I don't get the error message it just doesn't read him. I have tried him in Giants and still no luck. Any suggestions?

Put him in Giants and go to Options. You'll see a "Reset Toy" option in the General Options pages.
This is on the main menu.

I can give you only a little advice that I suppose you can take at your own risk. My brother in law had 2 toys stop working, LC Pop Fizz and Roller Brawl. RB started working again when he hit it rather hard against something. Dunno how that worked, but sometimes it just needs a good shot to get it going. LC Pop Fizz doesn't work no matter what. Get Activision Support and have them send you a new one if hitting it on something doesn't work. Chip may be fried.

Put a Swap Force character on there (one that you don't mind losing data of), and Hot Dog.
It'll detect the SWAP Force guy as a non-working character.

This has been worrying me as of late.
They offer replacement toys at Activision Assist, but they no longer do any alter egos (ie Legendaries, Scarlet, Punch, etc). So, I am taking it these things can't last forever? If that's the case, how are we supposed to replace rare ones that go out on us? I was under the assumption these things would last forever?

It did detect as a non-working character but it didn't give me a reset option. Quote: GameMaster78
It could have been my sister as she always knocks over my Skylanders. It is just Hot Dog no one else.

Nothing lasts forever. All you can do is pray and hope that they don't get messed up when you're still playing Skylanders. |

And have a good backup program (oh wait none are sanctioned). I'm sure eventually long after this series dies they'll have a software portal that can "present" a digital version of an RFID chip to interface with the program. Considering everything being virtual these days, I wouldn't doubt it if they already have code developed to simulate all the hardware (portal and characters) without a need for them but yet intercepts and works like a real device.

RIP GhostRoaster. He's reanimated as TakeYourLemons but occasionally is resurrected from the beyond when needed. |

Activision support is very kind. It doesn't ask how it happened so your good. The only problem would be shipping, since they shop from L.A.. Aside from that, you just tell them the model number, and which character it is.

But, Eruptor, they stopped replacing Legendaries and alter egos like Jade, Scarlet, Gnarly, etc.
I'm worried what happens if you lose those?

I remember reading earlier on this forum that the average life of a skylander RIFD chip was around 16 years, so I guess they don't last forever

That's so weird because I just tried out my Fire Bone Hot Dog I got from Walmart.com 3 days ago and it didn't even register. It was completely dead like I was just setting a real all beef hot dog on there lol. I called Activision instead of going through the hassle of Walmart and my local one still doesn't have any of the new ones except the Easter packaged ones and the new Swappers, so Activision asked for the serial number underneath and my address and boom it'll bee here in 5-7 days. Try it out

Make sure it's not near another portal too.
Sometimes another portal (even if it isn't on) will interfere with the one you're using.

You basically lose them/they stop functioning. There's nothing you can do when a company decides to stop producing a limited edition figure (which is what they basically are). Just take care of them. Eventually, they'll become glorified paperweights anyways. |
