I went to Toys R Us today and preordered Trap Team. They gave me a Lightcore Hex for free. I was a bit perplexed by this, but I'm not gonna complain about an extra freebie.

Guys, don't pre-order the game or figures yet, it's silly. We don't even know pre-order bonuses, it isn't like the game is going to be hard to come by, and we don't know for sure which stores might have special editions. We will likely have more information around E3, but it won't be really locked down until August or so. We aren't even sure if the TRU version is really Legendary or not. Wait until you find out who has the deals and the best bonus, or at bare minimum, who has special editions (they will be the only ones remotely rare, and then only for certain consoles - like Dark for WiiU last year).

And for heaven's sake, don't pre-order figures. I mean geez. Even if stores do offer them, all you are doing is setting a reservation for a Wave 1 figure at full retail price. Practically every store will have SOME kind of deal on figures release week, and Wave 1 stuff is NEVER rare until months later.

Stores are playing a mind game, they are trying to get you to commit to them before any of the competition for deals starts. Yes, you can cancel at most places, but you are gaining NOTHING by pre-ordering now but the satisfaction of reserving a game that you won't need a reserve to get on release day. Wait until the stores start fighting each for your money. Tell them you demand more incentive to make a commitment to them for the release.

You would rather have the figures before the launch that you can't use and are willing to forego a likely Buy 1 Get 1 40% off sale for that? And that's assuming they ship them early, which most stores do not. The game will release on a Sunday, so in many cases you will not get those pre-orders until Monday - after everyone else is enjoying them.

It doesn't make it so you can get the one you want, you can get the one you want anyways. Nothing in Wave 1 is EVER rare for MONTHS.

Sure, go ahead and pre-order the game ... in August, after the deals all come out and you know where the best place to buy it is and what they are offering. TRU had a Hex + another free figure deal pop up mid summer. Target didn't even put out those hat pre-order cards until mid summer. Dark Edition wasn't announced until late summer (whether you want it or not).

The figures, no, just no, unless some variant is put up. Wait for Day 1 sales.

And sorry for introducing logic into the mad dash to reserve (and in some cases put money down on) something that will be incredibly easy to find and most likely at a better deal six months early. I like the franchise as much as anyone, but there are very good reasons to wait a while here. Give the retailers time to sweeten the deal and give more details.

I completely agree with Defpally, it makes absolutely no sense to pre-order anything now.

To be honest, I just think it's a greedy move on the store's part. Why should we be expected to shell out money now for a game that we still know practically nothing about? I'm waiting until we get more information.

Preorder if you want to be safe and like that confort, u can always return ur preorder etc.

Please. Really. Wave 1 is always stupidly common, and that's what will be up for pre-order.

If your religion involves Skylanders or tells you things that a directly contradictory with well established facts and history, then yes it is stupid. What people are buying is "peace of mind" for the retailers. You are telling them "I don't need to stinkin' bonuses or deals to pre-order this game six months in advance". It also has nothing to do with an ivory tower, we are trying to help people realize they can wait for better deals and fears that this will be hard to find are unnecessary (and every single person here knows that if they really think about it). The more people that wait, the more stores realize they have to sweeten the deal to get you to buy it from them.

I have to admit retailers really have this thing figured out. They get people to line up before the game even comes out. They know once people put their pre-order down most people won't even go through the hassle to change it if another store has a better deal.

One thing that's interesting this time around is the Traptanium things. Will they be bundled with certain figures? Come in packs? Sold in their own packs and how much. Also will some stores like GameStop have Dark Edition crystals? This is going to drain the bank really badly because of all the extra stuff needed but as soon as I saw this I thought it was awesome but I can't get into it.... But after it being stuck to my brain for a couple of days and remembering the excitement of the hunt and not getting into it when it starts and months later seeing all the figures on the shelf thinking how behind If be, I'm now ready to pre order as soon as I find out all the bonuses. Also I think since the last two figures are being released from SF it will give my mom a breather so I'm not just constantly throwing money at figures haha..... But Disney Infinity Marvel..... Whyyyyyyy!!!!! It's too much awesomeness at once (even though Skylanders is more fun).

GameStop let's you preorder any game once they have a price and release date. They aren't doing anything special here. They don't have a criteria of "we need x info before we allow pre-orders". If the store has the date and price, you can reserve a copy.

I know I'm going to buy Trap Team, so pre ordering makes sense to me. Of course in going to wait until I see bonus's and special editions but with pre orders you put your money there and you don't have to scrap and save for it when it comes out, you then have more money for Characters and now crystals. Places like Walmart and Amazon sometimes offer release date delivery guarantee as well so you don't have to leave your house. Some games I just pick up when I'm out and don't care about pew ordering or getting it the first day though, but pre ordering makes it a bit easier on the mom or spouse because you can make small payments on it and it's not something your getting right now.

This is a tough decision. Buy at launch for full price, or wait and get for half price in November. Anyone going to wait? My daughters 6th birthday is October 4th, so it is unlikely that I can hold off demand in my house, especially with the cool Trap mechanic.

Honestly, if pre-order bonuses show up get it at launch, then hold onto your receipt for the inevitable "Get this now on Black Friday" megasale they constantly have.

Or whenever they have a sale. Because we're three games in and they've always had a sale shortly after launch.

I didn't hear anything crazy. I heard the voice of reason--evaluate the game before you buy. I don't think anyone gives an evilized crystal what the store can or can't do. I'll give you the greedy comment, but hey--Activision isn't doing all of this week just to make us happy---they want to profit. So do the stores so they can pay their cashiers.

Provided I'm a buyer, no way I'm doing it without the traditional half off sale.

For Swap Force I got it for about the price it was on Black Friday at Launch. Got A $10 Off coupon from Frito Lay and TRU had a coupon as well. Was able to use both coupons at TRU to get the Starter pack for about $42 DAY ONE With a free Lightcore Hex. Here's to hoping for more coupons for Trap Team!!!!

The funnier part was TRU gave u one free figure and lc hex..thou the way the coupon was being entered you could have returned the game and the figures u got for 1 cent each. The only reason I know this is I went to return one of the figures to tru with rewards and they were like it's 1 cent do u want to return it.

Well, I want to preorder it this time so (hopefully) a store has a great pre-order bonus.

I should be using the bold function, but the greedy part was the only part I was talking about. "Greedy" gets thrown around these days WAY too loosely.

Maybe they found that more people were just buying the card for the hat, but not actually using it to pick up the game. Could have soured them if they bought so many units based on preorder cards, then sold only a fraction of them. I don't really know how that all works exactly, but that's just a thought I had.

Anyone notice the countdown clock on TRU's website?

Maybe my math is off, but the countdown clock points to November 5th. Days to release should be 31 days less, I believe.

I'm still holding until the /possible/ announcement of a special edition. I really liked the Dark one from last year so I wonder if there's a remote chance they'll bring out another one for Trap Team.

I went to Target today 5/23 and there's a new display for Trap Team. Get a free Trap and it says only at Target. You get Outlaw Brawl and Chain villain. They are switching out the old target reservation cards for this new 1 today.
