Would you look at the first page? The Stump Smash is a prototype, and the Star Strike is a factory sample. It actually might be a prototype because there are some differences.

We have gotten 100% confirmation that these aren't bootlegs. These are all the real deal.

And thanks for posting my Star Strike auction and calling it fake.

The Toys for Bob employee has confirmes that the unpainted figures are not bootlegs, but factory samples. The Clear Stump Smash is also an official prototype.

I think what Talarus is saying is that unfinished figures, or figures whose machines were improperly calibrated at the Skylanders factory are a far cry from the prototypes on the first page of this thread.

In the one lot there, I actually got 4 real, working figures, one of which is a "rare" figure. You can't really find the correct data to program them, unless you steal an RFID chip from the factory.

These are real figures. The paint is way too similar to be fake.

Those crappy knockoffs are awesomely awful. I honestly wouldn't mind having a few of those. Those are bootlegs created for the American market. Minimum 20% different from the actual figures, and a spelling substitution or two so they can slip by copyright laws and make it to a flea market near you. But this is China we're talking about. There are no copyright laws. They have bootleg CARS. If there's money to be made, or someone to undercut, they'll make it.

Not so...There are some DAMN fine replicas coming out of China. I've been there. There is no such thing as a toys r us. You need to assume everything you find in a toy store to be a fake. There are things like the above obvious knockoffs, and then there are other things that you wouldn't know the difference.
I bought a World of Warcraft figure that looked *PERFECT* right down to the paper inserts in the package. I had the others in the series, purchased at legit stores over here, and thought that with my knowledge of the line, and "higher than bootleg" price, it was an okay buy. It was only after returning home that I opened it up and realized how terribly wrong I was. Nothing fit together right, and it has an overall "cheaper" feel to the plastics. It was a high-quality fake.
On that note, I started questioning everything. If the legit toys come from China in the first place, and these bootlegs are often made in the same factories, with the same molds, at what point aren't they bootlegs anymore? This also goes especially true with clothing. Some of it at the better sources, even thought they admitted it was fake, was impossible to tell from the real deal.

We're lucky too, in the fact that they bootleggers haven't been able to copy the RFID tech yet, so it's safe to say that anything that works in-game is from a legit source originally.

tl;dr if you see sellers on alibaba/taobao selling lots of unpainted/non-working/baseless figures, they're probably neither legit nor prototypes, but chinese knockoffs. They're still cool regardless.....and I kinda want a few myself now... dat clear stumpsmash....

Matteomax, thank you for posting a pic of those bootlegs again... Never searched for them but kept trying to remember what they looked like, and... They're horrible... I could probably make better looking "bootlegs" with Play-Doh!

I also like that Sunburn better, the crown gives him a very powerful regal feel which is very different to any other Skylander... I also like how the claws are gold... He just feels less "standard" overall.

Anyway, back on point. I've been looking for the full set of Skylanders: Bootlegs- forever. Haven't seen a single lead-painted Kaos kicker anywhere.

Anyone seen them for sale on any sketchy websites?

This is the Series 2 Zook from the game's announcement and pre-release. The rocket as well as the paint on the bazooka and the rocket are different and he has a slightly different expression.

There's also what appears to be a snow level or something to the right of him there too, which didn't make it to the final game(it doesn't look as icy as Empire of Ice and it's on an island in the sky, presumably in an archipelago like other levels, and EoI basically took place on a single island where you were cramped into mazes).

look at some of these especially the crystals there is a eruptor, boomer, and a dino rang. then there is a dino rang crystal with eyes painted some bronzes and many more i have not seen and think there is a black crystal dark spyro hard to see in the middle
