For me: Pokémon Black/White > Pokémon Black 2/White 2
This one is only just, but the first had a much better main story imo, and I honestly didn't care about the new postgame features like Medals in 2 (aside from PWT, but even that I hardly played).
Popularly agreed upon, but I think Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure is better than Giants. Significantly better storytelling made the toys to life gimmick feel more magical, and the first game had more levels too. They were shorter, but you had more options for what levels to replay with new Skylanders, which I prefer to Giants' really long levels.
And I only enjoyed playing a couple of the Giants levels over and over, whereas I wanted to replay more of the SA levels more often. (It doesn't help that so many Giants levels have largevehicle/puzzle sections that make them a slog to replay-the only level that doesn't have puzzles, persay, is The Oracle. SA had a few and unskippable cutscenes, but also had more exploration and fighting.)
Spyro's Adventure was also better than Giants on the 3DS. Giants had a lot of boring game design and was a technical mess, with visible lag in several sections/levels, semi-minor-but-common glitches and game crashes. Spyro's Adventure was short and underwhelming in certain aspects, but had very good moveset, level and environment design, a more interesting story, more levels, few technical issues, etc.

Forgot: I personally prefer The Eternal Night to Dawn of The Dragon, main reason being it's more nostalgic to me.
Though, TEN's cheap difficulty can sod off... Dawn had a lot of issues, but I don't think any are as problematic as how Spyro is knocked back in TEN, which just makes the game frustrating if you don't already know what's coming up and makes it so that getting hit once, you could be knocked off a cliff or ganged up on and die. I don't mind difficulty, but in TEN you aren't given enough chances to recover and the knockback leaves you helpless for too long.* I think Dawn's somewhat more balanced in terms of gameplay- neither are great, but TEN is infuriating at several points and while Dawn has the tiring Burned Lands, the rest of the game usually isn't as annoying as many parts in TEN. (And even Burned Lands, I'd take over several of the segments in TEN.) * Maybe if Sparx tried to stop enemies from attacking you along with a shorter stun time, it'd be more fair. He'd feel like a better sidekick, since he'd actually be doing something, and I actually think that could make a decent mechanic- there could be enemies that did a lot of damage which Sparx could stop after they used their attack and hit you, and ones which did less damage but could stun you with some of their attacks and which Sparx couldn't stop to negate that. You still wouldn't want to get hit by the former, but they would be less unfair than they were in TEN, while with the latter you could avoid attacks that you knew would stun and wear them down. Something like that.

@Arc: If you know me, then you know I very much prefer TEN and ANB to DotD. Yes, TEN has some cheap and artificial difficulty, but I realized that at least half the deaths I have playing that game are because the situation requires you to play the game cautiously instead of going in guns blazing like in ANB. Of course, when you have Dark Spyro, it's not as big of an issue. That doesn't excuse Arborick though. It's the most BS part of the game. XP

@ HIR Forgot about ANB, but I also enjoy that more than TEN. It's ridiculously easy, but I thought it was more satisfying to play because the breaths feel stronger.
And Arborick was one of the easiest parts of the game in my last playthrough. I remember being stuck on him for about a week when I first played it, but that was nothing compared to Fellmuth, which had the horrible Blundertails (the worst enemies on the Wii version, because you control melee with the Wiimote, and that's horrible against an enemy that you need to hit with a specific kind of melee attack when they guard). I still think Fellmuth had some bad, cheap segments, even playing on the much better PS2 version years later. Also, Mario Kart DS > Mario Kart Wii. No tricks in the DS version feels weird, and the drift system was bad because it's either really slow to charge up or eats your thumb- both of those noticeably affect the core mechanics- but Mario Kart DS has Mission Mode and you didn't need to play on teams in battle mode. Then again, Wii has mods, so eh. :/ If Wii is non-modded, DS is better, imo. I think 7 is the best Mario Kart game, because it had the best character balance. Haven't played 8. Seems like it has better single player, but sounds like for online, the balance is skewed in favour of heavyweights way too much. I was looking forward to maining Lakitu again, but I just never got around to playing 8, and what I've heard about the lightweight characters for online is a huge disappointment. I haven't even opened my Blue Shell Bundle because of it. I liked 7 a lot when I first got it, but put it down after about a month of on-and-off casual play. Recently started playing it again, looked up good combos, tried a few online and fell in love with the Lakitu set I use. I've seen plenty of both heavyweight and lightweight players winning (though slightly more lightweights), and I'm loving that. I need to keep at max speed and take seriously sharp turns so heavyweights with better speed don't overtake me, but other lightweights (who might have a speedier build) can do the same and beat me. I know I can stay back then catch up to the first-place player if they get hit by a Blue, but I find it's more fun to try and frontline a race, and that if I can get really far ahead being hit by Blue hardly matters or I still get in a good position anyway. (Besides, I still do that in some races.) I'm also glad that I can switch from my Lakitu build to a heavier one and still remain competitive. It's nice if I wanna switch things up, which I do once in a while so the game doesn't get boring too fast. I never realised how much I could enjoy playing Mario Kart more competitively until I tried these combos. If 8 online is just heavies everywhere, because they're by far most viable, I don't think I could enjoy it. It feels stale if I basically have to play/can safely expect to see so many similar things in every online match.

