A night club for a music minigame, occasional profanity ("Nope. Not dealing with that [bleep]."), no blood, many animal/dragon punchlines ("Let's LIGHT IT UP!!!" "Oh, that's LIT!" "Yeah, better watch for that big bad wolf right there," "Hope that guy doesn't claw on ya."), close ups for every tail swing Spyro makes, more explosions, bigger sheep...
Basically, I'm thinking that Spyro should go Naughty Dog style. I may sound crazy, but I have my name for a reason, you know.

Not your idea of "T" Rated, but considering Super Smash Bros. Brawl is T Rated in North America, and is 12+ in Europe, I wouldn't mind seeing a T/12+ Rated Spyro game, if it was for the right reasons.

If you want a T rated Spyro game, just play every other dragon game that exists. Spyro's pretty refreshing in that it's not "OMG so dark n serious! 8D".

I don't think they could pull it off either. I love Naughty Dog, but a game with minor profanities and what you described is better done with guys as insane as the old Rare (since many have left now). But like I said, I'm with the 'keep Spyro away from that stuff' anyway. |

These are not the lines you'd find in a rated T game.... As for the topic itself, I guess I would be fine with a rated T Spyro game, simply because LoS was already acting like a more mature Spyro game. Just without the rating to go with it. You don't need profanity, bad puns, or God of War like close-ups/slowdowns to have a mature Spyro game. Frankly I think that would make it even more immature than the children-oriented games are now. I think OP is more or less just asking for a better LoS with less plotholes. Also a lot of those dragon games kinda suck. |

Shadow Legacy was one of the biggest financial and critical failures in the entire Spyro franchise. There will be no official, canon sequel. Ever. The end.
LoS is AHT/Shadow Legacy already, just with all the fun sucked out of it (it was even written by the same guys, Mike Graham and Chris Wilson, and has the exact same plot). Chris Wilson was let go from the Spyro franchise years ago and Mike Graham has been happily working on the $2 billion Skylanders series. Neither one of them is in a position to make an SL sequel even if they wanted to (and I'm pretty sure they don't). To top it off, most Spyro fans have never played SL nor do they care to. Like my signature says, I'm here to crush your dreams. It's not exactly a hobby, but I am getting roundly sick of this coming up in every topic you're in, Loco. It's not going to happen, ever, the end, please stop bringing it up. I know I'm not the only person getting tired of the constant topic derailments. Take it to the SL board or fandom board where it belongs and the folks who care can find and enjoy it. |

Better LoS doesn't equate to a darker LoS. In the same way that darker game doesn't mean more mature. I wouldn't mind seeing LoS redone at least in book format where the plotholes and story cliches were ironed out. Quote: LocoGuy107
LoS was a complete reboot. SL is pretty much its own game with no real ties to any other aside from having familiar characters. Quote: Razz
I don't think you're really crushing his dreams if he's still going on about it. Also your goal shouldn't be to crush dreams but that's besides the point. Seeing how we're in the General Spyro/Skylanders section where everything about Spyro goes I don't see how this is in any way wrong or in the wrong section. He may get annoying with derailing other threads with a different point, but this is his own topic. He's OP. If he wants to make a topic about a T rated Spyro game with his personal hopes of it being a SL sequel so be it. Disagree with his opinions, sure. But don't tell him it's in the wrong place when it isn't. |

I'll get around to LotR eventually. Like when the first movie doesn't put me to sleep. Even still, the idea of LoS being redone in a more mature, less cliched, better written style is something I wouldn't mind having. Gameplay wise it could probably do better too. |

Haha, you should try the books. *grin* LoS is also Star Wars, only the latter is waaaay better (well, the movies that came out in the 70s and 80s, anyway). :D Way back when, I almost rewrote LoS in fanfic form, but it's just not worth it to me anymore. |

