While filtering through Half Price Books big box of mixed Skylanders, I found a few miniature Skylanders; miniature versions of Gill Grunt, Terrafin, and another. What are these things and are they worth anything?

They are sidekicks. They basically run around after your character but don't do anything else.

Those are called Skylander Sidekicks. They don't do anything other than follow you around in the game. They used to be exclusive to frito lay chip bags. It was a mail away type promo.

They do function as additional characters in the App game, Lost Islands. So they have a little more use in that, compared to the console games.

As other have mentioned they are called Skylanders Sidekicks. Since they are no longer available (via the promotion) they do fetch a higher price in online markets like eBay.

Sounds like a nice find.

These sound really awesome. How did I not know about Skylander Sidekicks? I am going back tomorrow to pick these up. Who knew?! Haha.

They are rather obscure, mostly available in the US. They were originally released as a Frito-Lay promotion where you mail-in to get them and be given a random one. A second set was released for Giants with online codes given out in Frito-Lay party pack bags.

After that GameStop had them for a short time as a buy $X.XX worth of stuff and get one free.

They are:
First, SSA set:
-Whisper Elf
-Trigger Snappy
-Terrabite
-Gill Runt

Giants set:
-Minijini
-Eye Small
-Barkley
-Thumpling

EB Games Australia (being owned by GameStop) had the same offer for the first set of 4.

There was also a SL book which had one included - not sure if it was only a specific one or two of the first set of 4 or different books all had a random one?

On eBay I've seen the Sidekicks selling for $25 apiece. Definitely go back and buy them out! Wish we had one of those stores near me.

Wow. Anyone dumping their sidekicks at HFB really didn't know what they had. I would think that was crazy as only real Skylander collectors probably knew about them, but Gamestop did have a few promotions that gave them away for free, so it's possible some kids got them and didn't know what they were. I wasn't into Skylanders when the Frito-Lay promotion was going for the SSA set, but I was able to pick a couple up at Gamestop. I forget what the original promotion for them were (it was before I found out about them), but when Polar Whirlwind came out, they did a promotion for them. It was a bit confusing, though, as the ad said with any Skylanders Giants purchase. Different stores had different policies. The first store refused to let me have one at all unless I spent a certain amount (which I think was the original promotion). I tried arguing that that wasn't what the ad said, but he refused to even look because there was a line. I went to another store that was nearby and they said it was with any purchase of Skylander Giants figures. They let me return and rebuy what I picked up at the other store and get one. I then went to another GameStop on the other end of town, later in the day, and they said it had to be an actual Giant. They even showed me that it wouldn't ring up in their register as free unless they rang up a giant. I couldn't argue because the wording could go either way. I then went to another Gamestop in the shopping center next door (crazy that they have 2 right next to each other) and they let me get one with any Skylanders Giants purchase. So I ended up with 2 that day. Still need Terrabite and Trigger Snappy (the latter I thought would be my son's first pick, but he actually picked up Gill Runt instead).

I ended up getting all the Giant sidekicks. I had to purchase the Frito-Lay bags for those, but lucky someone was nice enough to give me two of their codes, so I only had to buy 2 bags

But, definitely, if you see them at HFB, pick them up. Were they $4.99 like the rest of them?

Honestly, I was too stupid to check. I am going back tonight to pick them up if they are reasonable. However, they may be gone by now. Maybe I should have waited to post this topic! Hahaha.

I live near two stores. One store had the Skylanders in a glass case with the video game systems. The other had them under the check out counter. I had to ask to see them and one of the associates stared me down the whole time. It was uncomfortable, lol. They only had SA and Giants.
