No, they drain batteries fast.

They have abandon the idea of wireless portals. They learned that lesson fast.

I hope so, I hate being constricted to the system.

It was only just bearable in SSA, but now that it has a speaker, and probably another RFID reader (for the traps), the power drain would be even more - it would become impossible to play without being uber-frustrated at the portal's batteries running out.

I just hate the wires....

Rechargeable batteries was the best compromise for the wireless portal.

The new portal has a wire coming out of it, so it's probably going to be wired again.

I would like a wireless portal that plugs into the wall as an option. The way our living room sets up, there been a few near death falls of my ps3 due to ppl not looking where theya re going.

Also, with the new portal, the only place any batteries could fit is next to the trap hole, which is inhabited by the speaker.

With a portal that size maybe solar power is an option

This. While cost would be a factor, the portal could be both USB and Wireless. Plug it directly into the system if you like, or plug it into the wall (via USB adapter) and use the wireless feature on it.

Then you'd still need a wireless USB connector to the system, console manufacturers never let you connect a wireless device without a USB adapter - and Microsoft don't even let you do that.

You'd have two USB devices going at one if you connected it to the mains, which kind of seems pointless. People might not like the wired portal (which I never understood, because the cable is very long), but most people who had the wireless portal for SSA really didn't like having to change the batteries every time you played. Especially when the thing took 4 batteries at once.

Oh, you'd totally need the wireless dongle (Microsoft *will* let others use a dongle, they just have to pay extra fees). The cost would be too much, but it'd be a nice option to give people.
