The commander of the Ukrainian Navy has apparently joined the pro-russian side of the conflict, and denounces the new ukrainian goverment.

Edit: The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin has agreed to open political negotiations with Ukraine.
The negotiations could potentially lead to peaceful solutions, but the future is still uncertain.

Third world war? Please.....

NO! It will be all nukes!

Do you even understand what a Nuclear Weapon does to the world? It's not like Call of Duty where you can blow one off anytime you want. You have to consider everything that might happen. It's not as easy as pressing a little button and simply shooting it off.

And it's bad for the environment. As long as it's fired somewhere with a tree within 250 miles, you can be sure as hell that tree is going to die.

Do you know how easy it is to fire off a nuke? You shouldn't ignore consequenses that you cannot forsee.

Anyhow, I don't think his comment was though out to such a extent that you need to take it completely seriously.

Ok, more news. John Kerry, the foreign minister of the United Stares plans to travel to Kiev next tuesday.

Also, an unnamed, high-ranking US official reports that russian troops have taken complete control of Crimea. He states that there is no doubt they are in Crimea with the intent of military occupation.

Russia has complete control of Crimea, and Obama says that Russia is going to face the consequences. Many theorize start of world war three.

Sorry if my posts are shorter than Samius's

I'll keep the topic updated, but sure. Just make sure the information you find is legit before posting.

Edit: Also, try to post things that haven't been posted already. And don't post rubbish like WW3 hype. The point of this topic is to inform users, not to joke around.

United States officials estimate 6,000-20,000 troops on Ukrainian soil. Most likely between 15,000 and 17,000

Sorry... you've already postedvstuff that was only released to most media mere hours ago.

"Russian President tramples upon Obama's warning. " Many believe this signifies open hostile intentions towards the US. Government (and the person who posted this) doubt that.

That's because I'm good at gathering information.

And yes, there is definetly no "open hostility". President Putin told President Obama in a phonecall that their intentions are only to protect the Russian civilians living in Ukraine, and the interests of those civilians.

Of course, that does sound like a load of BS not that Crimea has been completely occupied.

More news.

President Obama has had a discussion with the Prime Minister of Britain, the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and the President of Poland. They all agree on that Russia's actions are a threat to world peace and safety, and that Russia has broken international laws by occupying Crimea.

Edit: News time. Things are looking quieter today.

The leading industrial countries have cancelled the G8-meeting of this year, as a public statement against Russia's actions. The meeting was supposed to take place in Sochi, Russia.

The situation in the city of Simferopol itself is peaceful. People are shopping for clothes and children are playing in the parks like it was any other day. The russian soldiers have set up a recruitment center for the russian populace of Crimea. The propaganda war that started yesterday is still ongoing.

This morning russian armor has been gathering to strengthen the Crimea-Ukraine border.

Russia is also planning for another war exercise in the Kaliningrad area.

It's on, folks.

-Russian troops have given the forces of Ukraine stationed of Crimea 10 hours to surrender (until 5am of Ukraine's time) or they will attack and, effectively, start a war.
Vladimir Putin has been described by the Federal Chancellor of Germany to be "out of his mind" and "barely in touch with reality".

-Russia has also called a meeting of the United Nations Security Council. The meeting will take place today.

-Pro-russian citizens of Ukraine have forcefully taken over the city hall of Kharkiv.

Tensions are running pretty high, as you might imagine. Pretty much the entirety of the western world has condemned Russia's actions. All eyes are currently on the next meeting of the security council.
Whether tomorrow morning brings war or peace, remains to be seen.

Edit: Apparently Russia has called it's ambassador away from USA.

Even though Russia certainly is doing wrong in taking its troops into another country, there's still one point that has been a bit less in media: the fact that most of the people in that area are Russians (source for example here) which kinda makes Russia's motive to defend it's own people legit - or at least not that random. I think Russian area of Ukraine has wanted to join rather Russia than Ukraine for long but the ex-president who was friends with Russia made it ok for them as there really wasn't differences. The new lead is a lot less Russia-friendly and that's why the situation is on.

I'm not trying to defend anyone or anything but better know the reasons behind.

The Russian navy commander stationed near Crimea claims that the threats of the attack are simply rumors. The commander states that it "isn't unheard of for the media to try to get the two forces to attack each other".

Ethnic russians, yes, but not russian civilians. We're talking about (mostly, of course there are some exeptions) citizens of Ukraine who speak russian. Would Russia have a right to occypy a part of Finland if russian-speaking finns we're being discriminated here?

Besides, Russia has basically had a written, binding contract with Ukraine not to mess with it's politics, as just stated in the meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

Also, more news. Russian forces took over a border guard station on Crimea, and have started to transport more troops through it.

Edit: President Obama had a high-level meeting with his military and security advisors today. The USA has now officially ended all military-related co-operations with Russia, for now.

So far things have been calm in Crimea, no attack was initiated by Russian forces, as some believed to happen.

Ten unarmed ukrainian soldiers marched to one of the occupied airports, and demanded to be able to be able to take control of the airport with the russians. The russian forces first fired warning shots in the air, which were also the first shots fired by military forces in the Ukraine crisis. The negotiations between the two groups is still ongoing.

After days of silence, president Vladimir Putin finally held a press conference in his apartment in Moscow.

Edit: I see no sense to keep this topic updated anymore, since the initial interest for the crisis in Ukraine seems to have dwindled away. If anything big happens, I will make a post about it though.

If you still want to hear more news, look for more online. You can also ask me, as I will keep myself on the level with the current situations.