Okay guys, you want to know the REAL reason why I asked this? A lot of people, even you guys, have been playing more hardcore games lately. Some of those games include Gears of War, The Elder Scrolls (Skyrim, specifically), Grand Theft Auto, Xenoblade, inFamous, Dark Souls, and even CALL OF DUTY!!!!1! All of those games have at least one or more of the following: language, blood, drug reference, sexual themes, violence, use of drugs, nudity, etc. Even KIDS play that stuff!!!! Really, THEY DO!!!! I met a teacher who lets her 8-year-old play GTA V, and even though she knows it's rated "M," she's OKAY with it!!!
The Spyro game I'm talking about goes on Uncharted's level. The only suggestive stuff in that series are blood, language, and violence, but I'm taking out the blood. Blood in a Spyro game would really call for disturbing situations, unless there's a love-situation in which Spyro's almost DEAD. Plus, this will call for the classic Spyro to come in, since he's very cocky. He's not as cocky as any of the soldiers in Call of Duty, not even as cocky as ELLIE, but he's cocky enough to be a dragon version of Nathan Drake today! Look guys, remember Jak & Daxter? The first game was rated "E," just for comic mischief. The sequel then became rated "T" because Naughty Dog wanted to intensify the entire series, just to make it EXCITING. Yes, I know it called for suggestive themes, violence, and language (Daxter even says "crap," "ass," and I think "hell" in this game), but the intensity is a lower notch, compared to Uncharted's intensity. I mean, if you look back at any of the games, you'd see it'd be kind of awkward for Naughty Dog to stay at the happy children's "comic mischief" level for their action games, but this kind of stuff has potential to fit in a new Spyro game. I mentioned a minigame, I mentioned puns (which should be pleasant, if not humorous to hear), and I mentioned action themes! Look, if you want a new TLoS game, I'm not sure if it can happen anymore. The way the series ended is as hardcore a Spyro game as it can get, even if Dawn of the Dragon got mixed reviews. However, Spyro: Shadow Legacy was an inspiration for TLoS, but Shadow Legacy ended on a cliffhanger. I still feel a merge can help to resolve the cliffhanger, bring back as many characters as possible, and even bring back the hardcore gameplay from TLoS (I actually LOVED the furies), but I can see that you guys have different opinions. |

Define "more hardcore"... ...And before you do, please understand that this is a trick question. Because I entirely disagree with the "hardcore" and "casual" gamer distinction that is commonly accepted, as it's just entitled/big-headed gamers looking for something to make themselves feel more important. Also, blood, gore, language, etc, are not required to make a game better. I mean, I'm a 19 year old guy and the last game I played was Super Mario 3D World, and I specifically opted to play as the female character who is the adoptive mother to just the most adorable little cult of star children. :I

More hardcore games are the type of games that involve at least some cinematic action or explosive gameplay. Even if the game itself doesn't have explosives, intense camera shakes, or whatever, as long as it gets your heart beating fast, or as long as it pushes you to try the best you can do, just by MASHING all the buttons, or by REALLY critical thinking, the game is hardcore.
Whereas casual games would be games that would require almost no prior knowledge of playing video games to work with. You get fluid gameplay, even if you lose (examples of these types of games include Flappy Bird, Tiny Wings, Wii Sports, Angry Birds, Pac-Man, Mario, etc.). TLoS falls on the hardcore side. All other Spyro games fall under casual, except SHADOW LEGACY. It's an underdeveloped hardcore game, but no one realized it. |
sonicbrawler182 Platinum Sparx Gems: 7105 |
#38 Posted: 23:33:18 25/04/2014
...Not really.
What kind of games get your heart beating fast is entirely subjective. I play Call of Duty, and find myself half asleep, I get that bored. Yet, millions of people seem to find it the most exhilarating thing in the world. Meanwhile, I play something like Mario and get a real thrill speedrunning it, while other people just dilly dally, or find it boring entirely. The fact is "casual games" and "hardcore games" don't exist. Nor do "casual gamers" or "hardcore gamers". This is an extreme simplification of how people actually play games. For example, many people may say that Wii Fit is just some casual game that you play for a week or so and never touch again. But there may be people who play the game every day, for extended periods of time, and set all kinds of score records in it. Is it still a casual game, and are these players still casual gamers? Likewise, I've already given an example of how I can't take Call of Duty very seriously, or get super engaged in it. Is Call of Duty still hardcore? Am I a hardcore gamer for playing it?

People often play a mix of games. After you've had your soul ripped out by M-rated Tomb Raider, maybe you want to play cute and fluffy Kirby. Once you've exhausted your ability for dialogue and story and gorgeous in Okami, you blow of steam by shooting dudes in CoD. T and M rated games are not any better than E rated games and each type has its place and its time.
