I had called on Sunday and a phone rep placed my order for my free Gill Grunt. it arrived today in a padded envelope. The dome was caved in, but popped out and looks perfect with a simple squeeze... not that it will be left in the package around this house.

I'll be surprised if my Gill Grunt's head is still attached...that's my expectation. Wish they could've spent .30 on a box. I should have one in a box with other stuff I got...I expect my "freebie" to be bounced around on my doorstep like Ace Ventura... Maybe my expensive boxed versions I got will still be valuable after all roflmao.

I called on Sunday, rep ordered my free one for me, arrived today. Padded envelope with dome caved in, popped it out but still permanently dented. Honestly, I don't care, it's coming out of the package anyway, but I can see someone making a fuss out of it if they care.

Had to call but it got taken care of. I followed 301's instructions, but the guy did comment that it had only been a few moments between the two calls...
In any case he helped me out and was really nice. Now I just have to hope the mail doesn't destroy it before it can arrive. |

Mine came, in an envelope. Small indention on the bubble which popped out and left a small mark. I like they did this online so you don't have to deal with stores getting it in and such, but the TRU envelope thing is really dumb. You can pretty much count on package damage coming from TRU, and given the "collectible" nature of this figure they are just cheaping out.
Figure looks really cool, he looks more bronze than green though, maybe just my lighting. |

I just got my gill grunt from TRU!........of course stuffed in a padded envelope and of course dented. Managed to pop out the dent but still a hefty mark in the plastic!!....so friggin annoying as I do not understand how they can possibly think this is an ok way to ship these! Imagine having to pay their ridiculous $8.99 shipping fee for this crap!

This is the worst thing about what TRU does with their shipping. They did it with SSA (i ordered L-Triggs) and they did it with Giants (I ordered L-Stealth). I've called and told them both times about it, and they always say "oh yes, we've received many calls about these problems so we'll be sure to make a note of that for future purchases." Well, apparently not. Actually the worst thing was when I ordered Dragons Peak from TRU. Luckily my cousin was working there at the time and set aside one for me, but the one that came through the mail got damaged enough that they actually had to discard it at one of the receiving facilities...

My Gill Grunt just arrived in the nefarious bubble envelope. There's 2 minor dents in the dome, but it looks fine otherwise.
I find it odd that Frito Lay, a potato chip company, is better at shipping toys out than Toys R Us is. |

Okay so I emailed toys R us just to voice my concern about their shipping methods. I was not looking to return the figure I had received but just to ask why they continue to ship items in bubble mailers. I just received an email back from them saying that they had ordered a replacement figure and that I didn't need to return the original one!!....lol. Go figure...... Don't ask for a return get a return! Guess I will have two now both with crumpled packaging probably...lol

If you call in (and, better if you're kind and cordial about it) they should send you out a brand new one. The woman I just got off the phone with was very nice and said you should get it very shortly. I didn't specifically mention a box, but I kind of assume they're sending it in one.

That's because they care. You can still call and get them to ship a replacement in a box though if you're unhappy. I find it funny how they didn't do that in the first place, given they've got so many people angry at them. The last thing you wanna do when someone is angry at you is make it worse! I suspect the envelopes are cheaper for them to use overall than boxes. Oh well, one good thing for collectors: Your pristine Special Gill Grunt in box will be worth more, from sheer scarcity. >.>

This is kinda interesting. I'm sure a few people may know, but if you didn't:
This special Gilly comes up in game as a plain jane S1 Gill. In fact, the Gamepad image uses the S1 Gill image. Coincidentally, I checked over with my Special Cynder and Special Sonic Boom, and both also use the respective S1 character artwork. Also, curiously enough, Gilly resisters as a Blue Base Water Skylander. Which was perfect for me as I talked about in another thread, my entire collection won't register for any of the stars going towards Portal Master Rank. With the ones I purchased since then, I was missing a Water Skylander with a blue base, but Gilly does the job and got me that beautiful star I was missing.

