I want to know peoples opinions on it. I am an avid collector, and I collect it since no other game has intrigued me as much (Other than Pokemon). But do you think the figures are actually worth 10-15$ for 1 character? Support your argument in the comments!

Honestly, no. I think that the lightcores should be $10.99, the swappers and giants should be $11.99, and the core characters should be $4.99 or $5.99.

I honestly think they're overpriced. If you can find them for a sale's price online like what Toys R Us has from time to time, it's worth it then. As of right now they're pretty figures but not worth anywhere near the cost they're trying to call for.

I think all of them are at a minimum 33% overpriced and swappers are probably more since TRU could sell them for 11 and still make a profit. Because honestly the only time a company would reasonably sell at a loss is if they are truly just trying to get rid of inventory which wouldn't be the case for the new figures. I remember when the original game came out and the core was 7.99 and I know production cost has come down as they have gotten better at production.
**EDIT** Of the current figures I've bought I've only gotten 6 that weren't on sale and I regret not waiting.

I don't agree with the prices, but anymore a regular action figure costs $8-$10, so one that has a computer chip in it and has interactive features with a video game is bound to be more. With that said, I rarely buy a figure at full retail unless it's a hard to find one.

The prices are fair, for the most part. If they weren't selling like hotcakes, the price would drop. There's a LOT of links in the chain that need their "piece of the pie" from the sale of Skylanders. The developer, the publisher, the distributor, the retailer, and probably a couple of other entities, too.
The other factor is that there are discounts/sales/promotions very frequently, ranging anywhere from 10% off to 50% off (usually in a "buy one/two, get one xx% off" format). To get those discounts, the consumer has to stay tuned closely to advertisements and/or this board, and s/he might have to be a little less choosy when it comes to characters, but the discounts are out there.

The prices would be fair if all figures were created with sturdy materials and had unflawed paintjobs, but sadly that's not the case. The core figures should probably be $6.99, lightcores should be $9.99, and Giants/Swappers should be $11.99.

I agree with all of you, but I usually buy the figures at full price because I rarely go to a store and since I can't drive, I have no power over when I can go.
This is what I think the prices should be: Cores: 7.99 Lightcores: 8.99 Giants: 11.99, Swappers: 12.99

I think they are overpriced but if you wait sales tend to take care of it for the most.
Giants/swapers $10 singles: $5-$7 range. Or you can wait till the following year and get stuff bogo free. |

I think they're worth it. Think of all the work they have to go through just for the RFID technology. You should be happy they're under 20$ in a single pack.

Worth and value of product will always be subjective. Supply and demand will also always cause prices to raise and fall based on the maintained popularity of the series.
Personally, I think the figures are a couple bucks above what they should be. Given the amount of money I have spent over the years on other things though such as other toys, video games, movies, music, etc. I cant really complain much in comparison. Luckily I have had good luck at TRU this game and got most all the figures for the Buy 1 / Get 1 40% off, and netted a $60 gift card from TRU from my Rewards Card. Only non-TRU purchases this year have been the Enchanted Hoot Loop from Walmart and Nitro Magna Charge plus the 3 newest swappers at Target. |

The swappers are too expensive in imho and that's why i really have bought only variants or won them or picked up the legendaries for now. The others I'll get only if there are sales. Swappers should be as someone pointed out no more than 12.99 and regulars should really drop to 9 bucks. I think the charm is really wearing off for these. The greedier the companies get and try to force on prices, the more they sit on shelves.
I still see many on shelves if there aren't sales as if others do realize now they aren't worth buying at current prices.

I'd say they are worth it, if anything they're only 1-2 dollars too high.
From a toy collector perspective: They have detailed sculpts and dynamic poses (some exceptions from SSA). The downside is that the quality control seems to have dropped since they upped production after the SSA shortages. It's not hard to find an "acceptable" toy but it's much easier now to find toys with poor paint jobs. They work in a quality "permanent" video game (not a "flavor of the month" web browser game that will shut down in a year). From just a video game perspective, I don't really play a lot of modern games so I don't know the "norm" price for DLC like this, but $10 is way too high just to unlock a character in the game, a quarter of that price would be more acceptable, so the physical toy balances out the price.

They were better at the original price of $7.99. But since Gamestop (i think that was who) decided to price creep em, now we're paying a lot more for the figs. Ideally, $7.99 for core, $9.99 for LC and $11.99 for Giants/Swappers would be the best place.
On the other hand, as Okaps point out, I'm mainly looking at the price of the figure. Most toys from other series are around the $7.99-$9.99 price range, and don't do much of anything else besides just kind of sit there.

Honestly, no, I don't think they're worth it. But that's mostly because I'm always going to be paying about $5+ more per figure than what folks in the US have to pay.
Since every Giants figure wound up going down half price, I'm just playing the waiting game with Swap Force (minus exclusives). |

Bad thing about used ones is that if it is a rarer one most people will still sell it close to or above the original retail and then there is the shipping added on top of it.

I wish there were some kind of "club" that would offer discounts on Skylanders the more you've bought. It would help encourage one to stay with the franchise longer, which I think is kind of a lacking aspect at the moment considering how much they're just breaking some things.
I would say for new characters even the $19-ish we pay here for a single SWAP Force is reasonable/acceptable/tolerable, but it would be nice to get a discount after buying five Eruptors... Sure, buying them is our own fault, but I'm just saying wide-eyed-ideally, if this could ever happen it would be really great and it'd make things a bit nicer for those of us who've stuck around. It's just a thought but I realise they wouldn't do it anyway.

I think the price is pretty reasonable, there are just a LOT of figures and it all adds up.
The price is also relative, like when there's a sale on and you walk away with a discounted Skylander; it just feels great to have not payed full price and that is the pay off for being vary aware of the prices on the market. I've also bought a lot used, because I personally don't care too much for keeping anything in it's packaging; last night I got a Boomer, Drill Sergeant and Drobot for £10 on eBay

I still think Activision would be able to make customers super happy, and allow them to make a nice chunk of change would be to offer the characters from their own online shop. I keep using the example of the HotWheelsCollectors website which is the perfect model here. You sign up to get into their club and then you have the offer of buying characters early before they're sent to retail stores. Then they could give you a special figure for signing up too. Then, each character you buy you get points for. Lots of resturants offer some sort of point system and then you get something free after X amount of purchases.

I think the prices are on par with other toys. I used to collect action figures, and still do occasionally. The prices have gone up for those as well. I have every single figure ToyWiz made for Lord of the Rings. They used to be,if memory serves, $6.99 (and at the time that was on the low end for 6 to 8" figures). That was around 10 years ago (darn, now I feel old). The new Hobbit figures of the same scale are $14.99. I realize the Skylanders are smaller, but I was wandering around TRU yesterday and there are tons of Mario, Pokemon, Sonic and who knows what else figures of similar size to Skylanders that are $9.99 and they don't do anything but sit there looking pretty. I wish toys were cheaper in general and I always try to get stuff on sale, but I don't think Skylanders prices are out of line with other toys. I think my biggest issue is that there are a TON of them and they add up. I wish there were fewer figures per game.

There are many Skylanders that are exceptions to this. However, most of the time... you can find use Skylanders for half the price. This is a deal for me. Most of you are spot on though with the amount of Skylanders we must collect to complete our set. But hey! We love all things Skylanders here and most of us wouldn't mind forking out the money for our collection.

Perfectly said. If they only came out with one or two figs for each element each game, the prices would be much easier to stomach. As it is now, it's pretty ridiculous and storage is getting to be a problem.
