i was thinking about it.

the characters seem to be really goofy and silly. the gameplay style is the same as swap force, but with the villains. the cutscenes of annoyance will be back, and overall this game feels.... for little kids.

i just feel like... i'm outgrowing the franchise. after swapforce, the parents must have complained about the characters being to violent for their 4-10 year old kids.. pathetic. and these new guys (i'm looking at you, broccoli guy) are stupid.

but the world is blinded by skylanders. it's been around since 2011, and we've gotten so much merchandise it hurts.

that's my opinion. i can have and express one.

I can understand what you mean, but the innovations every game always suck me back in! The inner 7 year old me craves more of these little guys!

Infinity and Skylanders have their own merits, but I found Skylanders more fun ONLY because Disney Infinity (ironically) was too limited in options for me. The building was too tedious and I cannot play 3 players with my sisters and that's when Infinity would get fun.

Luckily, it seems that Infinity 2.0 is ironing out all my issues with the first game (except local 3 player). I'll complete the collection for Infinity and Trap Team and see who won this year. Either way, if Infinity or Skylanders wins, I dunno if I'll give up on the franchise anytime soon. I've invested so much time and money into my past characters that I just cannot let them go, at least not yet.

That too. I just think that they need to make more of their levels like the Lost City Of Arkus from Giants; very little talking, and lots of continuous fighting.

I liked SSA and Giants but Swap Force just felt repetitive to me. There was too many ****ing mini-games which makes the level 10 minutes longer and characters being introduced to be thrown out. (TO be fair this happened in SSA too) Cutscenes are unskipable and nightmare mode is bad. Why do the mini-games do so much damage to you? Also why do they keep telling you an introduction whenever you start story mode? It takes 30 ****ing seconds and is unskipable and if you do then it's just gonna focus on something with no audio playing behind. I know what the **** these people do but I don't do them! Swap Zones are also annoying. Early level SKylanders have too much trouble in swap zones and swapping is used just to go inside elemental gates which mostly consent of duel gates now forcing you to buy more toys or controllers! The part I like best about the game was the portal. It's slim and sleek while the first portal was clunky and fat.

The only NPC in Skylanders who pisses me off is Rufus. He literally is the worst thing in Swap Force for me. I loathe going back to Woodburrow or booting up the game because he always stops me and notifies me of the painfully freaking obvious for hundreds of times.

He can die in a hole.

I ****ing despise the dialogue in Swap Force.

They waste like two minutes telling you something that you either already know or could easily figure out. Not only that, but they talk as slow as possible. All of the NPC's are stale and bland so I don't even care what their saying. I know the game was meant for younger audiences, but almost all of the dialogue seems to be aimed at 5 year old who don't know what they're doing. The unskippable boring dialogue almost drove me insane and ruined the whole game for me.

i've only played SSA and Giants on Wii (won't bother spending any more money on any games after Giants) but iirc, i couldn't figure out how to skip the dialogue and cutscenes and so the games were real time consuming. they're fun games though because of the variety of characters.

as for the merchandise, i swear, everything i look at in Walmart has a Skylanders version/design of it too. it bothers me how it's always the same official game artwork. i understand that designing more artwork like that could be time consuming, but still

Finally, a good topic I can relate to!

....

Listen, even though I've never played any games in the series, the thing is, I think people just like its charm. It's quirky, but friendly and favorable at the same time. That's what bothers me about it, sometimes. Activision has perfected a formula that sends kids a message, asking them to buy their things, because those things become your "friends." Look, even though they have personalities, those things are just things for playing your things. I mean, YES, I know that the purple dragons are just "things" too, but whereas the dragons tried to freshen up with each new adventure (or misadventure), the things seem to not care about changing. I'm not saying that you shouldn't get those things, I'm saying that, somehow, Activision is forcing the things' charm to diminish all too quickly. Sometimes, greatness shouldn't be rushed, and at earlier times, the things were probably already so great that they didn't need freshness. Seriously, materials are one thing, but just plain coats are another.

Okay, maybe I'm just confusing all of you. I'm just trying to say that the series didn't feel right right from the beginning. That's why I don't play the series.

Moved to Spyro and Skylanders General from Stuff and Nonsense. Feel free to tell me if I made a wrong choice in this, but as far as I can see, this thread has been more or less purely full of discussion about the series, and rather detailed discussion at that, not a lot of silliness that would keep it in S&N. Sorry for any inconvenience!

I wasn't too in for the games proper (the gameplay is definitely geared for a younger audience, which is just fine), but I still like Skylanders for a lot of reasons. It's fun, the characters are entertaining, but really I liked the bright and colorful levels and pretty music the most.

I stopped playing in large part due to Marketing Wizard Gandalf...I mean Eon. His constant talking about Skylanders you need for certain areas really felt underhanded and kind of scuzzy.

I can relate, since I used to hate Skylanders too. Then I seriously took a look at it and separated myself from my Activision hate. And here's the basic reason why so many people like it: it's fun. Good ole' simple fun. Don't wanna spend a large amount of money on the figurines? Don't have to! Want to buy any and all in sight? Sure, you can! Like platforming and killing monsters? Go for it! There are no hard goals or puzzles. It's not full of complicated controls and buttons to memorize. Everyone can enjoy it in some way. At least, potentially everyone can enjoy it. It is kiddy and goofy looking, because it is primarily aimed for kids. That's the target audience, but older people can enjoy it too because it's just a blast to play.

Do keep in mind, I've only played Swap Force, so take my opinion as you will.

Yeah, let's repeat the same thread from Trap Team to here in a different name.
I said it a thousand times, it's expensive but it's a different kind of fun I haven't had in a long while with other games. It's like in one of the recent videos from a dev - he says that even if the debug version gives him every Skylander free of charge, it's something else entirely when he has to use the right figure.

But seriously it's literally the same post as Trap Team. Go complain about Brocoli Guy there where people will prove you wrong instead of running to a place where the majority doesn't even follow news of that series.

Who said you have to stop playing "Goofy" looking games at a certain age? That's why I like Skylanders. It brings back the "kid" in me. I like it because of all the crazy ideas these developers can come up with for each new game, and how they're not afraid to experiment with new ideas (except for online play). While I sometimes ponder why I'm still in, and how much money I've spent on these, I then remember that it's my interest, and nobody can change that or take it away from me; not even my dad, who despises the series smilie. Collecting Skylanders motivates me and makes me feel like I've done something productive and great each time I find a rare one, because a lot of times in my life it's been hard for me to feel that way, especially with recent events. The thrill of hunting down a figure for so long and finally getting one of the last few from the store is half the fun for me. Even if all it is is just beating up a bunch of trolls and spending money, it's awesome, minus the fact that Spyro looks absolutely hideous now. Besides the minor annoyance that is Spyro's redesign, there IS one thing I hate about the franchise more than anything: RUFUS.

I am probably dating myself but as a young person there were 3 activities that I got a great deal of fun out of: playing D&D- creating characters and adventuring, reading comic books -seeing the characters coming to life through the art, and collecting Star Wars figures and vehicles to build my imagination. Seems Sklanders does all 3 for me. I also get to play with my kids and that can never be a bad thing.

For young people, Skylanders Trap Team is a video game that Activision has the merit of offering a way to play very original.
