If any variant is going to be tied to an event, it'll be Kickoff Countdown and the World Cup. However, I thought we'd see Freeze Blade alongside the Sochi Games ... and that didn't happen.

I heard that freeze blade was going to come out then but Putin wouldn't here it.

My local Target hasn't heard anything about him, so it's still probably in the air if it's even a Target exclusive this time.

I hope he comes out before I head to Japan. I only have so many fingernails left.

Hmm I guess if they were to still tie this to a holiday July 4th would make sense for the US, but what about those outside of the US?

Good question. I can see them trying for an American holiday, since both Activision and TFB are American companies, but....which if any? And when would other countries get him? I know I asked Activision to have some Jade Flashwings for Prime last time (emerald city=jade, sounded right to me!), but I somhow doubt they took it seriously for this time.....I've learned my lesson with them: from now on, don't expect them at Pax Prime....at least, not for Skylanders.....

But that brings up another possibility. Could Activision be planning to use them for a convention or a promotion with another company? I honestly hope not. That would make it that much harder to get him.

I'm hoping for no preorder hold figure bundles, unless they are like defpally said in another thread where you put a downpayment around the cost of the figure and get the figure at the same time. Thou if i had to guess kickoff countdown or lightcore bumbleblast (thou the later has been found in china).


Around July 4th is possible for JFK as it prob would hit stores in late June. I think something came out last year in June, maybe drobot s2?

Jade better not be another Frito promotion. After the last couple, I don't think I can handle another one so soon. Fright Rider didn't show up around here until just under the last month of contest, and we all know about Quickdraw. I'd rather him be a preorder bonus before a show giveaway or a contest of any kind. Use Kickoff Countdown for a convention or a promotion. I care so little about that one that I won't care if I don't get one lol.

But as matteo just pointed out he is also called world cup countdown, so the theory of him coming out for football season makes no sense what so ever.

Either way if the figure was named kickoff countdown and was made for when american football kicks off why would he not be painted brown and have the laces of an american football as opposed to the white and black patches of a football?
By that logic I could guesstimate that he will come out in in late January next year, want to know why? Because that is when the political campaigns kick off. see that's absurd but there is logic to it, this shows you can't just use what words are used for a figure but also what the figure is painted like or its other ascetics to also make assumptions as to when it will land.

Many of the soccer leagues around the world begin in September.

Anyway back on the off topic about countdown, I am almost 100% that matteo is right and they originally called him World Cup countdown but I have no links to that so it's still technically speculation.

I have a feeling it won't align directly with the World Cup, but instead will simply become available sometime late Spring or early summer, probably June around when Polar Whirlwind came out. He didn't really relate at all to anything, they just needed a new figure for people to stay excited about Skylanders. Same is true here.

My own guess is we see Jade Flashwing around mid May (around when Scarlet Ninjini came out), then Countdown in June. Wave 5 somewhere late April or early May. Come August they will want something to keep people interested prior to game four, so will probably pull out some non in-game variant or maybe put out Quickdraw Rattle Shake. It's more about marketing than anything. They need to keep people thinking Skylanders, all the more now that Infinity is on the block. Gnarly Tree Rex and Pumpkin Eye Brawl last year screamed "pay attention to us!". The first year we went from April all the way to October with no new releases (except Sidekicks and WERDS, which most people ignored). They know they cannot have a six month lag anymore, not with the competition they have now.

I have this same feeling, though why they have held Doom Stone so long is a good question. I like the idea of them having special in game variants released all the way till the next game or close to it, keeps the game fresh in peoples thoughts and all.
