Skylanders Figure Tool for Windows

Either buy Giants on a game platform to reset...or contact Activision for a replacement. In my opinion, I'd dump the PC version---you're going to have a lot of potential corruption problems. Yes your suggestions to have a tool etc makes sense...but from their perspective that's three generations old and they've "moved on"...heck we can't even get patches for the latest game.

the pc version has problems when youre computer isnt like 100% working perfectly. you get delayed writes on your figures. causing corruption A LOT. i know this from personal experience. my suggestion is to update all of your drivers. use a computer that has the minimum requirements, maybe even suggestion requirements. and also shutting down all the background programs that can cause trouble. mostly anti virus stuff. but there are others.
from what i remember about pyros app is that it can detect and even fix the corrupted characters

if you are buying figures that are broken. then you are in for a world of hurt. you probably need a nintendo 3ds and a copy of spyros adventure.

good luck

Likewise--if I had access to the key file, or even some way to put the key file together, I wonder if I could try out some of the settings in the SkylandersGUI Tool such as the "fix CRC" option (not sure if it will work or not, but worth a try).

The most I was able to read into some of the documentation was that the key file could be recreated from the Source information packaged with the Skylander Editor V2, namely a file called "crypt.cpp" in the "src" folder.

_________________

And thanks to those who responded to my PMs! I'll let you know as the situation develops.

In the meantime, while I'm trying to figure out how to get the key file working for the SkylandersGUI tool, does anyone happen to have access to any .BAK files of Cynder made with the Skylander Editor V2? If not, hopefully we can get some feedback regarding the key file needed to make the SkylandersGUI tool work!

A little thought for activision. I seen someone say they don't want you to edit their figures. Last time I checked I bought and paid for it. Should this not be just like music? You buy and pay for royalties. Now if you were editing the product and reselling them as your own product I can see a problem with that

Unfortunately it's not usually as simple as that. Copyright law can be a very jumbled mess (in my humble opinion), and is in desperate need of revision to make it more applicable and pertinent in the 21st Century.

Technically, you don't "own" the things that are protected by copyright. You merely have a license to use them (specifically as is related to software and other licensing). The original author typically retains the actual rights.

As I mentioned--I believe copyright law to be a very jumbled mess right now, and I'd encourage anyone and everyone to learn about it, if for no other reason than to add to the voices demanding reform. Just my $.02, of course. Individual mileage may vary!

P.S. Still haven't had the chance to follow some of the leads that kind members like you have helped me with, but I'll keep you updated once I have!

Copyright law is a horrible mess, but I'm pretty sure that we have the right to edit the data on the figures. If not, then come sue me, Activision - because I edited some of my figures. Bring it. smilie

its not illegal to edit your own figures. you purchased them. it's illegal to sell edited figures though, and (if i'm not mistaken) illegal to provide others with the tools to edit figures (though that may be more a grey area)

Disagree with both of those points. If it's illegal to sell edited figures, then every single used figure on eBay is breaking the law. If it's illegal to provide the tools to edit the figures, then selling the games themselves would be illegal, as the games edit the figures as well.
alegeobla Gold Sparx Gems: 2501
#215 Posted: 02:26:23 08/01/2014
I dont mean so much as 'editing' as accessing the figure in ways in which it was not intended. As I believe the 'key' to access the files is Activision property, using said key to adjust the toy and sell it outside of how its supposed to be used, or distributing said key, is against the law.

Again, I could be completely wrong, not saying I'm right, just my view on it

See source code and c plus plus etc and all that to me is like an alien language. i tried taking it in college and after a week worth of classes i took a withdrawl because I was compeltely lost, even had a friend taking it with me that completely got it and still I was completely lost. To the people still having trouble finding the key, it is the text at the end of lines 53-56 in crypt.cpp. And note that lines 54 and 56 end with a space.

EDIT: The first line start with a space! Forgot that, sorry!

I'm having trouble understanding how to enter the key. I found what I believe is the text at the end of lines 53-56 in the crypt.cpp file. It starts with 'Cop' and ends with 'rved.' and is 52 characters long in total. The 'Key Entry' for the 'Make Key' feature in the SkylanderGUITool only allows for 40 characters to be entered. Please help.

I'm using 2.1 so that could be the difference. The number of characters you can type is dependent on the characters you type. It is using a proportional font. I can type a lot more 'I's than I can type 'O's.

I had my fonts set to 125% for easier reading and after changing to 100% I can now enter all 53 bytes. I am getting 'Incorrect key data' though when I try to 'Make Key'. I have a 53 byte string starting with "Copyr" and ending with "rved. " that I got from the crypt.cpp file. I tried the 2.1 version of the program as well as the 2.0 and still no luck getting a valid key entered.

Well,

The PRO Mode is very interesting.
You can upgrade nearly everything (Money, path, heroic,..) except Upgrade level because the number is too hight.
And Giants quest too but i don't understand why.
Don't be afraid by corruption, Swap force can help you to fix that easily smilie

dont mess with the heroic quests or the level. neither one works right, quests will corrupt the figure, level will just make it level 10 regardless of what it says. the dev was working on fixing those two things when he quit the project.
the pro mode was only for beta testers he trusted i thought. so i hope hes okay with other people having access to it :-x

well he had legit reason to quit. too many people were trolling him about it (like the dmca takedown that lead to nothing). not enough people were appreciating it.
everything this program does can be done with other programs or manually by hex editing the data by hand. the only ground breaking stuff this program did was the portal communication interface (this was really a difficult thing i believe)and the nice GUI with nice buttons for clicking, with art, and labels.

he wasnt getting paid, he was doing this as a hobby, and when a hobby stops being fun you tend to move on. and thats exactly what happened with this. so we are left to edit by hand.

have any of you tried this https://github.com/silicontrip/SkyReader ? its an open source project maybe if enough people get together and start writing code for it, itll eventually be as good as this program was.

I've enjoyed his contributions. Didn't know the torch and pitchfork gang was prominent here. Shame. That's why anyone starting a project should commit it to open source so the community can "pick up" and continue moving forward, instead of it being a one man show.

Knowing the technical specs and what makes the skylander "tick" is very fun and educational; it was very cool going through that on a personal perspective...personally though my use of any tool would be for backup/restore purposes; I prefer my figures to reflect the work I'VE done to it...even if it's a huge time sink.

Hi,

The tool is still in beta and still buggy, if no one can resume the work of spyrofer, so I think it is better to abandon the project.
Method "siowm6" remains the best solution for all those who want to tinker with their statistical figures.

It's so sad, I regret leaving Spyrofer and Shame on those who are discouraged him.
