Nope. Maybe? Not sure. But if Strong Bad said it, I'm assuming that he stole it from Bubs' intro video. Or maybe Bubs stole it from Strong Bad. Or maybe I need to watch more of the clips. There's one thing I'm sure of, and that's the word that best describes me is: personality. |

No, I'm pretty sure I can't remember anything before 2011. >.> Even still, at least those games don't require me to pay extra for A) achieving 100% completion, B) accessing side-areas in levels that are already programmed into the game, and C) EXTRA LIVES (not that you're likely to end up getting the 3 original starters KO'd, but still, that's the basic premise).

So far, this topic has gone from "Why all the hate for the Skyro's???" to "Who's better classic or skylands?!". XP (I personally find them all to be equal in "awesomeness, btw-*Shot for continuing the off-topicness)

A ) 100% of what? I mean, I know that there are a few hats you'll miss. Will you miss the hats that much? Do you love hats? You get a fairly massive game that you can enjoy at your leisure - with as many or as few characters as you'd like. B ) They're tiny little areas to reward people with lots of toys, not vital story sections - Unlike every other modern game that fleeces you for every additional story DLC. Is your problem that the DLC is on disk? Because that's just required because kids and young families. It's no different to DLC in every other game - only this game lets you sell the DLC when you tire of it or lend the DLC to a friend. Skylanders - DLC done right! C ) I'm sorry, I can't hear you over how much fun I'm having and my excitement over the new game latter this year. Because there is a new one coming out. Because this franchise is still insanely popular. When was the next 'normal' Spyro game coming out again? What's that? Ooooh. Never? Because no one cares about Spyro anymore? Man, sorry I brought it up. You seem like you're cool guy who's pretty on to it... but for anyone lurking a reminder: Hyperbole for comedy - not serious... not personal... good times for all... having fun... all friends here... etc |

What I don't get are people who say the game is expensive. (Starter Deck) You get a $60 game with figures that cost about $7-15 dollars in it. If anything you pay less then more.

Here normal games are $100 (about $80us) to $130, so $120 for Skylanders is just another game.
That's not even including sales. When I got into it I got the first game for $30. And figures can get expensive… if you have to have all of them and have them right away. Get them 2nd hand or on sale, and you’ll have more than you need for next to noting… and a few cool toys you can display on your desk. |

I don't really care because I'm the guy who hold the opinion Insomniac was getting screwed by Universal (as Naughty Dog was) and they went on to make the much better Ratchet & Clank and Resistance games and Sunset Overdrive looks decent too. I just really hope ActiBlizz takes their smart pills and doesn't run this franchise into the ground like they've gone with many of their other IPs. I'm already worried because they're treating it identically to Call of Duty, pumping out 1 game a year with 2 developers working simultaneously. If there's any way to get people to turn on your franchise, it's to ram it down our throats. <.<

Then there's those big time collect that collect every counterpart known to the game. If you recycle your series 1 Skylanders and only buy the actual new skylanders (like Flashwing and such) and continue to use the recycle pattern with your new skylanders you'd probably save a lot. Or just have one of each element skylander that you like and having one of each element different type from regular skylanders, like giant and swapforce. And recycle those for when you play the future games of Skylanders. Or if you missed a few skylanders that were made in series 1, but were redone in the other series. Buy the one that's more current so you can leave the store satisfied instead of having to go on amazon just for a lot more expensive series 1 figure. Sorry if off topic, but you can just skip the counterparts and redo's and save you the holes in the wallets.

Well since Malefor is mentioned in a few of the Skylander's biographies. It might be a nice change to have the undead dragon lord as antagonist instead of invader kaos. Though I don't know what happened in the end of SwapForce (I don't want it spoiled). Though the only issues are buying the characters (Ripto, Gnasty Gnorc, and such). And when I think about the Gameplay of Skylanders right now it's actually quite like classic in a way. You got one button to press for fire balls and ramming when playing Spyro. Though if it were like fanart like this where it's still classic Spyro, but with other Skylander characters as side characters: (Sorry for page stretch) ![]() ![]() ![]() But had such twisted actual good dark Tales with it involving some of the LoS characters making them less cardboard characters. That would actually be probably one of best Spyro games. If it were to happen.

At the risk of this turning into a real discussion (instead of me winding up old-school fans), I've thought for some time that there's a way to have their cake and eat it too - I'd love to see an Adventure pack (add-on level) portal that would send Spyro 'home'.
The add-on packs often have a gimmick, so make the gimmick for this one be recreating areas from the older games gameplay wise. Future (Classic) Spyro could seek a young Skyro's help to stop a future self that's lost himself to Dark Spyro, and while any Skylander could play, they could give Skyro special dialog. Hell - you could even mix up the endings with one ending for a standard Skylander, one ending for Skyro (talk future Spyro into abandoning the dark) and one ending for Dark Skyro (teach Spyro to control the dark). New figures could be classic Spyro NPCs, magic items could be classic powerups. And if they do well it could kickstart a classic Spyro revival. And if the revival had to have a Skylander connection they could just use them as summonable power-ups/npc/companions that would follow along and attack enemies without fecking with gameplay. |

To me, Skylanders is an ok game series. They aren't bad games by any means but they don't do a whole lot that's new or different, and hardly change (I finally tried Swap Force; not that much was different).
If they were budget games I would be fine with it and I would even buy them to play and complete. But they cost so much more than a normal game, especially if you want to complete the game 100% legitimately, even if only needing one of each element. I cannot see myself throwing down $100+ (again) for what is a decent game when I would be hard-pressed to do so for even my all time favorites. In the end, the original games as well as LoS had more to give me than Skylanders did. The original Spyro games are platforming greats, and LoS is at least interesting in the sense that it's both a good and mediocre trilogy that still polarizes me to this day and gets me thinking sometimes. Skylanders is just................there.........sucking money out of wallets. And frankly people who DO buy all of them (and more) and then take this negative opinion as me being jealous of all of their Skylanders; rather than being baffled at how wasteful they are of their money; are pathetic and shouldn't belong neither here nor in their own section. Older users, or even some that are familiar with the Skylanders sections, will know exactly who I'm talking about. And people like them are why I stopped bothering with the section. |

![]() ![]() Seriously, I tend to enjoy aRPGs more than platformers, so that’s probably a contributing factor of my Skylanders love. And I never really even enjoyed Spyro back when the games were new, so I’ve got no rose-tinted nostalgia goggles when looking back. The goofy art-design and simplistic gameplay didn’t really compare to the stuff I was playing on the PC at the time. Skylanders, apart from the mare fact it’s Dibalo-lite (which is cool by itself), is also helped by characters that feel very different and have so little overlap in skill/ability. There are two figures that (imho) do replicate each other too much – but other than that the characters all play very differently. That makes hand picking a small team to play through the game with a real joy. |
