Guys, I read an interesting fact:
Meowth was planned to be playable in the first game.
He would technically be a villain, because Pikachu and Meowth are eternal Rivals.
I think it would be cool to play as meowth.

Playing as Meowth would have been cool, I like the guy. Though he's most likely never going to make it into a Smash Bros. game now, especially with all the other choices for Pokémon to be playable.

I am fine with Lucario coming back, but I was hoping today they would bring back my favorite character from Brawl

Lately I've been noticing a lot of people getting all entitled about what characters should and shouldn't make it in. Not even just over Lucario, but even people claiming Rosalina doesn't deserve a spot because she apparently hasn't got a lot of personality or backstory (even though she has plenty of both).

It's silly, everyone seems to devise their own set of rules for who should and shouldn't get in. I mean, anyone who thinks depth of character is a deciding factor for Smash clearly hasn't been playing past installments. Or even been noticing that Wii Fit Trainer is in the new game.

^O completely agree with this, it's not the people who decide who gets in it's the developers and if they can work the character into the Smash Universe

I agree as well. I feel this would have been a perfect time to reveal him. An issue of hard work.I feel because of his history with Nintendo, and being a symbol of their beginning, well... Ultimately the choice is up to the developers like you said. It just felt like a good moment to me.

Actually, I'm willing to bet Mewtwo (or a Pokémon newcomer, provided we get one instead. I'm kinda betting Mewtwo will just be returning, rather than giving us a newcomer) will not be announced until all other Pokémon characters are revealed.

Notice how all of the Mario veterans, DK, and Kirby were announced well before Rosalina's reveal. The reason for this is because they wanted to create that fake-out trailer that initially looked like a new Kirby's Air Ride game, then it looked like Kirby was a special guest in Mario Kart 8, and then BOOM! - "Rosalina & Luma launch into battle!".

Finally, after all of this Pokémon news, Iwata presents one final Pokémon trailer for this Nintendo Direct.

The trailer starts off with an outside view of a cave. It then zooms to the inside. Pokémon Trainer is trying to catch a Pikachu and a Jigglypuff, using Squirtle. Pikachu and Jigglypuff had been chased into the cave. After a bit, Lucario jumps in and challenges Pokémon Trainer. Pikachu and Jigglypuff join Lucario, and Pokémon Trainer sends out Ivysaur and Charizard to make it an even sided-battle. They fight for a bit, but suddenly, a gigantic Shadow Sphere comes hurtling through, wrecking everything in sight. Lucario notices, and grabs Pikachu and Jigglypuff, taking them out of harms way. Ivysaur grabs Squirtle by the tail and avoids the attack, and Charizard grabs Pokémon Trainer, and flys him up to safety. There is a lot of dust and rubble left in the wake of the attack. A figure can be seen behind the dust. Pokémon Trainer and his team are about to move forward and examine, and Pikachu and Jigglypuff playfully scamper along. Lucario senses an evil aura, as he sees the figure with a red aura. Lucario is alarmed, and takes a protective stance in front of everyone else.

The dust subsides, and the figure behind it is clear. Suddenly...

BOOM!

I was thinking of a trailer for Little Mac:

It starts out with a far view of NYC. It fades away, and appears in front of a building called "World Circuit Boxing League". It cuts off to inside the the building; a large boxing ring in the center of a room filled with people.

Sonic and Mario are both fighting in the ring. There's a huge crowd, cheering them on (not visible). Sonic is whizzing around the arena, trying to get in the right attack, and Mario is trying to punch him.

They both stop, looking at a shadowy figure in the distance.

The crowd starts wondering what happened, then suddenly, a huge walkway lights up, and Little Mac is standing there, smirking.

"Little Mac uppercuts into the fight!"

The crowd goes wild. Sonic and Mario get into a fighting stance, but Mario smirks.

Mac runs down the walkway and jumps into the ring, while the crowd chants his name.

*cuts to gameplay*

I find this screenshot way funnier than I should. I am loving the facial expressions in this game. I was worried about Sonic's before, but they seemed to have improved it.

It looks like they're basing him more off the classic arcade game and the SNES game instead of the NES/Wii ones, except for Giga Mac.

He looks like loads of fun to play as.
