Finally real competition. This might have skylanders grow up up just a tiny bit. Not enough to lose the child like flare just enough to advance the game play into something actually difficult.

wow, the official trailer def makes it look like the "Skylanders" game-style, conceptually... but as the article says, the figure-on-portal connection is where the similarity ends; so at a closer look it's really not that comparable to the Skylanders franchise imo. There have been a plethora of games in the last year or so that have adapted the real-life figurine for video gameplay like Skylanders, all with their own unique selling point... my fav so far is easily Disney Infinity tho smilie I'll still be keeping my eye on this one too... the strong board game aspect intrigues me, it's quite an interesting concoction! lol

This won't beat Skylanders, but it might drive some more mature RPG/Fantasy fans away from Skylanders.

This seems far more like a chess game than anything skylanders. From the video you move your figures on a board and use cards to attack, I don't even see a controller being used and that alone makes it a completely different animal than skylanders.
Will this pull some people away from skylanders? I sort of doubt it but some people may play both side by side.
Will this effect sales of figures? It will greatly depend on how Prodigy is sold, it looks more like a you buy the game and get the figures, board and cards all in one box to me but I might be wrong.
Does it look cool? In concept yes but it will depend on execution as to if it will work out or not (not willing ill will here or anything but I doubt this project will see the sales floor).

I do hope to see this game at some point as it could be a lot of fun especially if you can have up to 4 people or more going at it at once (in theory you could have 1 person controlling each different figure on the board and have like an 8 way free for all)

Have an extra boomer and punch pop fizz that are opened and a darklight crypt that is still sealed for trade.

Oh man. That's what this technology should be used for. If this does well, will we be seeing some table top RPGs with Skylander elements? Like some kind of RFID Warhammer game? Think about it, you create your character in game, then you customise your figurine to look like that character (because it's what you do in Warhammer anyway) and you can use your character in both the game and in more traditional table top RPG's.

...Kind of want something like that to happen now.

Looks pretty awesome, I will definitely kickstart. Although, it seems more like competition for warhammer and warmachine than for Skylanders. Especially since it looks like the minis will be sold unpainted.

I know I am going to sound like an Al Gore-I invented the internet here, but the last couple of days as I was zipping around picking up the Wave 4 figs how it would be cool to utilize the Skylanders figures on a big board with CCG elements. Nice, but I don't want to buy another 100 figs, I want to use the ones I have.

Real men play Skylanders, at least that's what my mom tells me.
