The Downfall of Boomer [CLOSED]

I FINALLY found Boomer for a good price, and am one step closer to collecting the original 32. While I was at a pawn store, I found a big bucket filled with them, including THREE Boomers, but not a single Wham-Shell or Sunny Burn. So I bought one, and I also bought a Dragon's Peak sculpture. When buying them, I was talking to my dad about how expensive Boomer normally was. It used to go for over 70 bucks online. So... my dad bought another one of the Boomer's hoping to sell it for some good money.

...Unfortunately when we got home, we found out that Boomer only goes for around 10 bucks online now-adays, so we pretty much deprived one happy collector of his Boomer figure. What happened? You would think that, with the release of Swap Force, that Boomer would become even rarer and more expensive. ...But his time has passed. I wonder what happened over the months?

he's been showing up randomly, so I've heard, with rereleases of SSA figures. Still sort of rare I would think though

Yeah, and Sunburn shouldn't be that hard to find either. My TRU just restocked several Dragon's Peak adventure packs.

He should never have been rare. I'm glad the price of him has gone down and that there's more of him. This isn't a downfall for him, but a blessing for those who need him badly!

Boomers have popped up in some areas at TRU. Some have seen the singles, and others the triples with him. I've seen several cases of both opened in front of me at TRU and yet to find a Boomer. Even Darklight Crypt made a brief appearance at some Walmarts (I was actually able to find one...yippee!). Dragon's Peak (with Sunburn) are plentiful, now. Darklight Crypt even went way down in price. They were going for $100 right before I bought mine. Right after, you were lucky (or unlucky, depending on if you were the seller or buyer) to see them go for $50. I haven't checked either, in a while. I haven't seen any more Darklight Crypts since that one time release, and no reports of any, either. But it did give people hope, enough, to wait on buying them on eBay. I might have to recheck for Boomer as that's the only one my son needs to complete SSA & Giants (not counting variants).

I have only seen Boomer at a store once (in a triple pack that was on sale for $10 at TRU) so I quickly snatched it up. But again, only time I've seen him at a store.

As far as current value, loose Boomers seem to be in the $15-$20 range, while In-Box Boomers are still going for $25-$40 on average.

Lucky you. Our store has yet to receive any Boomers. Even when people were reporting their stores were getting them in, I went in almost every other day to find the same old SSA figures hanging on the pegs. I kept asking if they had any more because I was looking for a particular one and they would always say "no". I thought they might have been holding them all for Black Friday, but when I got there on Thanksgiving (a few hours after the sale started, since I was with family when they opened), I didn't see any more SSA than they typically had, except for maybe more Dino Rangs. In the last couple of weeks, it seems they have gotten a lot more Adventure Packs and 3-packs. I've been in there when they've pulled the boxes, though, and haven't found anything worth while (except maybe Wham Shell, who I already had). I really don't see how some stores are getting lots of Boomers and some get none. If I had the money, and they went on sale for $10, again, I'd be tempted to have you pick one up and ship it for me. smilie

I don't know which websites you're looking at, but a used/loose Boomer in good working condition sells for $23-$35 on eBay currently.

That reminds me.... I need to update my secondary market price guide post for SSA figurines that I made a while back ...

I am glad I never had to buy a Boomer. My friend had a few Skylanders, being almost all the Forgotten 8, and I got Dinp-Rang and Boomer for a duplicate Double Trouble and Ignitor I had.

Great deal on my side, eh?

Voodood is still found easily at Toys R Us, even on sale BOGO, but Boomer not so much. At least that's the case in my area.

Boomer disappeared from the shelves completely everywhere sometime in 2012. I wasn't into Skylanders then, but I've been told by a few people on this board that Boomer was actually one of the least desirable original Skylanders, and that back then (in 2011/12) Boomer could be found in mass quantities everywhere, even when stores were sold out of all other characters.

Voodood, meanwhile, has been available, at least sporadically, fairly consistently all across 2012 and 2013. There have been brief periods of time when Voodood has been pretty hard to locate, but he keeps making comebacks, including a very large re-stocking just recently at Toys R Us everywhere (along with Dino-Rang). That really hasn't happened with Boomer. He remains probably the most elusive non-variant Skylander to find in a retail store ... although series 2 Bash is beginning to approach Boomer's level of scarcity and popularity.

Series 1 Zap, Bash, and Wrecking Ball are also extremely hard to locate in a store.
But the big difference between those 3 and Boomer is that those 3 all have "re-poses" in the Giants series.

You are accurate. I remember when S1 first came out, my Walmart seemingly had about 10-15 Boomers just lying around the shelves. I remember going to my Walmart and refusing to buy him a couple different times. Finally, I broke down and bought Boomer. Now he is one of my favorite Skylanders to play with. Love me some BOOM!

I know a lot of parents who were out searching for that pack out at Toys R Us. Though they kept blabbing away that Hot Dog is impossible to find in stores...maybe not specifically looking for Zap. I think the pack is somewhat easy to find at Gamestop.

Agreed. Scorpion Striker packs are very gradually becoming harder to find, but for now, they are still available in (some) stores. May have to hunt around town a little bit, but should be findable in most places.

I can validate finding a Boomer Triple Pack at TRU today. It is a well picked over store (one that I go to every few days) so it definitely hit the shelves with some of the SSA restock that TRU has been getting in lately.

Now if they could just get the Zook three pack, Bash three pack. Darklight Crypt and a Wham-Shell I can wrap up my SSA set (I got in just with Swap Force).

I think he's kind of cute in-game. It's his figure/artwork that's ugly.

I wonder if the failure of some figures was because they didn't actually try to sell the character. Like Voodood, he gets all the stuff other characters get, but not much else. He gets the usual artwork, and intro video and such, but other then that, nothing really. No real appearances on merchandise or cutscenes or anything else. But Boomer? They actually DID try to sell his character.

Yes, he is one of the characters in the first novel too. So he definitely got a lot of attention.
