Problem I have with How To Train Your Dragon 2 (MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!!) [CLOSED]

Okay, if you haven't seen the movie, don't even bother reading this. And if you post spoilers in response to this, please put them in a spoiler for the people who don't listen to the title.

I really enjoyed this movie and I thought it was great but there's one thing that I really didn't like. I wish that Stoick didn't die in this movie. He was reunited with his wife after like twenty years and finally had a complete family again, and then he's killed off like ten minutes later. But what really really bothered me was the fact that Toothless killed him. I know he was under the Alpha's mind control, but I was just kinda uneasy about the whole thing. I would of taken Stoick's death better if he was killed by Drago or the Alpha, but having Toothless do it, for me, was just too much.

It's nothing like the book, unfortunately. But that was the last straw.

The story, some of the more interesting characters changed quite a bit (read: Alvin the Treacherous). I also feel like movies should be more faithful to the series' canon but HTTYD 1 & 2 were punches in the face of the books. Little remained similar to the books except the characters. Even then, as previously mentioned, some roles have changed as well as appearances.

I see what you mean. The main reason I like the films better is because I like movie Toothless a lot better than book Toothless. I also wish Alvin the Treacherous and Camicazi would make an appearance, but How to Train Your Dragon is one of my all time favorite movies, and I prefer it over the book. I don't know, I've read the book only once while I've seen the movie dozens of times, but I think I should read it again.

They'd just butcher Camacazi I think. If Astrid wasn't in, she would probably be the love interest.

As for Toothless, here's my basic ideas:
Design: Movie > Books
Personality: Books >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Movie

Toothless felt like another character in the books, felt like a pet in the movie.

I love book Toothless.
And Snotlout and Hiccup are just like, magically friends? Not in the book, no. And I agree. They'd ruin Camacazi.

I read the first book once and didn't like it, but it was a couple of years ago, so maybe I should just read it again.

I actually liked Toothless killing Stoic and find heroes killing other heroes much more interesting than villains killing them. The villains are generally already remorseless and I find it more interesting to see the hero accept what they did and still settle back in. IDK kind of a sucker for good guys killing good guys smilie

I am seriously a HUGE HTTYD freak, but I didn't really like the books. Idk why. I just didn't. I think the movies are much better. Also, with the thing the topic creator mentioned, they probably did that for something in the 3rd movie
