As much as I very much wish for our privacy to be regained, the government is pretty good at keeping things under wraps for decades. Chances are that even if they are pressured to shut down this program, they either have another one that will do the same thing waiting in the wings, or they will even outright lie to us about shutting it down, and continue spying on us in quiet until someone else decides to be a whistleblower.

In a world who's global and national policies have, like it or not, been shaped by 9/11, 7/7, Boston, and other terrorist attacks, nations such as the US think that creating a mass surveillance state and putting it in the hands of everyday people is the way to stop terrorism from happening on local soil. As much as I would love this to not be true, this sort of thing probably isn't gonna change until the government gets a major overhaul (as in, most of the people in office leave office) and the "need" to spy on people to prevent terrorism becomes a thing of the past. Not much else is going to change their minds, especially once they realize the kind of power they really have.

And sad to say, but 270k people rallying against this in a nation of 300+ million isn't going to do much.

EDIT 2: But what if I send the email and then they see my address, my name, and my address and decide to spy on me harder?

That's a long and complicated process that I still don't get to the fullest extent.

You should probably search for a video or article explaining how they collect your data.
