Well that all depends on how much money there is to spend when I buy it.
But I may get only The Kaos trap on release, find out which elemental traps are needed for the first few levels, and buy those traps along with the Wii Starter pack and some Skylanders.

Although I've decided that I'm definitely buying the game, I still haven't decided if I'm getting it on release day. Depends how much money I'll have nearer the time. I'm not sure whether to get the PS3 version or the Wii U version.

I sometimes worry that the Skylanders I want will run out before I get a chance to buy them (especially if they're the popular ones), so I'm gonna buy any Skylanders that I want in wave 1 even if I don't get the game on release day.

This year for financial reasons (and with Smash coming out shortly before) I've decided to skip Trap Team entirely on launch. It makes sense to me to save up some more money and get it cheaper on Black Friday, or even later in the year for another promotion.

Likely, if there are any Day 1 Special releases (which as of right now, there doesn't appear to be) then I may pick up those, but otherwise I'll just sit and wait. I might grab the Kaos trap though just so I have that when I first start (and to start making some sort of holder thing for my traps)

Brawl and Chain at Target would be the only thing that I'd maybe consider but that's highly unlikely right now unless I got a ton of money lol.

I'll be keeping an eye on the forums and stuff to see what sort of figures appear to be selling off fast and if I want them or not. To be honest, there's not much in the way of cores that excite me so with the exception of a few I'll likely skip over them. Same with the Series 2/3/4 characters. Spry would be the only Mini I'll probably try to get as soon as possible because of Spyro obviously.

Eon's Elite I'm hoping wont be launch figures but I really want that Spyro one. I'm hoping the prices are reasonable on them.

Since my little one's birthday and Christmas fall well after the release date: The plan is to wait for a sale on Dark Starter edition. I probably will just jump on the first one I see. Nothing has come up for pre-order bonus on that one, so I guess we'll find out when that is. Maybe Black Friday...

As for figures, depends on the deals. I'm getting a bit vet on this stuff cuz I remember how long wave 1 chilled on the shelves (all the way through Christmas)...so I might jump on Wave 2 just to make sure I've got those...but wave 1 I'll wait for the deal. Wouldn't mind if Toys R Us did another promo for a free figure like metallic green gill grunt last year based on money spent. I missed out on that one.

That's my point, I won't be buying anything additional Day 1. I'll buy it when I can get a hold of everything to complete the game 100%. Which will probably end up being November/December.

Nitro Krypt King is a special day 1 release, also EE Spyro isn't wave one (it comes out in November not October)

PS3 Dark Edition and I'm hoping to get either a pack with Blades or at least one new Core, hoping for Chopper or Funny Bone.

On day one I'll be getting the Dark Edition Starter for Wii U (pre-ordered at Best Buy), all the traps I can get, and at least one other Trap Master and one other Core. I pre-ordered my Gearshift on Amazon.com, so I'll get her a few days later.

I've pre-ordered PS3 Dark Edition Starter, Gear Shift, Nitro Krypt King, Legendary Jaw Breaker and the Legendary Nightmare Express Pack. I will probably go to the stores and see what other new figures/traps are available and pick those up too.(As long as I do not have that character already-No reposes or mutliple versions of same character)

I'm in the UK, so I've preordered:
