I never thought about chase variants. My store has lots of unopened cases of Giants figures sitting on the top shelf. I have them all, so I haven't bothered looking in them. As many as there are, it's possible one is just sitting up there.

Same here. I've been trying to get to my local TRU to look through the dozens of boxes they have.

It shouldn't be too tough to find the Legendaries at TRU ever.

Did anyone else notice the poor L-Free Ranger on the top row (just off-right from center) who's package has fallen open? I've seen that far too many times in many stores. These poor Skylanders need homes too...and I'm here to tell you that the "Mori-Dog Movies foundation for opened Skylanders" needs your support to help get homes for the poor, unfortunate figures who've become a victim of poor quality workmanship, sub-par packaging, or even vandalism. They need to be loved just like all other Skylanders. They will never know what it's like to be a collectable toy, and by no fault of their own. This holiday season, won't you help us by making that purchase? Give them a chance! If you don't have the room to house an unfortunate, un-packaged Skylander, we will gladly take your donation and give them a home with children who will play with them, cherish them, and allow them to breathe in the fresh air that is so desperately needed by their collectable, yet imprisoned, brothers and sisters. Make the purchase, send them to us, and your taxable-donation will be rewarded with not only a "thank you", but the satisfaction that you've done something wonderful for a Skylander in need.

That's the most imbalanced distribution I've ever seen of Skylanders. The store obviously didn't think when placing the figures on display...they need to pack up some of the L. Free Ranger figures in a box and put them in a back room. I am sorry to say, but it's even more disappointing of a display than my Walmart which is overloaded with Flashwings, Whirlwinds, and Shroombooms from Giants that nobody wants. This is the next generation of unwanted figures. TRU has in essence destroyed the appeal factor of their exclusive Legendary figures except to the hardcore fan community. It really is overkill, but I'm sure this Swap Force release has been plenty profitable for them and Activision without regards to future Skylanders games.

I thought it was strange that they released all the Legendaries at the beginning. Are there no other Legendaries to come out? I thought they spread out the releases to keep people coming back. I would say that maybe they're making a big push, then after the holidays, they'll start to dwindle down and eventually be hard to find. But now that they're re-releasing some of the Giants Legendaries, who knows?

Don't forget that Skylanders "4" will be announced in the Spring. And the number of in-game variants yet to be released...Nitro Freeze Blade, Springtime Trigger Happy, Jade Fire Kraken, etc...
Perhaps it's just a way for TRU to get their big push before the fiscal year ends and get some of these exclusives out of the way before the sales die off. The beginning of the years following the release of SSA & Giants were fairly good for sales, but only for so long. And then the shelves were lined with the same thing day after day, store after store. Tons of S2 Cynder still abundantly on the shelves even with the Giants figures being downsized considerably. Not to mention how many Giants Legendaries have been put out lately. Just my speculation, but it seems the game plan is to thin out the population early, then hold back the remainder until the release of the next game. Makes sense to me.

Strongest sales for this game is obviously before Christmas...after that...it will ebb and flow according to the waves, but they will be minor echoes of its former self. Usually by mid April people are done done done with the game-both play wise and finding new figures...most of it after April should be the variants and promotions.

I'm sure however Activision will keep the completionists hostage until next launch.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, I am of the minority that happened to not finish Giants until several weeks ago. So there are a few of us out there that are still playing, and I still don't have all the Giants figures, but yeah, we scaled back buying long before the final wave was released. And with another announcement on the horizon, I'm sure there will be plenty of people growing tired of the cash grab and the faster they push them out, the quicker that time will come.

For a lot of people, the interest was being held by the scattered release of figures, including Legendaries. If you throw them all out at once, you'll lose the interest quickly. And the variants that were mentioned (Nitro Freeze Blade, Springtime Trigger Happy and Jade Fire Kracken) will likely be exclusive to other stores (at least Nitro is definitely a Target exclusive), so other stores will be taking what interest there is left. If TRU spread out their Legendaries, they would be getting in on that interest as well, down the road.

Ah, but most people I talk to in the real world lost interest LONG before the final waves were released. In fact, most stores I frequented had a surplus of later wave figures that wouldn't move at all. I can walk into just about any store locally and find a S2 Cynder and Lightning Rod. And LR was released right before Christmas last year if I'm not mistaken. I can also regularly find LC Shroomboom and Hex. It's entirely possible that they got the message that there isn't enough interest in the spread out release to let it linger for an entire year. Again, all speculation...

I'm guessing overall popularity will wain by the 4th installment, but we'll see a forced 5th game even if it doesn't do well. I know it's blasphemy to say it, but I'm ready to see it die off on a high note rather than keep churning out repeat games with different figures. My family has enjoyed Swap Force, but Infinity has been far more intriguing...except for the fact that you can't use all the figures in the story mode.

Why will nothing be the perfect kids game??? :/

Many of the figures you mentioned as being available all have mis-steps associated with them. S2 Cynder was a bad move because most people didn't bother with the non-portal Starter Pack...ShroomBoom has been packaged in many forms and was over-exposed...Lightning Rod was part of a later restock.

Every game has its life cycle...and I do agree that we're headed for a full on crash without some tempering. I do however think that the actual Skylanders game is way more entertaining than Infinity...but your mileage may vary.

The above overstocking of Legendaries and having them all available at once may in fact be a cue by TRU that they see enough of a decline that they want to cover themselves by offering them all up front. Just a conspiracy theory.

Perfection leads to stagnation. Stagnation means no more profit. If a game is perfect there is no motivation to produce additional material beyond it, as more product additions risks removing the perfection. Every new product however can give off the hopes of perfection while just missing the mark with something. Welcome to capitalism in 'Murica!

Indeed.
And don't forget the abundance of Hot Dog packages. Battle Pack, Single, Molten, Triple w/ Spyro & Bash...
Poor Terrafin has become the SF version of Hot Dog. Makes me wonder what they're thinking in terms of their marketing and production.

And funny you mention the Portal-Owner's pack. You couldn't even get a core Jet-Vac. But Cynder? Pop Fizz was single-packed for console owners, but why couldn't 3DS owners get a single, non-LC JV? Same issue arises for SF. How are 3DS owners going to get Blast Zone, Washbuckler, and S3 Stealth Elf?

The Batman: Arkham games as well as the Uncharted titles were damn close to perfection and I'm ready for more. Don't see why they can't put that kind of quality into a "kids" game instead of rushing something out to meet deadline for a new movie or toy release. The Toy Story 3 game (also by Avalanche) was actually quite good. Not to mention the Disney Universe game. But those are few and far between as more abominations like Iron Man 2 and any of the Shrek games are poured out by the handfuls.

My idea of the perfect kids game? Fun for the WHOLE family...not just dumbed down for toddlers or too complicated for them that daddy has to come play for them every 5 minutes to make that dag-blasted frekkin stupid character jump the gap that has to be timed exactly right with controls that are so unresponsive that...sorry. I got a little carried away. Where was I? Oh yeah, fun for all AND affordable. But yeah, 'Murica. That's asking too much. smilie

Quick heads-up on Toys R Us:

They are having a "one-day sale" Wednesday 12/18/13. One of the promotions is BOGO on all Skylanders Giants. They're also currently running $25 off Swap Force starter packs, and Two-for-$22 on the "swappers" characters from Swap Force. Spyro's Adventure characters are all BOGO, too, including Triple Packs.

Stock will vary by store, but the Toys R Us I visited this evening was stocking a large amount of "wave 2 swappers", including lots of Fire Kraken, which seems to be hard-to-find, in general, for some weird reason. They also recently received a gigantic supply of all Giants (Ninjini, Thumpback, etc.) ... the only Giant they didn't have is Swarm, which I thought was funny, because there was a time this past spring/summer when Swarm was the *only* Giant on the shelves in stores. There were a handful of Legendary Bouncer and Legendary Stealth Elf. Tons of Voodood and Dino-Rang. One other thing that was curious is they appear to have recently stocked a very large amount of Terrafin/Stealth Elf/Eruptor Series 2 Triple Packs. There's too many versions of Eruptor out there in my opinion, but for what it's worth, the Series 2 Eruptor has been surprisingly scarce in recent months. If you're a die-hard Eruptor fan, and have been wanting the Series 2 Eruptor, you may have a new chance to get him in the Triple Pack.

I've seen that Triple Pack before, but always at Target or Wal-Mart in the past. I've never seen it stocked at Toys R Us until now ... and they have a slew of them now. It may just be wishful thinking, but I take that as a sign that maybe, just maybe, someday, we'll finally actually see the Triple Pack with Series 2 Bash in it in the USA.

I think Fire Krakan is just very cool looking to most ppl. My son loves him thou he loves grilla drilla more. I think that's why Fire is hard cause he's popular!

Boom Jet seems to be the one i see everywhere, guess no one likes him. I got him cause I like how the figures look riding a rocket smilie
