Announcing it sooner (I'd say one week before it releases) would be nice so people know, but this is better than having to search everything in the hope that you find one instead of going on eBay for it, and it's a nice treat for the loyal customers to have a variant that's "easy" to get once in a while so they have something "special".

Since this variant is an easy to get store exclusive that's just retail price, nothing more, no "buy bundle to get this" rubbish, it also means eBay prices for it won't be hundreds for those in other countries without Best Buy or those who miss it and it also means it's pretty easy to get one for the standard price (+shipping) if you just have a friend in the US who can ship one over. In fact my only gripe is that they never release these "easy variants" in other countries. (Well, they had Glow Rider, but he disappeared really quickly and never came back from my experience, plus when he first came out you were forced to buy a starter to get him- I bought the starter at JB expecting him to not come out again and then discovered he was just a regular store exclusive in the UK and over here a couple of months afterwards would come out at K-Mart.)

Also, while this "fast announcement" may mean that people don't have a lot of time to order it and may miss out on it... I keep hearing people are still seeing Red Drills and Glow Booms about so I think this one will stay floating around later too.

I love Sprocket so I'm definetly getting this, one of my friends is buying one for me.

I agree with the sarcasm. I saw your post down a little bit more but I have to disagree a little. I think it will still be a surprise to those that don't pay attention. I have no problem with the way they did it. The collectors are able to get theirs and If a regular parent or child sees it on there website then great too. Also just random stopping at the store will allow them to possible get them one. As was stated before bestbuy has not really been known for the place to go for Skylanders so if they never advertised this I don't think there would have been very many if any people getting this for a couple weeks. Another thing, most of the regular parents aren't gonna have accounts here or other forums revolving around Skylanders so the info on here is to help us collectors be able to find some every now and then, without much hunting needed. Same with store advertisements, We see them because we are looking for them. Even the electronics employees at my local target didn't know they had them in there ad flyer. All in all, I like being able to surprise my kids with a new one that they haven't seen on TV or all over the net.

I for one am glad that Best Buy is taking pre-orders for this item, that they are waiting a week to put it in their Sunday ad (allowing restocks after the die-hard collectors get theirs), that they are locking out sales until the official release date, and that they allowed online orders. All of these steps are professional retail practices.

I watch TRU, Target, Walmart, and Game Stop and they do not do all of these things. I prefer to shop online, and if the website says the item is in stock at the store, I expect it to find it when I get there.

As for TRU, I think they've handled things really well. At least, better than other stores. I'm not sure what else you want from them. They usually have stock in on the days they advertise them, which is much better than the other retailers. As for your points, they lock out sales (and so does Target) when they are able to (which can't be done by any store when they're part of the same line as toys that are already out). They allow online orders, but don't have a way to keep inventory of individual characters in store because they are all the same SKU. You're comparing the handling of an exclusive figure (that comes in its own case assortment) to the handling of a regular figure. It's comparing apples and oranges.

I agree, I've had zero issue with TRU this time around. They've had tons of stock for all of their exclusives and when things have been advertised it's been there. I have no doubt though that by the time this is over we'll hear reports from people who went to Best Buy and were fortunate enough to get an employee that didn't care about the street date and was willing to game the system to ring them up somehow. It seems to happen everywhere for everything that's released. Either someone has a friend that works there or they find someone that can't be bothered to care.

I agree they probably won't have any for the ad but if I remember right best buy do a rain check deal. Where Target wouldn't so even if you don't get it when the sale is going on you will still be able to get it when they get stock back in. I know it's not the same but I know if Target would have allowed rain checks I wouldn't have been so pissed not getting them, because I wouldn't have had to run to the store everyday of that week to check for them. I myself don't mind waiting for them a week or so if I know I'm gonna get one without having to run out early every morning to check.

Yeah, I wanted to warn those that did store pickup that they put stickers on your product. They do come off, but it's unnerving if your intent is to keep it boxed.

The sticker pealed off cleanly from the two I picked up from my preorder. Just peal it off slowly.

I stopped by my local best buy to pick up my online reserved copy of Heavy Duty Sprocket and I was less than impressed. The store had mixed stock of half empty pegs of wave 1 and 2, and sitting all by itself on a shelf was 1 Aryan crossbow pack. They had no exclusive sprockets on pegs and after I waited in line to pick up my reserved copy I thought to myself "this is the big deal? this is the elusive variant everyone seems to want?"

My son loves skylanders, and I am really addicted to the phone apps, so I'll probably continue to shop for skylanders I like, sales, and new releases, but after this experiance I can say for certain that I will not be chasing any rare variants in the future. I didn't have any other version of Sprocket so this one worked out just fine, and it is nice to have one "special snowflake" skylander.
