Don't know if someone beat me to this idea or not, but I've been using Flynn's ship as a portal. I really wanted this ship, even though, being an adult, I wasn't sure what I was going to with it except look at it. But it turns out the portal fits in there pretty much perfectly. I don't think the old portal would work. The new one is flat on top. so it's able to sit flush with the underside of the ships deck. I ran the cord out of the slit in the front of the ship. Been using it this way for a week, no problems, everything still works perfectly. The glow actually comes through the deck a bit.

Anyway, it amuses me and gives me a use for the pricey kids playset that I asked my husband to buy me for Christmas

My son would go nuts if i showed him this here lol. It's a neat idea and i def have enough portals. Does the ship come apart or you have to unscrew it?

The top is meant to come off so that you can store Skylanders in it. But it's not much of a storage solution if you have a lot of figures.

The use of my ship in this manner has my full approval ... BOOM!!!

Random question as id rather not make another thread. Does the portal have a usb limit? In other words currently mine goes from the system across the floor which is bad cause ppl keep tripping over it and there is no other way into our living room as it's set up that way (lack of space etc). I want to buy an extension cord for the usb but i don't want it not working or messing with figures saving etc, any thought? I plan to run it around to meet the middle of the room better as i like having the portal on the living room coffee table so my son and i can separate our figures to each side and have the space for them etc.

A regular passsive USB cord probably shouldn't be longer than 15'. If you have an active one or a repeater or whatever then it can be longer.

idk if i'll get the near 10 feet but would these work before i spend the money.

I have the 3.3' one. I forget how long the portal's cord already is, I wanna say around 9'. I remember that it's shorter than the Giants portal's cord. The 6.5' might be okay. I know other people on here have said they use really long ones, but maybe they are repeaters or they have a hub or something.

I didn't want this expensive piece of plastic...but with a sale...this is so gonna be cool to try out.

I thought about trying something similar to this myself, but that ship is still a bit more money than what I want to drop, considering what it is.

If I can get a sale that puts it down to like $40 or less, I might bite.

For USB, I have a 20 ft cable extension I bought on Amazon and it works fine.

Totally agree. What were they thinking? Maybe they did originally but Acti had a problem with it.
