At my local gamestop I have normally been the only one there. The only time I have ever dealt with a group of people was on swap force release. Every other time it has been almost nobody. I would check with your gamestop, but I would assume if you got there right before opening you should be fine. At the last Skylanders day I showed up about 15 minutes early and was the only vehicle in the parking lot. My gamestop doesn't put up posters or flyer letting people know about it though either. If its plastered all over there store I'm sure you will have some more kids being there to see what they have.

If I cash in the pent up PowerUp Rewards credit I have, I can get about $40 off in various combinations (3 $10, 2 $5 off 1 item, etc). In hopes that they have the Wave 3 swappers available, I could get all 3 of the new guys for $10 off each, and then either one of the $25 packs 10 off or 2 core 5 off. Curious as to if I get the cash off, will the retail prices or the cash off prices count towards the $20 limit for a mini? And nothing but radio silence from the friends I have that work there :/.

I called yesterday and asked if my local gamestop would be able to do the 20 off the Dark edition and I will update this post when I know something. I would advise anyone who wants to do the same just make sure to call your local gamestop first and make sure otherwise you might be SOL when you get there Saturday. And with 30 buck off total all I have to do is buy one more thing, hell might just buy an accessory since they will be 50% off too.

Looks like it's a maybe on getting the discount it will all depend on the manager at your store. As for new figures it looks like it's a no show until next week at least for the lightcores. But I would assume that the other items from wave three on their site probably won't trickle down to stores until mid next week.

Any word if they will have the Sheep Wreck Adventure Pack? I've held off buying from Toys r Us or Amazon just in case Gamestop gets it, because I'd much rather get a free sidekick with it if I'm gonna pay full price anyways.

They might have it on the 11th.

What I did was buy from TRU, but left unopened and kept the receipt. If GameStop has it, I'll return at TRU, if not, I open it. This way, I don't have to worry about it selling out, and I can pick the one with the best paint job.

i work at gamestop, and got swi at toys r us, because honestly i dont believe they'll get it at this point. if they do i'll buy it from GS with my discount and return it to tru GS should have their shipment in tom i'll go in after i'm done with my full time job and see what they got, and then let everyone know what to expect. the last time they did this with the original set of mini's the only thing they got in was Polar Whirlwind. they gave away these same posters on Swap Force launch day they are small and suck. unless new ones come in which i doubt. Just got another email from GameStop on this. In the e-mail, both the regular and Dark editions are shown next to the $20 off promo.

Just got an email from GameStop about Saturday. It shows the dark set next to the $20 of Swap Force sets.

If you guys will put a copy up that way for those of us who didn't get one we can take it with us on Saturday.

My guess would be they may just eat the 10 dollars on that they are giving for them because they are still selling the starter packs which makes them money. I say they will trash them.

I asked if they would have any stock on new items for the event and he said he hasn't received anything new since the holidays and doesn't think he will be getting anything new before Saturday. Even worse all of their stock is a bunch of Wave 1 stuff that I already have. I want the minis but I don't want to buy a bunch of duplicate items. This is kinda sucky.

Sounds typical to what I've come to expect from the Gamstops in my area for these "events". I'm going to pop my head in to check come Saturday, but I'm not expecting anything.

Well, this employee said they'd have them. I'm not entirely sure if he actually had them in stock at the time or what, but he sounded pretty confident in that claim at least.

Just so people set their expectations appropriately for this GameStop "event", I'd like to remind our members about the last time GameStop hosted a one-day-only Skylanders-themed "event", in the Spring of 2013.

GameStop promised a "poster" to the first 25 customers. The "poster" ended up being a small (about 18" x 12") advertisement-type "poster" that a store might tape to its storefront window, with lots of small-print text on it ... definitely not a collector's item or even worthwhile enough to hang on a child's bedroom wall. Even my four-year son (who normally is overjoyed by anything related to Skylanders) was unimpressed by the "poster".

GameStop advertised that they would have a limited supply of Polar Whirlwind and Scarlet Ninjini available for the "event". Most stores received a dozen or fewer Polar Whirlwind. Almost no stores had Scarlet Ninjini, or even regular Ninjini in-stock for the "event".

