Has anybody had that done? If so, could you tell me about it?

My parents are considering letting me do it because they think it would be a good idea. They're worried that my glasses will break or get lost or something while I'm at college.

Idk :/

I personally have never gotten it done, but my step-dad had it done years ago and has never had any problems since then.

In Australia you have to be over 20 any have your vision stable for a year before you can be considered for laser eye surgery.

Lazer eye surgery has only been commonly used since the very late 90's to the early 00's and definitely not on children. You couldn't have had it.

I'm actually sacrificing getting braces just so I can get laser eye surgery when I grow up. My eyes have pulled off a whooping 4 in short-sightedness, so I need to wear them 24/7. >.>;

When your vision is just developing, and doing so can give your eyes physical problems? Yeah, I'm not buying it.

At least my parents told me so. They appeared to use a laser to get the canser in my eyes away.

maybe get contacts and carry those around too? it'd be cheaper and an alternative if your glasses did break or get lost and you could get surgery later

It's still the standard procedure guidelines for most first world countries (including the US.)

I've tried contacts. Personally they seem to be more trouble than they're worth lol

"LASIK is FDA-approved for those 18 and older. Most providers encourage young adults to wait until their mid-20s because, until this time, a person’s prescription may be still changing."

Anyway, I saw this video... not really sure if I want to do it now... >__>

Anyways, contacts aren't too difficult to insert and remove when you start wearing them. It took me an hour to learn how to insert contacts, but during the same day when I had to take them out it took me five seconds to remove both of them. If you have some patience they become incredibly easy to wear.

Ah, I got it right the procedure criteria correct. Thanks for clarifying that.

By the time I would get it done, if I decide to get it done, I'll be like 19 1/2, so I'm sure I would qualify. If not, I'll just wait xD

It's not the inserting and removing part that bothers me... although that did take me a while to get used to lol It was while they were in. My right eye usually responded fine, but my left eye was always irritated from it and it was a pain in the ass. I would have to wear it practically all day while constantly having to mess with it, and by the time I was used to it, the day was over and it was time to take them out >.<

Braces are pretty expensive.

Edit: And apparently laser eye surgery is, too.

Is it LASIK that you'd be receiving? There are a couple of other procedures. LASIK is really just using lasers to restructure your cornea so the lenses of your eyes can properly focus objects onto your retina. It's become a fairly routine procedure in the United States. However, the changes made by the laser are completely irreversible and, given that it's a procedure using lasers, it's fairly complex.

You might want to research it a little more before making a decision.

You get free braces on the NHS if your teeth are considered bad enough.

Except in this country there is no NHS.

Considering how the family is quite short in money lately due to crisis, we just can't be having them right or we'd have to save for quite a while. And since I really don't care of the position of my teeth, rather just their health, I was more than willing to sacrifice it. Laser eye surgery is a lot more worth it. With any hope they'll be able to afford the laser at that time, of course.

You'd think that if your eyesight was good that you'd take your eyes off for a while right??????

Excuse me...? ._.'

I'm going to need laser eye surgery later in my life. I'm so nearsighted im blind without my glasses. When I'm not wearing my glasses I have to use my memory and rely on sounds and motions to know where I'm going. DX

Just curious, what contacts did you use that made them more of a hassle than they are worth? I'm asking because personally I wear contacts and I hardly have any issues with mine, there are rare occasions where they fall out, but more times than not, they don't bother me, I often forget that I'm wearing contacts a lot of the time. I'm wondering if it was a different type, because I wear Day & Night contacts, which means I never have to take them out and wash them nearly as often, in fact almost never. The only time I take them out is if they tear or if I lose one and have to put another in.

If I remember correctly, they were only good for two weeks of wearing.
