With February 1st and, hopefully, a new update, just over a week away, I'm trying to decide if I should be spending my gems on 1/2 off companions while I still can, or saving them to see what new things might be coming out.

I got Diggs on January first and he has, obviously, helped my gem production. I have at least one of every type of house and estimate my daily gem generation is around 100.

Through the 50% off daily sales, I've been able to get Gorm & Tuk, Ermit, Quigley, and Arbo. Would love Ol'Mac, but, even at 50% off, I didn't have enough gems, so jumped on the 50% off Arbo instead. My energy levels have now stabilized, so he's working out for me.

At this point, the only companions I'm missing are:

Flynn - Don't think I care about faster adventures, because I've got more gold than I can spend anyway
Cali - Again, what would I do with more gold?
Cherry - Have more wish stones than I can spend, so I don't think I care about her either

Fiznik - would be nice to cycle to the gem reward faster, so Kingdom Exp is interesting, but even at 1/2 off, I won't be able to afford within a week
Tessa - might be nice for having more space, but again too expensive for within a week
Ol' Mac - again would be nice, but I won't be able to afford

Wheellock - skylander experience, seems useless to me, but I can afford at 1/2 off
Avril - kudos seem useless, but again, I can afford at 1/2 off

Given that Wheellock and Avril are the only 2 remaining companions that I expect to be able to afford before the daily 50% off offers go away, I'm wondering if I should buy them the next time they come up (and Wheellock is available again today).

I have all skylanders, and they are all already level 13 or higher. So I don't see the point of getting them all to 15 any faster. But, if they change the skylanders to be like the kingdom, where you can keep refilling the last bar and getting more gems, Wheellock would suddenly become much more interesting. And part of me just wants all companions eventually, just to be complete.

At the moment, Avril appears to be useless, but I have to believe they have some grand plan in the works for Kudos. Why add a currency, add 2 separate companions to boost collection of that currency, then provide nothing to spend it on? I feel like they must have some plan that just hasn't been released yet.

So, do I buy Wheellock today and Avril if she comes up again at 50% off? Just because they are on sale, I can afford them, and they might be beneficial with future changes?

Or do I save my gems, so I have ~1300 on hand on the 1st in case there is an update and that update has something cool to jump on?

Why do you think the offers are going away? Even if they do, I think you can still look forward to the occasional sale.

I think that either the app is on auto-pilot, in which case the offers will remain, or it will go back to the type of daily deals that it had before the holidays. Things like 50% off the Beach House, and specific items like that. Yes, companions went on sale too, and I expect will again, but not with the same frequency that they are now.

Assuming they are continuing to support the game, they need to make money off of it. They get money by enticing players to buy gems. If houses and companions, the two top categories of gem-cost items, are on sale indefinitely like they are now, no one has incentive to spend money and jump on the sale while they can - they can just wait and save up.

So I guess, for the sake of the game, I hope the offers go away.

I'm still half convinced that there's never anything more to come. I certainly hope I'm wrong. I guess I'd save to see if they add a new skylander to the well next week or if we're really at the end of active support. If it's the latter, the 50% companion sales will continue. If it's the former, hopefully there will be new things to spend gems on. I'm not a huge fan of running balloon adventures but I also am not a fan of unleveled skylanders, so I like wheellock and flynn. Tessa and Fiznik are on my target list as soon as I build sufficient gems.

I've been thinking the same thing. I currently have over 1900 gems and have debated on getting, at least, Tessa while the personal offers were going. The only companions left that I need are her, Batterson and Avril. At this point I have no interest in Batterson or Avril, but to get a complete collection, I might just get them, anyway. Tessa has some point, so I might be willing to buy her at 1/2 off. Avril may come in handy if they ever do anything more with kudos. I never visit, so Batterson would never be worth anything except to get the complete collection, so he would be the last I would buy. He might be a waste, but I might be willing to spend 100 gems just to have everyone. I've had enough to get Tessa for several days, but kept holding off in case they do release an update so I don't miss out on whatever else we may have coming our way. Now that I have 1900+, it's tempting to go ahead and get Tessa when she is 50% off and still have 400+ for anything they add (hoping it's not more than a few hundred gems). I'm in the belief that they will release an update next week or near the beginning of the month. I haven't given up on them, and since they just released the game on Android (and I'm pretty sure working on a Kindle version), I don't see support stopping already. I was about to give up hope until someone mentioned they did the same thing last year, and they did release a minor update to fix EotD, so it shows they are back at work.

I hope you're wrong, but I think the same as you, the developers seem to have stopped supporting this game.
Returning to the subject of the companions, I think the most interesting is Fiznik, I took more ir less 2 days to fill the XP bar and obtain 10 gems.
(In the case it comes something to buy - I hope)