I prefer The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion over The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. All of Oblivion's questlines for the main quest, Thieves Guild, The Dark Brotherhood, Fighters and Mages Guild and the miscellaneous ones are far more interesting and well written when compared to Skyrim's. The Companions in Skyrim are just a bunch of werewolf brutes that go out of their way to kill werewolf hunters instead of defending those in real need as their apparent policy states. The Fighters Guild in Oblivion involves the rivalry between the Fighters Guild and the Blackwood Company who have no moral qualms with using the hallucinogenic hist sap that gives them superior strength but causes them to see innocent people as targets for their fuelled slaughter. You find out about this by drinking the sap yourself and killing those who previously placed their complete trust in you. In Skyrim all you do is kill werewolf slayers who haven't even provoked you doing it all for the "good" of your own kind. Unlike Oblivion, Skyrim's quests make me feel like a complete asshole. In a game where you're supposed to be the legendary prophesied Dragonborn hero, it sure doesn't make me feel like that.

Luigi's Mansion over Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
Sadly, Dark Moon just seemed to drop the ball. It had all this hype for the multiple mansions, but as a result of 5 mansions, sacrificed so much. The story being mission-based results in the mansions not being fully explorable at any given point. You can't freely roam through a mansion to see all it has to offer and the overall architectural beauty and uniqueness of each mansion. Sure, there's a few side rooms you can detour to from the main path of the mission to pick up some random money or other loot, but in the end each mission is rather linear in progression. Moving from start to some sense of a goal where you capture a ghost to complete the mission. On top of that, the ghosts are sadly generic in comparison to the ones from the first game. While some of the random ghosts may have been a bit generic, the bosses were incredibly detailed. Dark Moon makes every ghost, even the few that could be considered bosses, feel like the same generic blob coming in a different size and color. All predecessors over Kingdom Hearts: Coded While Chain of Memories get's hate for its card based battle mechanic, Coded is possibly the worst in my eyes. After Chain of Memories, it'd ended up the 3rd game to feature a play-through of the first game's story line with it's own story twists. While it had less worlds than the original, the whole idea of going through the same story for said worlds made things somewhat repetitive. The game was used mostly as filler to provide the question that arose at the end of Kingdom Hearts 2 as to what was the contents of Mickey's letter to Sora. Coded building up the point of exactly why Mickey was writing this letter as well as providing a small foreshadowing towards KH3 in hinting in Sora's need to save certain characters. However this idea was already noted in Birth By Sleep's secret ending and only further emphasized it with a small amount of new information saying how DiZ left hidden data in Sora. In the end, the game's story seemed old and overall fillery with only 2 or 3 cutscenes providing new information to contribute to the overall story. While these cutscenes are important and the game somewhat needed, one could easily watch all the cutscenes or read a plot summary of the game to understand all they need. Thankfully, KH 2.5 HD Remix only has the cutscenes in HD format, making things easier. Kingdom Hearts over Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories As addressed in the paragraph about Coded, CoM involves going through the same story of the first game but with a new twist. Considering this is the second game, this is a bit repetitive and annoying, though not as noticeably so as Coded what with the entire layout being rearranged to fit into the labyrinth that is Castle Oblivion. The card-based battle system, while making sense for the story, was complicated and felt like a huge crutch that just held you back and got you killed more often. Overall the story was decent and introduced us to the Organization which ended up incredibly important. Most of the hate for the game by all fans comes from the battle system. While the game isn't bad, it still ended up worse than the previous one.