I got mine today in a envelop. I swear, the people who are shipping these, just got off the turnip truck. Its common sense. I told the rep that these are collectables to a lot of people and for them to just throw it in. A envelope is not using common sense. This is the second time they did this and what they charge in shipping fees, they ought to be in a box. Oh well, lets see if they ever improve.

Their shipping reminds me of an eBay noob who doesn't provide good customer service. Oh well...I'll get my stuff tomorrow. We'll see what TRU did for me hehe. Quote: Matteomax

Aren't they shipping these for free? They are giving something away for free, it already isn't cost effective, shipping over 1000 of these things in boxes for free isn't cheap, and TRU can be very cheap. Frito Lay at least charged $2.50 for S&H. which paid for a small box. TRU doesn't spend any more money on this promo.
I also hate receieving my skylanders in a bubble mailer, but I understand why they are doing it.

Not trying to sound condescending or anything, im just curious. Because it looks like Kartoon took a wrong approach to it and got a shipping refund, even though they were free shipping?

Simply call them up and let them know politely that the item came damaged in the mail. You can go into detail about what happened to it If you want too. I didn't have to demand them to send me a new one,its just kind of obvious if you call in about it being damaged.
I mentioned that they did this before and that sending them in envelopes there's not much protection and the woman I talked to said she totally understood. As long as you talk to them nicely about it, they should have no problem sending you a new one if it comes damaged.

Ok I'll try, hopefully it works still since I was refunded the $7 shipping fee. I'm always very polite on the phone with Costumer Service, I understand they can usually have a pretty bad day and feel bad that people treat them like stupid machines. Some lady seemed really rude during one of my calls to another company and I snapped a little at her for how she was treating me and I appoligized because I was having a bad day, she also appoligized and was that much more helpful because of it. Don't judge a book by the first chapter

I also offered to send a pic if at all possible to prove my case lol, she was very kind and I didn't even know she was setting it up to send me a new one until after she said she was giving me a reference number. Didn't take but 5 minutes Thanks Again guys. I was told how someone called just to cuss them out and say that "the service was horrible, they deserved the promised item, and how they wanted it immediately"
Don't worry about it all, you will get your gill-grunt eventually. and even if you don't, it really isn't worth potentially bringing someone else to tears by stress.

Totally get the "do unto others" stuff, but in fact people are entitled to this as per the promotion. It's normal and human to be upset but that's also not an excuse to give the folks on the front lines grief. Be patient, but be firm on your stance...like 99% of us did, and everyone will be fine.
Bahamut and others have spent considerable more time so that others could get through the maze of confusion. I don't think I've spent more than 10 minutes tops on this myself...and I didn't get the coupon. I also expected inferior shipping and was in fact planning on it so I could have an excuse to open it... I'm a bit saddened by how this promotion was executed, and then of course the salt on the wound with the shipping. I still believe TRU totally rocks for skylanders, but it's better not to order online.

@GhostRoaster Buying online is fine...as long as you don't buy just one thing. Does anyone else's brows raise that they "can't afford to box it" but they're willing to send 1 or even in some cases 2 replacements for each broken one for free? Doesn't that suggest that the shipping is likely peanuts to them, and that boxing it isn't as impossible for them as they make it seem? I wonder what the real reason is....it can't be that they just didn't buy that size, or they wouldn't have any to ship the replacements. I wasn't automatically suspicious, but with all that's happened, it seems very very odd. Probably something simple and very stupid though. I doubt they'd conspire to make everyone miserable, or they'd never stay in business...

Well, after calling and following the steps outlined in post 301, I received my free gill grunt (I spent over $200 on skylanders stuff, all on sale, at TRU this holiday season) and I didn't even take it out of the mailbox because my son is always excited to check the mail. I called and complained that the item was damaged in shipping, I was really nice, but let the guy know this was a collectors item and it was important that I have it in good condition, I also requested a new one in a box. He put in an order for a new one, and requested it in a box, but couldn't promise it would actually come in a box. So, now I get a second one, for free, to give to my nephews, and my son gets his as well. I feel a little dirty but they have to be making a killing on this little plastic things anyway so, I guess I'll get over it.