GameStop advertised that purchasing any Giants series character would net you a free "sidekicks" Skylander. When customers arrived at the store, the policy had been changed so that you had to buy a Giant Skylander (like Crusher or Eye-Brawl, etc.) to be eligible for the free "sidekick". Of course, all the Skylanders fans that showed-up early for the "event" already owned all the Giants (except Ninjini, which the store did not have available, as previously mentioned), and no one wanted to buy another (duplicate) Giant just to get the "sidekick".

Overall, the whole "event" was a total let-down and a borderline disaster. The experience soured a LOT of Skylanders fans' impressions of GameStop.

Now, it's possible that GameStop learned from its mistakes and that this new "event" this weekend will be much improved ... it's possible. But to be honest, the advertisement is very similar to the last "event's" advertisement ("free poster! free sidekicks!") and I'm not holding my breath. I fully expect this Skylanders "event" to be sucktacular, just like the last one. I would encourage everyone to temper your expectations and/or excitement about this weekend's "event". I know I won't be getting up early to stand in line in the cold so I can be among the first to attend the GameStop "event"; no way.

Yeah, the little one and I will be at this. Actually a few accessories we're considering at 50% off and there's a handful of Skylanders we can purchase, although we're gonna be hoping for Sheep Wreck Island in that department. Hopefully the poster is full size, but if it's not, well, it's free.


Edit: Oh, and I think there was a Skylanders Day "event" happening in December when Jolly Bumble Blast came out. It was a Saturday. Granted, there was no real event...It was just a sale that they called an event, or day or whatever. Nothing else really to it.

Well for anyone wanting to get the Dark edition with money off good news. I got another add from Gamestop and it again shows both regular and dark editions so the manager will have to let you get atleast the $20 off. I'm hoping they will let me buy 2 starters as seperate purchases since I still need to get the 3ds version as well.

My expectations for tommorow; a cheap and worthless poster and no new skylanders. But the only thing from wave 3 I have left to get are both the lightcores. Hopefully I will be able to get all my giantkicks and that will only leave me having to find some of the ssa sidekicks somehow.

I just talked to two Gamestop stores in my area. They both said that they would work with me and I wouldn't have to make four separate transactions to get the minis. As long as I spend $80, I should be able to get all four Giants minis. I guess it all depends on which place you go. Maybe some stores will allow it, while others won't.

However, neither was able to give me information about Wave 3. One mentioned that the Skylanders were ringing up as the same thing and he couldn't tell if there were any new names on the way. The other store said he didn't expect any new shipments by tomorrow.

Oh I didn't think about the guide. I hope its on sale too. I know my kiddos where looking at it and I wasn't about to pay full price for it. I know for the Jolly Bumble blast Day it was pretty dead with a advertisement poster. From the picture it looks the same so I wouldn't get your hopes up. Also saw on there website that it says online only for the lightcore when you look them up. Has the 1/11/14 release date though, so i guess we will see. I have two 9.99 off certificates that have to be used by the 31st and have all of the characters minus the two lightcores. So hope they have them so I can use my certificates. I doubt they will have any other new skylanders before February. Which they didn't have such a short expiration date on them. Since the number of new ones is starting to get limited now that its just down to small wave releases.

Ok well I called GameStop and got some pretty sucky news. The manager of one said he wasn't sure if I could get away with buying the Dark Edition and getting the 4 figures but they will see tomorrow, I asked if they had enough or if I should get there early, he asked his associate and he said something about 5 figures! Only 5! So I called the other closest in the mall. The manager there said that it had to be four seperate transactions and there was no way around it because that's how it will show up in the computer. When I old him about the other GameStop having only 5 he laughed a little and said " yeah you'll definitely want to get here early if you want a SideKick". Well there go my hopes for the Dark Edition and maybe even getting a SideKick at all let alone all 4

They do this to drum up business sometimes. I am not saying that you are not going to want to get their early but, they might be telling a fib.

