I have never seen a darklight crypt in a store...and we started our skylanders "journey" in November of 2012. That journey includes a TON of store visits to all the major (and some non-major) retailers that carry skylanders. But every now and again I do see people post on here that they found one. My guess is the chances are very, very slim...and that's strong very, very. Some peeps have held out hope that this and certain skylanders such as Boomer from SSA will be re-released at some point, but nothing like that is confirmed.

Since they restocked him at around Haloween, you might still be able to find them.

I think i saw one at TRU last week after they restocked after all the SSA and Giants sales. Might not help you unless you live in Tri-Cities area of TN. But I have noticed that TRU was putting out any stock of SSA they had left so that might be true at all of them.

I found 2 in a Walmart in KY around October along with everyone else. But that was the only ones I have seen since we started at Christmas 2012. I haven't heard of anyone finding any other than that one week that Walmarts seem to get 2 a piece (at least before this thread). Now all we're missing is Boomer (at least to get the original figures). People have said that TRU has gotten them, but I have been a lot and even saw cases opened in front of me with no luck.

I found one in a Target about 3 months ago or so. It's the one and only time I've ever seen it on a shelf. I did find 2 of the Boomer 3 packs the day Swap Force was released at TRU and another 3 of them 2 days after Christmas. All of these in northern VA.

I've been hearing a lot about Darklight Crypt. Why is it so popular? Was it difficult to find when it first came out, are people wanting it just because others are wanting it, or is it just that awesome that people still look for it, even though the game is old?

I finally just bought it off of Ebay for $50. I haven't seen one in a store at all and, since I finally pulled the trigger on a Boomer, Ghost Roaster and the Crypt were my last needed pieces. It feels good not hunting endlessly for this stuff anymore, and I can just sit back and wait for the new stuff to come out. I don't even want to know how much money I've dropped on this game at this point. Even with Ebay deals, used pieces, etc. coming late to the party (PS4 Swap Force) has cost me a premium to catch up.

You want your wife to kill you? Strange.

The only reason that we have Darklight Crypt is because my in-laws bought it for my son right after it was released. We had no idea what the game was, but he really liked the skill theme on the package, so that's what he chose when they took him to TRU. By the time we got the game, we were glad he had it.

If Everyone wants Darklight Crypt because of Ghost Roaster then why is Dragons Peak not as rare or expensive ?

There is only one Boomer left in my whole town and he is in a 3 pack . I love my Boomer .

Ebay prices are outrageous . I will probably try to get a preowned Darklight Crypt toy without a Ghost Roaster from Ebay .

Dragons Peak has gotten easy to find. Darklight Crypt wasn't in the last wave of Adventure Packs for SSA, so it wasn't being shipped for a while. All the adventure packs eventually became hard to find for a few months and Dragon's Peak was the most wanted of the rest (though not as much as Darklight Crypt), but back in the Spring, they re-released the Adventure packs and they became easily available. TRU has so many that they were selling them for $10 around Black Friday/Cyber Monday and they still have plenty of them. Darklight Crypt, on the other hand, has not been shipped out much.

As for you finding Boomer, you're lucky. I've never seen a Boomer in a single or 3 pack (at least since I knew about him..it's possible I saw him when we first started buying Skylanders and didn't know it).

I just found one DLC at my local Best Buy. I was in there to use this rewards gift certificate before it expired and there it was sitting on the peg. When I checked out, the UPC scan didn't show up in the inventory. They had to call a manager over to price it and allow the sale, and they had no idea how it got in the store. I'm guessing some unknowing parent returned it.

Since I already have DLC, I'm not sure if I'm just going to leave this in box as a second set, or sell it on ebay. Probably sell, as I've never sold anything there before and I'd like to get my feet wet with that's guaranteed to sell well.

I recommend Amazon for selling new items - simply because the fees are easily spelled out, payments are simple, and the item stays listed until it sells or you take it down. Unlike eBay.

