The burden of proof is on the person making the claim.

Sounds good. So, if you (generic you) are going to make the claim that someone is a liar, you better bring the proof.

A little bummed they didn't reveal anything "new" and REALLY disappointed because Disney Infinity (the competition) didn't either...

And even after he posted the picture, some folks still basically accused him of being a liar.

Yes, but the picture was missing the most important part to prove it legitimacy. This wouldn't happen if:
1. The poster makes a more detailed post about the context in which he saw the figure instead of "I saw that."
2. The poster includes a picture in the first post showing the figure with, when possible (in this case the Toy Fair sticker), a definitive proof of its legitimacy instead of "He looks red."

If people would follow these steps instead of creating attention/drama-seeking topics, people wouldn't be negative against the posters and no one would be calling them liars.

Entitled much? No one owes you a particular posting style. No one owes you proof. Just like you don't owe anyone the benefit of the doubt. But, just because someone doesn't bend to the will of your desired posting style, it doesn't mean they're lying or that folks should accuse them of it with ZERO proof.

Quote: defpally
That is merely a suggestion on how to avoid negativity, or skepticism - not a demand or entitlement. Either you provide evidence, or you get people that don't believe you (and sometimes that happens even with evidence). Choose option A or option B. Don't get bent out of shape if you can't have both.

The burden of proof is on the person making the claim.

Like defpally said, they are guidelines to help avoid conflicts, not strict rules I'm requiring to please me. Anyway, I'm gonna start a thread soon about a golden Pop Thorn coming soon, but I don't have pictures to show and I'm not telling where I got this info. I hope you'll be excited about it since you have no proof I'm lying smilie

Again, you try to turn it around on the respondent. You don't normally get called a liar unless you make an initial claim. "Prove me wrong" is not a valid response - prove yourself right. Now you can "tone police" all you want and say there are ways to disagree that are better and more courteous than others and that's all fine, but you cannot shift the burden of proof. The claim is not whether you are a liar or not, that is the response.

There is a teapot revolving around the sun between Mars and Jupiter. You cannot disagree without proving to me that there is not. Obviously, you cannot prove that wrong, so by default if I make a claim that cannot be proven wrong definitively then I am right or at least have an equally valid viewpoint? Obviously not.

This is a logical fallacy used often by the anti-science/fundamentalist crowd as a response to scientific theory. Not saying you necessarily subscribe to that, but it is a similar debate style. Ken Ham used it extensively against Bill Nye in the recent creationism debate, hence why he performed so poorly.

And also, thanks to a friend, I found out that there were 2 new characters at the Mega Bloks display.

I was gonna complain about how US are always the only one eligible to this kind of giveaway/promotions, but it is very unlikely that I would win anyway.

For the record, they weren't particularly fond of press, and didn't really want to give the Dune Bugs to them. I wasn't able to make an appointment (I was only to attend yesterday) and begged and eased for a fig (I have all TF and e3 figs so far), but to no avail. I had the good fortune of meeting the VP of licensing of Activision while hanging out with my friends from Megabloks, and asked her why the difficulty in getting a fig, and she seemed surprised. She gave me her card and told me to go back to their booth and drop her name and ask for one, and they obliged. If not for that, I wouldn't have gotten one. Even Friends who did have appointments weren't given them either. My friend gave them an earful, and wound up with one. They seemed more interested In giving them to the "buyers" (the reps from TRU, Walmart, etc.). Most of them looked perplexed that they were given one, and probably have no appreciation of them. The ones you see on eBay are probably all theirs.

I will say one nice thing about their display - there were 5 display cases with various Skylanders in them - some chase variants (blurple eye brawl), store exclusives (jade flashwing), in-game variants (scarlet ninjini), and regular figs. But there was a Red Dune Bug and a clear red Camo in the case.

Maybe they're trying to actually make these chase variants. Curious how many were made.

Why would I be excited? I don't get excited - one way or the other - when people post stuff on here without proof. Unlike those who get their heart rate going because someone dared post something in a way that doesn't appease them.

