In my area, I probably made about a dozen Target drop-ins hitting four different locations and the only thing I spotted the entire time was 1 Spy Rise.

Now on to the most pressing issue of the day. What Skylanders Dad would do if there had been no Stink Bomb ad on Sunday the 29th? Well...Let's see.

I went to Target once on Friday the 27th (in the morning) because so many posting on this board were saying how they got the new swappers. One visit made based on hearsay.

I then went to Target 7 times between Sunday (the 29th) and Friday (the 3rd) last week because of the Sunday Target ad. No other reason but that. The ad. (Well, obviously my own personal character flaws led me to going that many times, however for every one "Skylanders Dad" that went seven times, there were hundreds to thousands of "Skylander John Does" that went 1 time or more....because of, you guessed it, that ad.)

So, to recap: After 7 visits in 6 days because of that ad, I can assure you with 100% certainty that I would not be more upset if they chose not to advertise the product-which they never bothered even having in stock during the entire ad circular's period...The obvious conclusion to that hypothetical is that I would not have wasted my time visiting Target 7 times.

Heck, I can even add more of a cherry to this sundae. The Friday (27th Dec) when I went in in the morning based on the hearsay here? I did not ask an employee about the new wave, only checked the on shelf stock and left. They ended up stocking wave 3 midday that day-which I found out on Sunday the 29th. Why didn't I go back Friday afternoon? Or Saturday? Why didn't I harass an employee to check the back that Friday morning? Because it was hearsay. And why did I go back on Sunday looking for them with the confidence of Zeus holding his lightning bolt atop Mt. Olympus? I went back that Sunday with full confidence because of the ad (and Monday thru Friday, although that confidence was destroyed by midweek).

I hope this clears up confusion about the issue. We're gonna have to agree to disagree about it. Your hypothetical assumption about my actions and reactions about what I would do if an ad was not placed for this release is wrong.

Final note: I didn't go to Target yesterday (Sunday the 5th). Before deciding if I would go, I checked the ad Sunday morning. Then, upon seeing the product was not in the ad, I did not bother going and I've FINALLY quelled the angst of my little one...so that's a huge plus. o!

Both parties involved with this thing clearly dropped the ball. However, its become far clearer that less blame falls on Target and more falls on Activision.

Target should have done something to mark these boxes as part of a timed exclusive they paid for, and had planned advertising for. That aside though, Activision seems to have limited the amount of stock that was provided to each Target during this exclusive time frame. Only what seems to have been 2-3 cases to some stores over the course of the exclusive, and during the week of the ad, is nowhere close to covering the demand of the figures. Even if Target would have waited for correct date of the ad for release, we can all probably agree that the cases would have been sold out by mid-day anyways. Most stores I've checked, and what I've seen online never got any additional boxes of these Swappers beyond that for the week of the sale.

At this point I'm more interested in the details regarding Target/TRU/Walmart/GameStop/Best Buy and Activision and how much supply is guaranteed in these exclusive contracts. It really seems Activision screwed things over here, as I cant honestly believe that only 2-3 cases would be all that was contracted for a release like this. Sure, there is almost a month left in January, so there is still a chance for more to start showing up but Activision is clearly dragging their feet with Target on this, unless the next round before the time frame runs out, is double or even triple the case amount.

I haven't read through this whole thread, but do we have inside info on who screwed up what? I think it's safe to assume that Target screwed up marking the boxes. We don't know that Activision is at fault for the limited quantities...maybe that's all Target wanted to pay for. (Maybe Activision gives exclusives in exchange for prominent location in the store?) Target may have expected to have more wave 2 in stock and do a bit of bait switch like selling. It could be that the manufacturer in china did not produce the product by the deadline.

It just seems to me that the are quite a few ways this could the way it did. Unless we have inside info, or atleast have first hand knowledge on how this process typically works in reality, we're just guessing.

It's moot now...look for it at other retailers in a few weeks.

Do we know who actually marks the boxes for timed releases? Is it Target that's required to at its warehouse, or Activision? Because unless they crack open a box, if there's no markings of what's specifically inside, they're not gonna know, and therefore can't mark it up for a street date, a special or anything really.

Eh, lesty why don't you just make a PM list (with myself and some others included) that appreciate your information ahead of time. Since advanced knowledge of promotions it is clearly too harmful for some of these guys to handle. He would clearly be happier to have had no clue when the Swappers were going to come out or at what stores. Because that would make his searching easier. Somehow.

I'll jump on that PM wagon, I haven't followed the whole thing that's going on here but I do appreciate heads up info especially since I did take a shot and got the 3 Swappers early at Target. But with every insider info you have to use common knowledge and it can't hurt to check. Also you don't really have any choice sometimes then to wait. Lastly if you hear something is going to happen at this place and your not sure and don't want to go there and find it wasn't true (like all the wave 3 rumors... Boy I was looking for them November 15th!) just check the forums, they'll let you know. Again that's how I decided to check Target 2 days before the release for the 3 wave 3 swappers, so many people were finding them and I grabbed the second to last of all 3. So I appreciate insider info, it's invaluable and it's your decision to put all your faith in it and possibly get let down and become bitter or take the info, remember it and play it by ear. I've only been here for about a month, I've been reading the comments here on and off for almost 2 years and with all the comments I can see Lesty has been pretty spot on if I'm not mistaken and he will tell if he's positive or it looks like it's going to be a certain way. Ok, let the insults begin....