Pokemon Black/White
I'm gonna be real here. I didn't think there was gonna be a sequel to Pokemon B/W. And when they did, they just lost my touch quite a bit with the whole Kyreum fusion stuff. I mean yes in the lore it said Reshiram and Zekrom were once 1 dragon. It said nothing about Kyreum though. So that's a major loss in my interest at first glance there. Even though I have yet to beat the game (I have a terrible team when against the elite 4), but at least I like the idea of time and such, just not the Kyreum part of it. Okami Again I did not think there was gonna be a sequel for this game either. But I have played and beaten Okami a few times. And I still have yet to finish Okami-Den (shut up I'm having trouble), but I have managed to pick up the mechanics for the game. But let me just compare Ammy and her son Chibi (I'm calling Chibi for now. Somewhat forgot his name e.e) Ammy
Chibi
I mean I understand that Chibi is just a wolf pup and all, but those did put more restrictions than Nostalgia. Oh and the gameplay is slightly different. Like at the constellations, you draw the outline of the constellations (Den) instead of putting a dot for the missing star (Okami). Oh and there's a partner system in Okami-Den making the game a little bit more challenging, which is good, but also kind of a drag at the same time for me. Oh and one of those partners in Okami-Den happens to be the son of Susano, and the game takes place 9 months after Okami in storyline. So how the kid is born and ready to fight is a big stretch in plot holes there. Also in Okami-Den one of the warrior dog's tail, isn't really, oh how to put it, accurate from the last game. See Ume's tail is supposed to be curled (because he's a Shiba Inu and all), and it's not on Okami-Den for some reason. Oh and did I mention the ridiculous amount of portals in Okami-Den? I mean sure it's reasonable because DS graphic reasons, but I'm sure there was a way to drop at least some of them. Okami had way less than 13 freaking portals in the field level than that of Okami-den.

I haven't finished either game yet, but from what I've played, I prefer bioshock over bioshock 2. Bioshock 2 just seems to be almost the same game but you have a driller arm instead of a wrench. Playing as a big daddy is awesome, but its not as exiting or atmospheric as the first one when you play as a human, since its just not as suspenseful.

Left 4 Dead over Left 4 Dead 2.
Sure, L4D2 had much better graphics (not that I would know, censorship in Australia and everything), and that it had all the original campaigns and characters ported anyway, but I just think that the setting, the SI designs, the campaigns and the characters were a lot better in the original. The addition of melee weapons broke the game a bit, imo, since on everything not-expert difficulty you could just cut your way to victory, killing everything but the Charger, the Witch, and the Tank in one hit.

I echo this to a degree. I like both Galaxy games just as much, but I think they both excel at opposing areas. Galaxy 1 remains the only main series Mario title to actually make me care for some characters (Rosalina, the Lumas, Luigi, and the Toad Brigade to be specific), and to have some actually interesting story focus and Rosalina's Storybook is a masterpiece and pure art to me. It also has a much more epic and grander soundtrack for the most part, and the sense of poignant atmosphere it had at some parts was very different for Mario. The Comet Observatory also remains my favourite place in the Mario universe, it has such an amazing design and atmosphere (I like Starship Mario too but only really for the happy music). And it's the debut game of my absolute favourite Nintendo character and female character, Rosalina, and while Toads are goofy and funny, I prefer the Lumas in general since they feel like they have more genuine purpose in the Mario universe than the Toads ever have, and just don't feel as one note as NPC characters in a game. However, when it comes to level design and general mechanics, Galaxy 2 was much more enjoyable to me. Galaxy 1 had the problem of being too easy, which was the result of the game using a lot of mechanics over and over, so I always knew how to handle a situation most of the time, and I felt that got repetitive. And the Luigi playthrough was a pathetic way to pad out the game in the first Galaxy, and I like how Galaxy 2 lets you unlock Luigi much sooner and has a much better post-game experience (searching for the Green Stars was a refreshing change of pace and encouraged you to really explore each Galaxy inside out, and the Grandmaster Galaxy is a great final challenge and I liked that I finally get to see a bit more of Rosalina at the end of it all, even if it wasn't much). And while Galaxy 1 had an epic soundtrack, Galaxy 2's soundtrack was more fitting to Mario and had some really catchy tracks (but still had some epic tracks while also having that lovely arrangement of the track "Luma", from Galaxy 1, in Galaxy 2's 120 Star Ending). Basically, Galaxy 2 excelled at elements I already love Mario games in general for and is only really contested by Super Mario World and Super Mario 3D World in that regard, but Galaxy 1 deserves my love for being very different as a Mario game, in a lot of ways, to the point where I kinda wish it wasn't a Mario game and didn't have Miyamoto holding it back, and could start it's own series. Since I consider Rosalina the main character of Galaxy 1 (yeah you play as Mario but his role in the story is minimal and replaceable, which you can actually do via Luigi, and the usual "Mario saves Peach from Bowser" plot is very overshadowed by the various Rosalina-centric story elements that take up 90% of the cutscenes and dialogue in the game, and that's not just talking about the Storybook), I'd love if Nintendo just gave her a new series to continue on the things established in the Galaxy games and keep that train rolling, and let Mario keep trying innovate in the "pure gameplay and fun" front by maybe expanding on what was done in 3D World with having multiple playable characters and co-op and such things, but making the levels more open and exploration focused and more detailed in presentation.
