Well that situation is the same to me too. I was pretty active in my first year and a half here but then I stopped posting and did not visit that actively so I have lots of catching up to do to in terms of gems when compared to the other people from my “dS generation”. Practically all the other new users from my time are close to Platinum Sparx or are Platinum Sparx members and I’m borderline Emerald. But as I have said many times before here in dS that only thing that matters is the value of one’s own contributions, not the Sparx rank.

Anyway, Project_Unnamed is right. It really doesn't matter what Sparx rank you are, it's your dedication to the site that makes you who you are. A Platinum Sparx and A Red Sparx can be exactly the same, so time on the site really means nothing to who you are.

Sorry, but I think you should take one thing into account here.

A user with the Platinum Sparx rank has been here for 6+ years. That's not exactly the same as a new user who just joined the site, and it also speaks volumes about his/her "dedication" to the site. Your experiences and actions mean everything when it comes to who you are, and the amount of time you spend on something is directly porpotional to the amount of experience you have.

I'd also like to point out, that I don't think older users are "better" because they are older users, but the fact that they are older users often means that they posess favorable traits associated with getting along with people well.
This doesn't mean that a new user couldn't do the same, but I don't assume that of them based on their background as I don't know anything about them.