No, I'm not saying that you or anyone is "right" without presenting proof. I never said that and you're twisting what I'm saying. I don't know if you're doing it because you're honestly confused or if you're doing it in purpose because you just can't really back up your claims of "it's okay to accuse people of lying with absolutely no evidence that they're actually not telling the truth." Honestly, I don't really care why you're doing it.

More to your point - your little story is based off the idea that you're making a claim that cannot be proven wrong. This is in NO WAY WHATSOEVER equatable to what we've seen over and over here. Like this most recent incident - the claim of the Red Dune Bug could be proven wrong by waiting LESS THAN A WEEK. But nooo... instead, let's accuse someone of lying (again, with absolutely no evidence) and just be general a-holes about it.

Look at it this way... let's say he *was* lying about the Red Dune Bug. "Who was harmed here---some six year olds who went to bed crying because there's no Red Dune Bug given away to a very small set of people that most likely wouldn't have included them anyway?"

And let's say he's telling the truth... with so many people jumping down his neck, all you're doing is chasing away folks providing good information to the general forums. And let me assure you, lesty isn't the only one who has stopped just posting early info on the general forums. There's a small handful of us that trade info here and there outside the forums because of how many a-holes there are on here. I usually know TRU Skylanders sales 4 weeks or so in advance thanks to one guy who no longer posts here.

Uncle,New,Def if you would like to continue arguing stupidly about spilled milk that is now so old it has spoiled, please take it elsewhere. I would much rather have people posting false pictures and claims than seeing people argue. Many good people have gotten driven away from here because of stuff like this. Remember kids get on here. What do you think they learn when they see this stuff. Be general doubters?! Don't accuse people when you have no proof yourself. Uncle bob in general, I don't understand your doubtfulness. Just stop, please I'm begging you. I will not be involved in your stupid, childish argument so if anyone has a reply to this I will not reply back. This is a Toy Fair News Topic, if you have nothing productive or speculative to add, please remove yourself from this thread and go about you bickering elsewhere.

Why is this the official Toy Fair thread again? Why can't folks use one of the previous Toy Fair threads to post news in? Why do you feel that folks should be forced to use your thread? Additionally, if you want to talk about not adding anything to the thread, let's look at the OP itself. It's all "Here's a thread to talk about Toy Fair" and brings NOTHING to the table. It doesn't post the dates of Toy Fair, what it is, what kinds of stuff has been revealed at previous Toy Fairs, stuff that we *already* knew (like that Activision didn't plan to show off Sky4, the Red Dune Bug speculation, etc.). The OP was pretty much "I want to be the first poster in what I hope will be a popular thread."

But, just to please you... Could there be a third entry (not counting the putter that was Pokemon Rumble) in the Toys-to-Life category?

Speculation today that Nintendo might be making a surprise showing of something at Toy Fair. I'm doubtful though. smilie

Why does it matter!? Why do you care?! I don't really care if it's a populate thread or not. Your not me, so stop acting like you know my motives for everything. This was just ment as a actors tab. A file folder if you will, not an Everything We Know About The New York Toy Fair 2014 topic. I actually want to make the next everything we know topic, and if I happen to get that honor I will do it properly. This was a mere organizer. I didn't use the old topics because honestly that's more work and doesn't pertain to the 2014 Toy Fair.

The reds look a lot brighter than I initially thought, as evidenced through the eBay links I've reviewed.

I know Skylander Dad is trying to make it exciting with the videos, but it's basically wave 4 gameplay videos. Cool and all, but not exactly what I was hoping for.

Springtime will be my last Trigger Happy purchase. I felt very silly doing quests for 5 Eruptors.

I was going to let all this go, but I will say this. Yes, I hope "the kids" learn to become generally more skeptical. We, as a society, need that. We need people to stop believing things just because they read it on the Internet. People simply don't understand that a slick website, a forum post that sounds good or a YouTube video are evidence of ANYTHING. We are becoming far more gullible every single day. We need people to ask questions and stop accepting things as fact just because. Just look at the proliferation of absolutely insane conspiracy theories floating around.