General comment: My posting about the Target ad and Target's business activities has nothing to do with lesty personally or the fact that he released information early. I challenge anyone to find something in any of my posts that direct anger about early information being released or lesty. My issue is (and always has been) with the Sunday ad Target released on 12/29 and poor communication within and by Target. That's never wavered...so let's not mix apples and oranges and make this some sort of personal grudge. I'm really not sure how anything I say keeps going back to him other than he's affiliated with Target so there's a very, very small and indirect connection there that amounts to a whole bunch of nothing as far as I'm concerned.

Direct comment to lesty: I was a little emphatic and rude in my response to you lesty (which I now regret but the main jist of where I was coming from is in that post-so it is what it is). It was a poor response to your post, however it was not bred out of thin air. Your asking me rhetorical, directed questions and insinuating just how sure you were that I would do this or that about a situation was not taken with a grain of salt. Either way, what's done is done. I'm sorry if I have offended you or if my posting has persuaded you to do things you would prefer not doing or vice versa. I'm really not out to create e-drama. That is not my intention. It just kinda flowed that way. *shrugs* That behind me now, thank you for the hunting good luck wishes. I've been highly vocal the last week about Target and this whole debacle. Your comment was both highly generalized and inappropriate. Hence why I felt the need to comment in the first place. People have the right to voice their discontent here. That doesn't warrant a "butt hurt cry babies" label either. The issue should be, and only be, when it becomes a personal attack. Which has already been addressed by the person(s) involved.

Does complaining really get anywhere on the forums? Nah, I can agree on that. They are just toys. But it can certainly serve as a means to vent stress and annoyance.

Venting is fine, but from the vitriol I've seen on this thread and others, some people were exceptionally put out by the mix ups. Hey, I think it was a mess up too, and probably shouldn't have happened (even lesty said this), but at some point along the many, many posts we DO need to remember the "toy" part of this. It is condescending, yes, but it is true.

And what lesty does is highly appreciated by most. Many of the posts could easily be construed as people that were mad he gave the information, even if that isn't exactly how they felt. From what I have gathered, he gains his information from upcoming ad events. What that means is had it not been in the ad, he probably wouldn't have known - and we would have all been clueless as we were when Thumpback just showed up last year, mid January. People went on frenzied searches all over the place and EBay went nuts with auctions ringing up for close to $300. I much prefer us knowing that Target was going to have them, and when. When they popped out early, most people were able to adjust and get them. Some did not. That could have very well been true if they came out exactly on time on Sunday, not everyone that wanted them would have gotten them - it's simple numbers, they might still have sold out before you got them had you (figurative) gotten to the store behind others. Shrug, it happens.

I would have been considerably more annoyed had it been an exclusive variant, but then that probably would have been street date locked. These were coming very soon (less than 10 days as it turns out) everywhere else. Express your discontent in a more productive fashion and pick them up at the many other retailers that now have them instead. Avoid shopping at Target, if you must.

Now, last year, I was highly bothered by the special Ninjini event in New York where they gave out 300 Ninjinis. It was quite a thing on here. I felt it catered to scalpers (which it did, as many, many of them went straight up on EBay). But, by all indications the figure wasn't going to be out anywhere else for a couple months, which turned out to be wrong. It came out 16 days later. Turns out I over-reacted, which I regret - but I learned from it. Now that they are out all over, take the time and reflect at the end result here. We knew they were coming very soon. And those that were unfortunate to not get them at Target can get them fairly easily now. If you still missed them, well Wave 3 will be clogging the shelves pretty soon. Just think, in a month or so you will probably be sick of seeing pegs of Stink Bomb as you are impatiently looking for Wave 4. It never ends.

Target told my wife today that they should finally have the new figures on the shelves in the morning. Now I'm convinced that Target must have contracted these deliveries out to Santa and his elves and it just took a polar vortex to bring cold enough air to FL so they could make a freaking delivery. Everybody here knew that 1) They will be widely available everywhere soon, and 2) You can purchase them from Europe if you're too impatient. In addition, nobody's forced to buy these figures at all. Does your mortgage or health hang in the balance if you don't get yourself a Stink Bomb or Rubble Rouser? In the end, these are all just toys. That's right, toys. Yes, we all enjoy this hobby, but we all got to remember that they're just toys. To complain at all, for any reason other than being scammed out of money, is absolutely ridiculous.

I applaud your gracious and humble attitude Skylanders Dad, we could really use more of that in the world. I'm not saying you were a butt hurt whatever, just saying it's nice to see.

Considering that TRU now has all the figures plus the new packs showing up, I hope Target didn't have to shell out too much for their one week "exclusive". I would estimate TRU sold more figures today than Target did during the past week simply because the stock wasn't available on shelves. Plus TRU charges an extra dollar apiece. Boom!

Well, my local Target doesn't have them yet. Does anyone know if typically the online store's release date is ever before or after the brick and mortar store? If I can avoid TRU's prices, I want to try. And any word on if the boxes for these releases have any info helpful for identification?

TRU has the best price right now if you want 3 swappers and/or you could even include giants in that equation.

3 for $35. $11.67 per.

Plus the chance of having stock appears to be pretty high.

....I have all the Giants. And I have the swappers, but I'm waiting on the others. It's ok. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Eh, lesty why don't you just make a PM list (with myself and some others included) that appreciate your information ahead of time. Since advanced knowledge of promotions it is clearly too harmful for some of these guys to handle. He would clearly be happier to have had no clue when the Swappers were going to come out or at what stores. Because that would make his searching easier. Somehow.
