I feel like people here are focusing a lot on how newer episodes suck (and the few bits I've seen of most recent episodes actually seem to be a little better) and not on just how big and popular this show was, and in some ways still is. We all loved those first few seasons of Spongebob for a reason; they were witty, funny, and had good writing to back it up. And the movie itself was probably a relatively big deal or at least a favorite in a lot of our childhoods.

Considering that this show has lasted as long as it has (longest running cartoon in Nick's history) is a pretty big deal, even if it has stumbled about in recent years with its quality. Spongebob is a cultural landmark and I think it would be cool to think about the good the show has done, rather than complain about what doesn't work today.
