Several other vulgar words aren't censored, it's been discussed before.
Dick is a name. Pussy can be linked with cats, but even that can be considered inappropriate. Cock is another name for chicken.

I think the best and mature thing to do would be to worry less about an auto-censor on the word and just report someone if they post something offensive.

Well, I learned that much like the word for inter family realtionships, the thing that makes people go horny and make their libido increase makes the post have an error and will not let you post the word.

It's times like this that I feel like no one should have the right to question Neopets' filters.
When a mod can justify swear words like that, it's only a matter of time until they allow inappropriate discussion - oh wait, nevermind, that happens already. I'll be back to '"grapes" is censored' dot com for the rest of the day, thank you very much.

Lots of words have multiple meanings. An auto-censor is just the least-amount-of-effort way to do things.
Instead of blanket censoring of words that may or may not be bad (and acting like second graders whenever someone says one), how about we be adults, recognize the difference and just take action when an individual makes the choice to use one of them in an inappropriate manor. |

Can we say '***'? It might mean a cigarette.
Let's see . . . Edit: Apparently not.

Yes, let's expect a 13 year old or less make mature use of words that might mean nasty stuff.
Actually, just go to Youtube to know how that worked out. EDIT: Doesn't even have to be that young, but if I say everyone somebody is going to get mad at me.

13 year olds aren't supposed to use these forums according to the Terms of Service of the site.
Let's not set policy based upon people who aren't supposed to be using the site in the first place. |

Sorry - I prefer - and hope that dark does as well - that those in power don't make broad, sweeping policies based upon the lowest common denominator. Set reasonable policies and address the few that cause the issues instead of overly harsh policies and those who will cause issues will still find a way to cause issues.

On the subject of being okay to be as inappropriate as possible, Dark52 and/or mods, might I ask where in the rules it's stated you have to be over 13 years old to use this place? I couldn't find them at all.

The US Federal Government, via the FTC, defines personal information as an e-mail address. Under the COPPA law, websites are not allowed to collect personal information (which includes e-mail addresses) from individuals under the age of 13 without direct parental consent. This is why the Curse ToS includes that line. |

Wow. There is absolutely nothing correct about this statement in any way, shape or form. Quote:
A kid figuring out how to click the button to open the browser instead of playing Math Blaster is *not* parental consent. Allowing a kid to use the internet is *not* parental consent to allowing any random third party to collect Personal Information from their children. We're talking about pretty well-defined legal issues here... |

Actually, it's exactly the answer I needed, Spyrobaro. If they allow people under 13 years old on this crap, shouldn't Dark52 obey the COPPA laws? As in, no, telling them not to reveal personal information isn't the only thing he should be doing. In fact, with that one, he's accepting to expose children to inappropriate content without parental consent and hoping they'll cover their eyes and not be, well, kids and do the irresponsible things like say their full names, where they live; or parrot what the older users say which is going to backfire horribly later - for them or their parents.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C..._Protection_Act And one may argue this place isn't here for commercial purposes, but it's now part of Curse and gets money from ads. Really would like a mod or him to talk about that, even if I'm wrong. As in, not UncleBob because he seems to have embraced topic derailing in every opportunity possible.

Not to mention your entire derailing of this thread by making it about age in the first place... |

Use that to create an account. Edit: I'm older than 13, just wanna make that clear. |

That'd imply people ever get banned for just that. As another thread said, you only get banned if you overuse them - not that it matters because the damage has been done with a single inappropriate post that goes through, let alone a few.

The Websites are not directed toward children under 13 years of age nor does Curse knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not submit any personally identifiable information Curse.
Copyright from Terms and Services. Anyway, Depends which way you use these words in, Yes Dick is a name, Cock is a rooster, Pussy can be relayed to a pussy cat. They can be used in a offensive term. Pussy, Dick, Cock are not censored because they mean other things other then the offensive use of it. |

You can lie about your age. But then, it's your fault if you get exposed to something offensive because you lied. Don't come crying to someone else because you lied and then something bad happened because of your lie.
