Yeah, lately my PC has been turning off randomly. It is a HP Pavilion Media Center m8000n TV PC. I honestly don't know what is going on, and my dad is baffled too. Please, help please.

Is it possible that it may be overheating?
How long does it stay on for? |

Check event viewer to see if it logged the reason for shutting down.

This, is it a laptop? ( me stupid) You can't use an HP Laptop on you're actual lap, you need a hard surface. This helps prevent over-heating.

Let me explain. This an HP Desktop. And it usually stays on for about 10-15 minutes before it powers off. And it is actually quite quiet before it does, so I don't think it is overheating, but it could be for some reason.

It's either overheating or one of your vital components is dying.

I had a similar problem with that, but my computer would crash and black out after 20 or so minutes.

You should consider taking it to the Geek Squad.
And why is this in Video Gaming?

You might have some Malware / viruses. Check that first...otherwise yes it may be an overheating/failing component.

What changes have you made to it recently? (if you have made any at all), also assuming it's Windows 7 your using, is it the 32 bit or 64 bit version?, on one of my older computers it started shutting down randomly since I was using a 64 bit version of Windows 7, switched to a 32 bit version and it was fine.

This would go in the Software Help topic. It's stickied.

That strikes me as a bad thing. If your computer is quieter than usual, some of the fans might not be working which would probably cause it to overheat. |

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.
Right now, the computer is making some sort of buzzing noise every so often. And now, thanks to bionicle's post, I think it might have something to do with the fan. But, it could also be something involving a virus. Every time my mom goes on sites on her account, that is when it usually shuts off. My dad should check it out. He already done a quick virus scan. He didn't have the time to delve into it. I'll ask him to check the fans. |

Is it Windows 8, because if you haven't updated to 8.1, or the product key hasn't been entered, it is meant to restart every two hours...

Thanks for the tip, but the issue has already been solved. My dad went into the computer and found some leaking capacitors in the motherboard. I think that is what done it. So, we got a replacement, and it is still running like a charm.
