Pinocchio had quite a few dark and disturbing elements in it, mostly those boys being donkeys (Lamplick turned into one. Pinocchio almost did as well, but didn't because Jiminy rescued him and took him to search for his father, only to be swallowed by Monstro... however, it turned out that Gepetto got swallowed too while he was out looking for Pinocchio, and the two were reunited inside the whale)

That and the fact that the movie had smoking in it as well.

But then again, most retro cartoons, TV shows, and movies have drug references in addition to other dark stuff in them.

Oh that's nothing, in the original book? We have a serpent attempting to eat Pinocchio but dying from laughing too hard and splitting a blood vessel, and close to the end Pinocchio finds Lamplick's corpse, and not to mention the cat and fox tried to stab him and did hang him. And Pinoke himself killed Jiminy Cricket on their first encounter.

Apparently Kh: Days was going to include Pinocchio and would've been one of the most depressing points in the game (which, you know, ends with a girl committing suicide and the boy she died for not even remembering her) O.o
