Has anyone here tried to collect as few gems as possible, and complete this game?

I do try to speedrun the game sometimes. But now you mention, I shall try getting minimal gems next time.

I'd say you have to get a certain amount since you can't skip ALL the Moneybags payments. Looks like I get to play the game again, sometime! Not sure when I'll have time though. I'll see how low I can get my Gemcount.

No.... I mean, it's too hard for me to finish a game with a lower %....

But I can give it a try >.<

Alright, I just completed my run that was just casual. I finished the game with 183 gems. I did use the All Powerups cheat and obviously did the Double Jump glitch to finish levels instantly... I could have finished with about 10-50 gems if i didn't enter any levels. You can skip all three worlds to fight the bosses right from the start, and i only skipped Autumn Plains and after i finished every legitimately enterable level(Excludes Zephyr and Shady Oasis). I also did the Negative gem count glitch, but the game seemed to zero out my Gem count when i defeated ripto and added my actual collected amount to it. I entered Ripto's Lair with approx. -417 gems. I'm interested to see anyone else's records!

I'm doing a clean run with only exploits (out of bounds, double jump). Wish me luck. This is a LEGITIMATE run.

UPDATE 1: Brother Curtis in Colossus makes leaving without gems impossible. In the event you confront him, Spyro strays into a gem. I didn't even have Sparx active. Double jump to avoid.

EDIT 2: Summer Forest complete with 543 gems, -500 paid for diving.

Why would you need to talk to Brother Curtis? The Platform he activates just has gems up there.

The default path requires you to activate the pedestal... Anyone without knowledge of exploits NEED to go this way. If you wanna double jump around the walls, sure you can make it out.

EDIT: You still need the gems to purchase Moneybags' upgrades anyways.

I don't feel that good to finish the game with not 100%.

Same here! I can't even stand to leave a level without getting all the gems (minus Spyro 2's backtracking smilie Spyro 3 does it some because of unlocking characters, but not as much). I once spent a couple hours wandering around Lost Fleet because I somehow missed a few gems. I am really impressed with speed runs, though, so good luck to everyone who does this! It's cool to see people's results. It's pretty interesting because this "minimal gem run" is essentially a different way of playing a game I've played countless times! I'm guessing it changes a lot about the game. It's sorta like an "anti-collectathon" or something smilie
