games ONLY playable on the new 3DS (dat CPU upgrade) such as Xenoblade port - meaning, Xenoblade for the new 3DS is NOT playable for 3DS or 3DS XL. ONLY FOR NEW 3DS (really hope the marketing for this is clear, sorry).

This is a wondeful

Yeah, I'm amazed at this. It fixes my two big issues with the 3DS (strict 3D sweet spot, and lack of C-Stick), and then adds a TON of upgrades I never knew I wanted or didn't think would happen until Nintendo completely moved to a new generation console.

I was going to buy the Limited Edition Smash Bros 3DS XL, but this has already been confirmed for Europe. Unfortunately, we're not getting these until 2015. So I may just buy Smash Bros 3DS physically and use it with my original 3DS, and then get the Smash Bros version of the 3DS XL Mk.II (I'm calling it that to save confusion in conversations) when it comes (they showed one off), and then sell my physical copy. Alternatively, I will keep that physical copy and buy the Rosalina cover plate that comes with a theme of her for the 3DS menu (they briefly showed it).

Absolutely could not agree more. I'm a big guy with big hands, I need the XL. The OG 3DS was incredibly painful to hold. All these upgrades are also unexpected and amazing! I was legit surprised. Best ND in a while.

Hope that the XL comes in metallic red or green, otherwise I would buy black. Really don't like the blue. Although, I do like the SNES buttons on the new 3DS og.

For me, it's not so much the size being uncomfortable on the original. Despite my big hands, I can comfortably play the original 3DS.

However, I wanted a bigger screen for Smash Bros, and the Smash Bros XL looked like the perfect time to upgrade. However, with this being announced, I'll have to wait. That C-Stick and the ZL and ZR buttons will become invaluable for Smash. Not to mention all the other awesome features and the CPU upgrade.

The extra circle pad acts like a "C stick" o.o well I know what I am getting
(being small makes it slightly easier to flick for smash attacks in Brawl)
Curious on what the new games will be

Multiple are in development apparently. They released a trailer for Xenoblade for the new 3DS earlier.

Right?

My dream "next DS" includes:

HUGE increase in screen resolution
Ditch the 3D (costs too much and battery consumption)
Better battery (although this new one is 7 hours - which is great)
Cross accounts with Console and portables
Good software line up
third parties like the OG DS had (ha yeah right on this one)

The original 3DS actually has all of these things already. The former happened with an update this year.

not really, no. not in the sense of PSN or XBL.
software is good, but not as great as the DS.
third party support isnt as good as DS, and OG 3DS has a huge drought of no games

It's not far off. Really the only thing they need is mergeable friends lists and it's the exact same.

I think the software is way better than the DS. DS was great, but had a lot of shovelware. The 3DS has a lot of console level titles in terms of content and game mechanics too, while a lot of DS titles felt like they could have been done on the GBA, especially with third parties.

They're planning to release a peripheral for the older 3DS versions to allow amiibo compatibility:

[User Posted Image]

Also, these models won't be released in the US/Europe before 2015.

I'm definitely looking forward to buying a New 3DS XL! It seems like a great update, even if it's not as big as the jump from the DS Lite to the DSi. I'm glad they didn't go for a full-size second circle pad, as it still won't be used for most games, and the small one is more than enough for its purposes.

...Also, I'm looking forward to having one more 3DS for StreetPass purposes. :)

I certainly think the new 3ds is a great idea, but this is the absolute wrong time to do this now. Nintendo has a struggling home console that they need to focus on, and a new 3ds model isn't going to help it whatsoever.

Eh, I'm happy with the 3DS I have now. Not too fond of games being only for the newer one.

If a game comes out only for it that I like, I might end up getting one (on sale if possible). But I'd still keep my current 3DS for Pokemon reasons.

I haven't got a Wii U yet, so I might buy this instead. I think it'll be Nintendo's next main handheld (like the original DS was), and not an upgraded version of the last console (like the DSi XL) because of the exclusive games.

Should I buy a Wii U or wait for this?

The DSi has tons (several hundred, I believe) exclusive games that can't be played on a DS or a DS Lite, you know. The jump from the 3DS to the New 3DS is in almost every way comparable to the GameBoy -> GameBoy Color and DS -> DSi upgrades. :)

Quote:

If you already have a 3DS, I'd definitely say you should go for a Wii U. I'm fairly certain they already said that most future titles will still be playable on the regular 3DS/3DS XL (though some of them will run better on the New 3DS models, obviously), so unless you REALLY want to play a downgraded version of Xenoblade Chronicles...

Though if you don't have a 3DS either, you should do some research on which games from each console you want the most and which console would give you the most value for its price.

...Personally, I'd still go for a Wii U. But I'm a bit biased - it's my favourite console of all time!

As excited as I am for this, it just seems...too soon. Honestly feel they should focus on the Wii U more before announcing this. :/

Well, that, and justifying this to my dad (especially since my mom will also want one) will be next to impossible. But that's not Nintendo's problem.

I really love the look of this thing, holy crud. But I'm not sure I'll be getting one at launch (whenever that is).

The regular one is 16,000 Yen which is about $153 in America, and the XL is 18,000 yen which is $172, so I guess they'll be around the normal price of these now.

It's a battery life/processing power issue. I believe making a C-stick that size would inhibit the New 3DS's hardware. >.>

Admittedly, I'm a little disappointed with this, on account of buying a Yoshi 3DS XL earlier this year. I don't see myself trading up to this new one at the moment. And what is Nintendo's obsession with adding New into the title of stuff? New Super Mario Bros., Yoshi's New Island... what's next, an updated Wii U named the Wii NU? XP

They added another VRAM (?) of 4MB.

no info about the new beefed up cpu yet.... it will be interesting to see how much smoother it will run the software and the 3ds os. the hackers will be able to get their hands on the japanese new 3ds 11 october this year.

Faster download speed and more demanding games can be run on it, hence some games like the Xenoblade Chronicles port only being run on it.

It seems like it could get Wii level graphics, now.

That seems extremely unlikely. Especially because GameFreak make those decisions, not Nintendo (see: the 5th Gen DS games).
I can see it being New 3DS-enhanced, though, with a more stable framerate on the New 3DS models. Hopefully.
