Is it just me, or have the last wave of figures has sloppier, and less consistent paint jobs?
Wind-up is the worst.

I think that has been true of everything released for Swap Force thus far.

I didn't pay attention to paint jobs at all while collecting for the first game, and upon inspection, all my figures are fine. I feel like paint jobs were an issue by the time wave 2 of Giants started rolling around. This is another reason I try to grab figures upon first release, as the quality control slips on the later stock.

Wind Up's paint job is supposed to look a little sloppy. He is kind of beat up, sort of like Wall-E. I thought so too, but have compared him to others now that he is out here and it is consistent. It's a style choice.
Now that said, I have seen some poor paint jobs. In this wave, there are a few that aren't the best, notably Wham Shell and Stink Bomb seem to vary quite a bit. Last Wave, Riptide and Night Shift were very spotty. |

I have been able to get good paint jobs for Swap Force figures, but not by blindly grabbing off shelves. Many figures have been put pack. I agree that there are lots of sloppy ones out there.

I'd like to see how many people would call Series 2 Camo a "near perfect" paint job.

I went through a whole case at TRU (the employee let me do it) and all of them had a decent paint job. The only issue I saw was a couple had some yellow specks of paint on the green. Otherwise they were fine, and I'm pretty picky. Not as bad as Jade Flashwing, man those were really iffy in general. Series 3 Chill was also really iffy on the many I went through, the only decent ones were ones in three packs. I'm thinking they were made on different lines. |

Every single Thorn Horn Camo and LightCore Flashwing I've seen look bad. Camo's paintjob just looks bad in general since none of his back spikes are coloured like the S1 version, and it seems all of them had scratches or mold issues. LightCore Flashwing is actually decent... But there's a spot on the left side of her (on her head, right cheek) you can see the mold cast on, and it just ruins it- that area often seems to be left unpainted or badly painted or sticks up a lot. I haven't managed to find good ones of either- I just ended up settling for what I picked up at the time(though I did need to rummage around to get the Camo I have ).
I find the "better" paintjobs this time seem to be quite a bit better but the "worse" ones seem to be a lot worse than the last games... I've seen only a few really good ones, more "average" ones and lots of bad ones. It doesn't help that many of the Skylanders have many missing details. Even if you manage to find a "good" TH Camo, the way he's painted with so little real detail makes the figure uninteresting anyway. The old ones weren't perfect and a few really sucked but I notice more of the missing details with these ones. I might be nitpicking more, though I still do notice on a few of them a lot. I agree that after Giants W2 the quality started getting worse- and hasn't really gotten better since, it was pretty consistent before then. Actually the Giants launch figures looked REALLY GOOD, it's just that it seems every batch after that wasn't that well-made...

Not sure if anyone has posted about the difference in the "W" and "E" packaging as of yet (the code stamped on the back of every figure package)...and I'm not going to fight with searching through loads of forums to see if it has been mentioned, but all the W packaging seems to have far better paint jobs overall, and if you look really carefully (especially in the Giants core figures) you'll see some slight color variations between E and W that scalpers on Ebay will attempt to exploit...like Prism Break's S2 figure with the green or blue crystals and Chill's blue or red lips.
Personally, I don't care one way or the other. My kids open their figures (except certain special ones like Flocked Stump Smash or Crystal Stealth Elf) and we have figures with some really bad paint jobs. In fact, we got several figures that the packages were already opened and stapled back together. One of our swappers has a big gouge across the ability symbol. It was in the (factory sealed) package that way, but really, it plays no differently. But, I do have a friend who is an avid collector and he makes sure to get a W and an E packaging of every figure for his collection so he has both variations.

Wow that's disappointing. Looks unfinished. What're the chances this is isolated to the first release and they'll correct it later on?

I couldn't stand the ugliness of the all green tail, so I painted the thorns on the tail yellow. Now there is more contrast between the green leaves, and it doesn't look so unfinished as it was before.

No, I agree. The spyro version's mottled paint looks odd. But then, I buy figures to play with them, not to collect dust on a shelf.

I'm not sure if this is rhetorical or there was some early version of S2 Wrecking Ball that did have purple teeth....? We've definitely seen Skylanders improve from the prototype version that's seen on the pack-in poster, I don't recall one before that actually took a down-grade paint job-wise.

Here's what Hot Head was actually going to look like. It was one of his final models before the one that you see in stores was created. He was scrapped because he costed way too much to produce.