Strange. I haven't seen SSA stuff at Best Buy since they sold all their singles on Black Friday 2012 for $2.99 (and even them it was all Drobots by the time I got there). I don't see how someone could have returned it, though. For one, I would think BB is a little more strict in accepting returns without a receipt. Another is that if it doesn't ring up in their system, a store won't (or really couldn't) take it back. Not sure where it would have come from, though. It's possible it was hidden in some back stock or something. I've seen it happen in retail before.

I have seen a few in the past couple weeks at my local toysrus. I have been going there getting the last few SSA figures I don't have. I think I saw it just last Friday to be exact. So there out there. Just a rarity. Still no luck with the wave 3 swappers at Target as both my local stores state they haven't received any. Can't wait till they get released from other stores. I really hate Target having any exclusive. I remember open day for Swap Force they had none out and when I talked to the Employee they stated they would put them out on the following Monday. They had about 10 different parents there all waiting for them. Finally a manager went and got them out of the back. If it wasn't for the Nitro two pack I would have never been there in the first place.

Edit: was just there and they currently don't have any. Looks like they were picked through this weekend.

The next gen systems introduced a lot of people to Skylanders who never played before. I bought Swap Force for the PS4 and it got me wanting the older games and figures.

Yeah, that and some of the folks who got on board with Skylanders near the tail end of SSA/ start of Giants. I remember seeing them in store when we first started collecting, and to this day kick myself for thinking "I'll get that next time". My TRU has a huge stock of what were previously hard to find SSA three packs, but like everywhere else, all adventure packs BUT Darklight. I may bite the bullet and ask them if they have any stock unopened next time I am there, but unless I get the like 1 or 2 folks who I am friendly with there, they shoot me down.

There is unfortunately a reason for this, and you will likely not be successful having them find it in the back. They shipped cases of Adventure Packs early in the release cycle of Giants that contained two of Empire of Ice, two Dragon's Peak and two Pirate Seas. During the SSA heyday, these were by far more popular than Darklight Crypt (for whatever reason). I used to see Darklight Crypts and only Darklight Crypts on the shelves (along with lots of Boomers). I skipped it early on before I knew Skylanders was a hit with my son, only to pick it up at Target right after New Years 2012 back when everything Skylanders was hard to find simply from lack of anything else being available. Until April 2012 or so, if you saw an Adventure Pack in the store, it was Darklight Crypt. The consumer spoke, and they listened - when they made a case assortment of Adventure Packs for shipping alongside Giants (since it supported them), they chose the three most desired Adventure Packs (probably limiting it to those for manufacturing reasons).

Since then, since it is no longer shipping, they all disappeared - which caused demand to rise (people want what they cannot get, and new people also want it). Unless the store has an old case of Adventure Packs circa early 2012 gathering dust on the back shelf, the only thing they will find is a case with the three other ones. Given in Swap Force, those pieces are no more than screen clearing "smart bombs" their desire to re-print/ship them is probably really low. Some showed up mid 2013 due to a small reprint for the Japan market just getting SSA, evidently some filtered their way over here, but those sold out quickly to fans and scalpers.

There is demand for these out of print things, but there is that times 100 demand for Swap Force figures. TRU is already having a hard time clearing out old SSA/Giants stock, they put them on clearance sales a lot. I'm sure they don't want to dedicate the space to even more old stuff. After all, they would charge retail for it, not the 3x or 4x a scalper charges - and at that rate, it isn't a wise use of space.

I don't see why it would be a bad idea. That's how I got mine. The chances of you finding one in a store is slim to none, and the prices are only going up. If you really want one, and you don't care if it's new, now is as good a time to buy as ever.

*Nods in agreement* It is pretty much a long-shot if anyone has one in stock by me. I've been in store enough, during shipment days and restocks to notice that most of the Skylanders shoppers are scalpers...know a few of their faces from various stores and watched them scoop up multiple packs of the same thing. Supply/demand does us in again! It wouldn't be a huge deal for gameplay purposes, but my son and I share that completionist gene. I may bite the eBay bullet sooner than later. My recent discovery of a Scorpion Catapult at Wal-Mart has the Gambler's falicy kicking into overdrive right now though smilie