I "might" stop in at 3:30 to look at this event but i feel it will mostly be over by then as i have overtime work on saturday from 7am to 3pm. If i needed the sidekicks like last yr id def go but i dont as i was playing this past yr and scored them with the chips promo. I am going to remind my brother thou since he never got his if he wants them, but he works till 8-4 so idk if they will have any left by the time both of us get off. I'd ask my wife to go but she has plans in the morning.

I'm not taking any chances, I'm getting there before it opens in the mall. I hope they can at least (knowing I am there to buy) put the 4 figures I want aside when I get there until I pick out the best 8 flippin figures to sell online -__- I'm going to try again to plead the Dark Edition case....

I plan on being at the door tomorrow at 9:30. I do not want to miss out on the free minis. Hopefully they will have new swappers.

I just called a few other places within 30 minutes of my area. Most of them seem to think that they will, but won't know until they get their shipment tomorrow.

Good news... there is a chance. They are getting shipments!

Bad news... we won't know until we go tomorrow and find out.

Lol the case I want to make is if I can get the Dark Edition (with coupon) that's $80, can I get the 4 figures that way instead if 4 $20 transactions.

Just spoke to two of my local Gamestops, one was a bit unsure of all my questions but the other guy was pretty confident in what he was saying.

- Confirmed to be Giants Minis. Both stores currently have them in stock. Each Gamestop said they had 4 of each.

- No new Wave 3 stuff is currently in stock. What they've had since the holiday is what they'll have for tomorrow. Major bummer.

- Dark Edition will be eligible for the $20 off promo. They had a PS3 one in stock so I had them hold it for me.

- In terms of separate transactions... one store was completely clueless and said he didn't know and he'll have to wait and see tomorrow to see how they ring up. The second store, the guy I spoke to said it's fine. If I do an $80 transaction they'll figure out a way to make it work somehow. Sooo yeah, it seems like this part is gonna be completely up to how your own Gamestop wants to handle it. Annoying.

Well dealing with Gamestop in general is usually pretty unpleasant so I can imagine things may not go too well for the hardcore people who know exactly what they want and how to they want to get it. For the casual mom and dad taking their kids to a fun Skylander event where they can buy a couple of figures and get a free Skylander, it'll be enjoyable as I feel that's mainly who they're targeting with this promo.

Unfortunately for the casual gamer the minis will all be gone by the time the get to it...

so here it is, each store should have a good amount of mini's but thats it. this is to get rid of GS excess inventory of Swap Force Wave 1 and Giants, and if there is any SA available. Nothing new. I just got back from the GS i work at they got nothing. oh the posters we got those in. the size of a piece of paper. Its a joke and i'm embarassed to say i work for GS. It really is that depressing.

No. Your experience was limited to the few GameStop stores that recognized the customer service fiasco that was unfolding right in front of their own eyes on that previous Skylanders "Festival" event last Spring.

The GameStop computer system only allowed for a free "sidekick" if the customer purchased a Giant (Thumpback or Hot Head, etc.), even though GameStop's advertisements clearly showed that any Skylanders Giants character purchase should have made the customer eligible for the "sidekick". There was no way to get around this in the computer/scanner system that day at GameStop. The only thing the store employees could do to manage the problem was have the customer "buy" a Giant (making him/her eligible for the "sidekick") and then immediately accept a return on the Giant.

But not all stores' employees used that work-around. Some simply told customers, "too bad" ... and worse, some stores didn't even have any "sidekicks" in-stock for the "big event".

I have a feeling you're not the only one. All of the Gamestop employees that I talked to today about this event just seemed to blow this off like it was some big joke. They didn't really have definite answers and made rude comments about it. A couple of them laughed at a few of my questions. I don't know, I just feel like Gamestop doesn't take Skylanders too serious.

I can say, the GameStop I went to on the last Sidekicks event was giving away Sidekicks with any Battle Pack purchase - and it didn't require any tricks or games with the register to ring up.

Im seriously stressing right now because i have to decide between 2 GameStops and if I make the wrong decision it could cost me a Dark Edition and the Minis First World Problems....
