Perverted and in bad taste yeah but I don't see ignorance.
ignorant - acking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated
so yes i see ignorance because he's uneducated about the fact that cat calling is not okay and is not a compliment, and can even be seen as a form of objectification. it's also pretty offensive and if you think that whistling or cat calling is okay then you need a big reality check.

Ignorant implies a lack of knowledge. Thing is, I'm sure he had knowledge about this stuff and is also aware of what it is and what it can do (which is also why he may have done it as a joke). He didn't not know about what it can do. He did it and was fully aware of what he was doing.
I'm not going to say that it was ok or a suitable compliment because it isn't generally ok; though some people may like it for their own reasons. It was a bad joke that wasn't in good taste and there are better ways to tell someone "hey you're pretty". But to call them ignorant just isn't the proper use of the term.
And IMO saying that they should feel disgusted with themselves also goes a bit far since all they did was whistle as a joke.

you have your opinion and i have mine. i believe that it was a proper use of the term and that's that.
i think it's completely unacceptable even as a joke.

Opinions are opinions and it's fine to have them, but when discussing the literal definition of a word, opinions don't really define it. Perspectives are interesting but shouldn't be the end all be all.
I think it was a poor joke but at the same time not something for them to feel quite disgusted over (yet).
This can be an interesting and civil conversation. If you wish to continue it, my GB or PMs can be the place.

I understand. I also understand the definition of ignorance. I think you should probably stop trying to educate people on things that they don't need educating on. Thanks.
I do think that he should feel disgusted. Would you whistle as a joke to a woman on the street or in real life? I don't think so.
I'm not interested in continuing this conversation.

I'm not educating anybody. I'm trying to have a discussion.
No, I wouldn't. Would he IRL and be serious about it? I also wouldn't randomly call a woman pretty or beautiful on the street.
And never in this conversation have I attempted to defend what he did or say that it was ok. It's not ok.
That is unfortunate.

I don't consider *whistle whistle* *exit* objectifying in the slightest. On a forum, no less. Too open to interpretation. If you feel that's objectifying, it's you having the dirty/paranoid mind.
As long as it's something that can be seen in kids shows and is not screaming "I JUST WANNA **** YOU, YOU INSIGNIFICANT SEX OBJECT", then I think getting antsy about something like this is just being prude. Especially when you make the conscious decision to post an image of yourself, and then decide to interpret a potentially innocent compliment (which it was, in this case) as disgusting. If it's INHERENTLY disgusting, then yes, take offense, since people shouldn't say inherently disgusting things regardless of you willingly posting images of yourself.
But in this case, if you take offense to a potentially innocent compliment, then you shouldn't get all high and mighty and say they should be disgusted by themselves. Just ignore the comment. Move on. It's a case of "it's only harmful if you let it be".
Just my two cents. I personally wouldn't express attraction like that (though I can't whistle and may be demisexual anyway, so...), but I don't think it's inherently in bad taste. Depends on what comes after the whistle, and exiting seems harmless to me.
^As a public forum this is sorta open to anybody at this point.
I gave you an invitation to take it private. If you don't want to continue it there (or at all) that's fine, but people are free to post what they think here.
