Ok guys, 343 Industries finally officially announced the new Halo game along with some cover art.
As you can see from the topic title, the game is going to be called Halo 5: Guardians and it's said to be released on fall 2015. The game is supposed to be more massive in content, scope and technology than Halo 4 was, and it will introduce a new (I'm guessing playable) main character.
Everything we know about this new character is that he's an ONI operative, and by the looks of it a Spartan IV. Can't say much beyond that.

Here's a link to the cover art. I'll also give you three guesses as to where my new avatar is from.
http://cnet3.cbsistatic.com/hu...dians-art-1.jpg

I don't know about you, but I definetly see some juxtaposition here. New and old, energetic and calm, ONI operative and a loner hero. Curiously enough, they placed the new character on the top instead of the Master Chief (non-arguably the most important character in the series), so the viewer perceives him as the "centerpiece" of the picture.
To be honest, this whole cover art reminds me of the old Fable 1 cover art, where the young hero sees an evil reflection of himself in the surface of a lake. It's possible that the developers wanted that same kinda effect on this picture. Both of these characters are of importance, they're both heroes, just on different sides. They're not enemies (maybe), but they also aren't friends. Much like the Master Chief and the Arbiter. Also note, that the even the game is titled "Guardians", not "Guardian".

I've watched some of Ready Up Live's videos regarding the subject, and I think Greenskull has got the right idea as to how the storyline might develop from hereon. The Reclaimer trilogy has so far been way more "art-like" in nature than the old Halo trilogy was. There are a lot of subtle hints for the players (or viewers, in some sense) to chew on. It is also essentially a story about not the Halo rings or the war with the Covenant, but the Master Chief, on a much more personal level.
Playing as Chief always left little to go for with his character development, as he was meant to be a kind of a "faceless soldier" that the player could identify with. In future games we might get to see him more from the sidelines, through the eyes of an outsider, and this is where the new character comes in. This way the player might get to approach him as a "stranger", and really get to know to him in ways that we haven't been able to before.
So, I'm sure hyped. Also can't wait to see if they bring Firefight back, and whatever new things they might add to the multiplayer.

Give me your thoughts.

Pretty psyched for this game smilie and also with this having a release date of next year, that nearly quarentees we will be seeing Aniversary 2 this year. Seeing as 343 has insisted that our next journey will begin this year. I'm interested to see this new character and hope its done like Halo 2 was but i'd rather play as Chief more. Yeah it'd be cool to see him from the side lines and through the eyes of another but at the same time he is our character, the one we have been with for over a decade. I'd also like to see them bring back "boss battles" (for lack of a better term) like in halo 2. Like when we fought the Heretic Leader and Tartarus. I would have loved to actually have a lil scuffle with the Gravemind in 3 and was sad that the Didact was taken out via cutscene in 4. Also very interested to see what has become of Halsey <.<

I actually liked the Halo 3 ending without a boss battle, because it was more the ending of Halo: Combat Evolved. I started out my "Halo career" with Combat Evolved when I was 8 years old so it always gives me a little twinge of nostalgia.

And the Didact.. Well, I would've liked to see him outside of the cutscenes also, but he could've killed Chief so easily a boss battle wouldn't really have made sense. He's a pretty badass individual.

But I agree with you on that Chief should still remain the main playable character. I think this new character will be more like the new Arbiter, who might come back at some point also, but not as a playable character himself.

I suppose you're right on the boss part lol I was thinkin for Gravemind along the lines of fighting your way past him after Truth was killed. Or maybe something like fighting them and finishing it via cutscene for added effect. I started Halo at a young age too, that and pokemon are what got me into video games smilie I have high expectations for 5 though since it will be Halos true debut performance on the Xone. But i am really hoping for a remastered Halo 2 this year. Seems like it wouldnt be too much of a hassle to up the graphics like they did for the original and Halo 2 is the one i played the least which is really unfortunate cause i would have liked to play it more than when i had the chance

Yeah, a Halo 2 remake would be nice. Most work should be put on Halo 5 getting the most out of the new console, and a remake wouldn't be too much of an effort to make.

Interesting I suppose, and an open world Halo could work.

But it's not going to be the game that forces me to jump into next-gen.

Looks good. though this is really my only reason to own an Xbox One. I'm not going to get a whole console just because one game looks good for it.

Dead rising 3 or Titanfall dont count enough? smilie (the latter i can understand lol) Honestly Halo is the reason i got the Xone at release. I knew the next installment would most likely be on there and if not then the franchise would b on there soon enough.

Any ways apparently Spartan Assault is gonna be free with gold on the Xone next month smilie gives me an excuse to get it

Halo has always been the reason for me to buy an Xbox. I did so with Combat Evolved and Halo 3, now I'll do it for Halo 5.
At least this time there's also Destiny to wait for.

Got new stuff coming in, fresh from the E3.

A teaser of the new "Master Chief Collection", also includes some possible hints about Halo 5: Guardians.

And a teaser of the new Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta, included in the collection.

As much as I love Dead Rising, Dead Rising 3 for a time was my only reason to get a One. And It's coming to PC this year so there's really no point in getting a One when i could just get a really nice PC.

And Titanfall... I know a lot of people liked it, but i didn't really enjoy it. The gameplay was solid, but everything else was pretty flawed imo. I stopped playing it like a week after the game came out to 360.

Halo 5, as well as the new Master Chief collection, are the only reasons i have to owning a One. Personally i need more reason than just that. I got a Wii U for numerous games coming out, and I want a PS4 because of its numerous interesting games. To me, the One doesn't have that many interesting titles right now, save the Halo games and the new Crackdown 3, and most games coming to the One are coming to PS4.

I'd rather have a PS4 and Wii U than a One. I need more than Halo for me to get a One.

We all need more Halo my friend lol but fair enough. I wasnt aware that Dead Rising was coming to the PC. And i can agree with Titanfall. No campaign made it kinda less enjoyable since there is no real background to the game and i was saddened at the lack of customization for characters and titans

anyways back on topic for Halo. For the Master Chief Collection they said it contained all of the multiplayer maps, over 100 maps. That means that when we go to play multiplayer it will b picking from all those maps, or is it gonna be something like we pick the multiplayer from Halo 3 and it selects from Halo 3 maps? I was a little confused on that part

I think all the maps are going to be kept to their respective game. 343 said that each game will keep- and literally, with all bugs, exploits, and bugs with each game, keep- their respective multiplayer games.

for example, halo 2 will keep everything from its original multiplayer, including unbalances and exploits, as well as all the maps that were originally in halo 2 multiplayer.

At least, i'm pretty sure this is what 343 is doing.

Cool cool.