And as a personal note, no, I do not weep for "the people that get run off". If a little debate and skepticism makes you weak at the knees, don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out. Even at our worst debate, Unclebob and the others are still very PG compared to the rest of the Internet. We NEVER resort to cursing or inappropriate topics or themes. We KNOW children might read what we say. The WORST you can say is it sometimes goes a little off topic, but it also keeps things lively. Boring, information only, heavily moderated forums do not generate nearly as much interest or traffic as ones that have healthy debate. Yes, someone with real info might wander off, but you know what, someone with real info that gets annoyed with people throwing around random hearsay and the one thousand and one "Official" threads might stick around if the quality, reliability and thoughtfulness of posting improves.

Some of the kids here even make up speculations and others would just believe them right out of the bat even though they have no official source to back them up. Like a few days ago when some kids thought Skylanders 4 would be revealed at Toy Fair even after it was confirmed that it won't. Other kids believed them, and look what happened, they all got disappointed.

Bingo. And it helps parents because it prevents those trips searching for things that don't exist or aren't out yet. Many kids (and adults, too!) will read something and start scouring the stores or have Dad run by three stores after work or stand out front of TRU the next day. And many times rumors become "fact" because people want to believe it, and then reference each other for proof. How many people were convinced Wave 3 was coming out prior to Black Friday because HDRoom made an offhand guess? It isn't even because people are trying to be deceptive, they hear something from an employee or friend that is making a guess then pass it on. It's like that old game where a line of people would whisper something in the ear of the person next to them and then everyone would laugh at how mangled it got by the last person. My mom gets chain emails all the time from a crazy right wing cousin of hers. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff she thinks is true because someone wrote a convincing sounding email or linked a YouTube video. She is a very smart, logical person too - it isn't like she is just some rube.

No, don't outright distrust everyone. But, do factor in reputation, plausibility, history, details, competing information and yes, images. Many people do not do that.

Well I suppose as the Toy Fair is over there's no point in keeping this topic open is there? Unless Mateo has anything on that second mystery Skylander.

I believe it's over on the 19th.

So, this is all we get for the Toy Fair this year? I'd call it a major bust for fans.

I would much rather have people posting false pictures and claims than seeing people argue. Many good people have gotten driven away from here because of stuff like this. Remember kids get on here. What do you think they learn when they see this stuff. Be general doubters?!

/CLAPS Agreed.

Agree with this. But, on the same token, you can't (shouldn't?) live your life thinking everyone out there is lying to you and out to get you. That's no way to live. Blind faith is just as dangerous as blind trust.

As for the part about not weeping for those who leave... I don't "weep" for them either. Seriously, they're probably better off being away from the a-holes around here who are just going to be a jerk to them for no real reason. I weep for those of us on the forum that will no longer benefit from having them share their knowledge and experience with us all. I mean, sure, we'll get the same information eventually... but it's often handy to have some of this information in advance. You (not generic you) may not care about getting this kind of info ahead of time, but I (and others on the forum) do.

I agree with both of you.

Not to pick arguments but it's kindah impossible to say something a certain way on the web. Unless you speak fluent emoticons, which I do not. I can however do this smilie

Oh trust me, there's a web version equivalent of this. I can say you're a liar and you would never know it.

For example: "That's great information if it's true; can you corroborate that with additional content?" can replace "You lie. Deleting topic."

I believe he was referring to the "choice of words"

One can say, "I'm skeptical. You don't have any solid proof." Another can say, "whatever, Buddy. Where's your proof? Gtfo of here with your BS, you liar."

Correct; it wasn't meant to be a literal translation. Thank you for using the space between your ears.

Sadly, it's not only what you write that can be taken a certain way, but the tone. Ask 20 people to read the same paragraph and you'll hear several different tones. Some might think it's meant to be sarcastic, or arrogant, or hysteric. You bring your own assumptions to bear in anything you read. I've been told that some people find proper english writing to be snobby and rude, even if the tone of the author was anything but. Have you ever texted someone a cute comment, only to find their response very....angry? And then you have to backpedal and explain that no, of course you didn't mean it that way, it was only a cute comment....omg you didn't mean to make them cry! Wait....don't be mad! Yeah. It happens. And it makes internet conversations rather tricky, especially if you're dealing with a sensitive topic in the first place.
