are these two still insanely rare? Just wondering the chances of finding them to add to my collection.

Some ppl came across boomer back during swap force in his triple and others found darklight crypt around Halloween and some recently left overs of that. Otherwise they are rarer of the "missing 8" from SSA. However to note with skylanders 4 coming, it's possible 1 or both of them "could" return, thou no one knows as of yet.

I had to buy both from eBay.

You will be insanely lucky to find them in a store at this point. Your best course of action to get them is to either wait for game 4 and hope they are among the reposes or a more realistic option is to check your local Craigslist or EBay or maybe even yard sales for people that are just trying to get rid of their figures and happen to have those (Boomer and Ghost Roaster were very common when the first game came out, many people had them). You can then either sell off the extra stuff or keep it.

I second defpally's comment about Craigslist. In my location, there's usually a post on Craigslist about every other week where someone is selling off an entire collection and it usually has at least one of those 2 (I see ghost roaster more often than boomer). I picked up an extra one of each from different Craigslist sellers for $5 each, just so we could have another to use the other path.

My guess is ghostroaster is in more of these because he was in an adventure pack and i think DLC was the first one, correct?

Darklight Crypt and Pirate Seas were the two Adventure Packs that released at the same time as the game. Pirate Seas was significantly more popular, as I bought that for my son (back when I didn't know he would like it, so wasn't buying everything) and many of the others were getting that one as well. For a long time after Christmas all you could find was Darklight Crypt, I picked it up later when we decided to get them all at a Target since it was readily available. It cost $20 retail at the time.

Boomer was similar. I would imagine that many kids have those in their collection and you might can find one that a parent is trying to sell because their kid has moved on. More than likely you will have to buy several as a group if you go Craigslist. Most people don't want to do this one or two at a time, unless they realize those figures are rare - in which case they will probably charge a lot more.
