Capcom's Up For Grabs [CLOSED]

Here's the scoops.

This could be a big deal for any one of the console manufacturers. Nintendo could do good with Phoenix Right and Mega Man. However, if it goes to individual IPs being bought, the fight would be over Monster Hunter and Resident Evil big time. Microsoft cannot buy out Capcom because it is a western company, leaving Sony and Nintendo squabbling over these two properties (if another third party does not merge or collection Capcom).

If Capcom does kick the bucket, i think at the very least Nintendo would buy the Megaman IP, and possibly Phoenix Wright and Monster Hunter. As for the other franchises, it's possible that Microsoft could buy Dead Rising, but that's about it. Like you said, it would probably be a hassle to get IPs like Resident Evil and Street Fighter.

I honestly just hope Nintendo buys the whole company, because they're more than capable of buying them with their huge reserves of cash. And they could use the support from them for the Wii U and 3DS. Capcom would make a great second-party developer for Ninty.

I think this actually really good. The ones running Capcom have been terrible at their jobs lately as with most AAA publishers.

Resident Evil 6 is a financially over-bloated mess, Megaman has been completely ignored altogether unless it was Nintendo, Devil May Cry was rebooted just for the sake of it, Street Fighter and other fighting games have been milked and rereleased over and over, let's even forget how Capcom's been abusing DLC of late and their idea of their future relying on DLC.

With a company as bad as Capcom, I can't feel sorry for the ones making all these decisions, I DO feel sorry those who worked on those Capcom games and I hope they can still have work but aside that, I'm excited to see what companies will buy their IP.

Here's some of my speculation

Ducktales (Disney, which would be ironic)

Street Fighter (Bandai Namco, Disney, EA, Activision or any first part publisher)

Resident Evil (Ubisoft, EA or Bethesda)

Monster Hunter (Nintendo)

Mega Man (Nintendo)

Devil May Cry (Sony or Nintendo)

Dead Rising (Microsoft)

Darkstalkers (Arc System Works)

Deep Down (Sony or Bandai Namco)

Lost Planet (Sega, EA, Activision or 2K Games)

Breath of Fire (Bandai Namco or Square-Enix)

Ace Attorney (Nintendo or Level 5)

Okami (Nintendo)

Onimusha (Microsoft or Tecmo Koei)

Other IP (Who knows…)

^ DMC to Nintendo? Really?

In other news, I'm hoping nintendo do can grab Mega Man, Pheonix Wright, and Street Fighter. Mostly because I want Pheonix Wright and the Street Figthers to be in smash, but whatever.

I hope Nintendo just straight up buys Capcom, Nintendo has done more to Mega Man in 12 months than Capcom in 7 years. I really wonder what they'd do with the other franchises that Capcom is just trying to milk.

^Probably give them a rest for a while before introducing back to what made them great in the first place, specifically Resident Evil and Street Fighter.

I only care that Nintendo or, by some miracle, Keiji Inafune, gets Mega Man. The other franchises could got to all sorts of companies and be in good hands. But Nintendo or Inafune have to get Mega Man.

Don't count out SEGA. Nobody expected them to buy Atlus, and yet they did. I could see them scooping something up... maybe. Assuming some sort of sellout actually is going to happen. *brick'd*

So let me get this straight.

Capcom = Company that brought the concept of MegaMan to life, published all of his games, but hasn't had a game in years.

Nintendo = Company that got Megaman in Smash 4, suddenly gains popularity and flaming of Capcom, not a single game published by them.

Seriously, y'all should be glad Capcom is even here, otherwise we'd be getting "Who's MegaMan? What's an energy tank? Rockman?"

i just want more okami, since it has potential of being a great franchise, but nothing is happening with it (kind of like megaman at the moment). if nintendo buying capcom will result in more okami, then i'm fine with it ;__;

and nintendo will do great with megaman

That doesn't mean the company is still good now. Whoever is running Capcom, has no idea on how much Mega Man means to everyone and thinks the franchise too childish in a time when Call of Duty is the craze.

Well the creator of Mega Man's long gone from Capcom...but the Mighty No. 9 looks better than Mega Man atm.

like stevemacQ said, that doesn't mean the company is still making a lot of good choices right now. Megaman is missing in action, resident evil has been having games ranging from meh to horrible (revelations was probably the best game in the series for a long time, though), street fighter is getting another street fighter 4 upgrade, and many, many other bad decisions.

Nintendo knows how to handle their IPs, even if some franchises have been gone for awhile. Nintendo is aware that there's still a lot of people that care about megaman. They make high-quality games to this day, and if megaman was in their hands, Wii U and 3DS sales would skyrocket. If any company is good enough to take the MM IP, it's them. Not to mention most of megaman's games, and some of the ones that people consider the best in the series overall, have been on Nintendo platforms. Sticking with Nintendo isn't something new for megaman.

This. You cannot say there was more demand for a Pikmin 3, Game & Wario, or Mario Maker than another Mega Man. This leads me to believe the series wouldn't be wasted as a Nintendo exclusive, but I can see certain titles like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, etc. not having another release.

^You never know. Devil May Cry is too relevant to just die out. I imagine Sony could buy the Devil May Cry franchise, making the series PlayStation-exclusive once more and be handled those who worked on the previous titles, PlatinumGames or even Sony Santa Monica they can make God of War look pretty while running 60fps.

I'm talking about their place on Nintendo platforms, most of those series either haven't had a Nintendo release or haven't in a while. If Nintendo owned them, I cannot see much besides Smash Bros.

Just as an FYI, you guys should be wary of the fact that even if Nintendo owned other Capcom IPs after this, that doesn't mean they will get into Smash. If Nintendo bought the Mega Man IP, that could mean more Mega Man characters get in, but I can't see any other Capcom franchises getting in. While Street Fighter characters may seem like a no-brainer, Sakurai says that he doesn't really want characters who hail from other fighters in the game (and while Link, Samus, Sonic, and Mega Man may have appeared in other fighters, they don't come from them originally - except Sonic, who's fighting game appearances outside of Smash are in his own spin-offs, so it doesn't really count).

And in general, I think Mega Man is the only Capcom franchise that warrants a rep in Smash. It's so strongly associated with Nintendo, that many people think Mega Man IS a Nintendo character.

The other Capcom franchises may have a game or two on a Nintendo system, but they aren't really associated with Nintendo.
