I'm not new to this board, I've just never posted. As such I probably have no credibility, but since I don't see any Wave 3 USA date posts anymore, I thought now would be the time to contribute. I live in St Louis and just got off the phone with two local Toys R Us branches. I asked about Wave 3. Both confirmed they'd received trucks today and Wave 3 was on it with a debut tomorrow morning.

Anyone else want to make some calls and verify? Hope this helps.

I was just at the Toys R Us, here in Columbia, MD.

Spoke with an employee that claimed that just got their manifest today. The release day they are claiming for Wave 3, including Sheep Wreck Island is the 22nd of December. Take it for what you will.

I'm guessing it's a piece of Wave 3, the swappers coming exclusive to Target. That's my .02.

One Box of 12 ... My Guess.

1 Phantom Cynder
1 Hyper Beam Prism Break
1 Horn Blast Whirlwind
3 Smolderdash
3 Dune Bug
2 Lightcore Countdown
1 Lightcore Wham Shell

Hmmm so one TRU says next week. Two I called in the Midwest said tomorrow. And another saying the swappers are probably Target exclusive. How frustrating smilie. I was hoping someone else got the responses I did.

The reason you didn't see the hundred Oh one posts about Wave 3 is because they have all been moved to the "Toys and Merchandise" section, where they belong.

Welcome to the forum!

Interesting how everyone claims to know someone or asked someone at TRU who tells them something different. The TRU I work for had no release date and no hidden boxes. None of us including teh store manager have heard anything. Nothing in the weekly ad or emails . . ? If these boxes DO exist why does no one have a picture of even the box with release date? We should be concentrating on fact, not rumor. The stores only get the manifest the day before and the employees usually don't know what is in stock until the night crew scans them in after hours. Sometimes these waves arrive UPS or FedEx and wont be on the manifest.

I just called two other TRU's that I don't work at and asked about new wave 3 Skylanders and both stores had no information at all. The night crews would have started unloading the truck for the night an hour ago so if there were new stuff it would be on the floor by now. Sorry to spoil your hopes, at least here in Northern TX.

Lightcores come in their own case separate from corelanders so adjust #s accordingly... wave 3 cases could also include original wave 1's and 2's

Given my local Columbia store didnt even know details about the special Gill Grunt in their own ads being advertised on release day, I generally take everything they say with a grain of salt anyways. I'm still waiting for that stupid alleged email too.

Not sure if the single figures are carrying a different release date from the Adventure pack itself, as he couldn't give me any confirmation on Skylanders by name. However when I used "Sheep Wreck" he knew what I was talking about and provided the date. Of course when I called on the phone Friday evening, I was told to check in the store on Monday. Frankly, the Columbia store is employed by dimwits. I just figured I'd throw out another date, in the off chance it came up with anyone else.

If you don't know who the temp help is vs. the seasoned staff, then don't bother. I think we would've heard sweeping comments by those who took his advice this morning and Wave 3 was gracing every TRU shelf across the US.

TRU is trying to clear inventory from the first two games still. That is why they constantly have BOGO 40% or 50% off. Hopefully after that we will see more swap force but I can say it will not be before Christmas. This weeks ad features Jolly Bumble Blast which came out a week ago and my store only had 1 box. I went to another one last night and they had like 30 of them.

Actually, this did more harm than good, "Manabyte".
I don't know how many times I've had to say this throughout these forums, but hell, I'll say it again:

VERBAL REPORTS FROM "YOUR GUY" AT YOUR LOCAL TOYS R US OR GAMESTOP STORE(S) ARE GENERALLY WORTHLESS AND ARE NOT WORTH POSTING IN THESE FORUMS.

Your intentions may be good, but posting hearsay reports creates unnecessary anxiety, causes people to waste time (and money on gas), and clutters-up the forum ... making it more difficult to find, read, and contribute to ACTUAL real information and discussion.
More than 90% of the time, these hearsay type reports are bogus, false, malicious, or worse. It isn't funny. It isn't benign.

Here are the following that ARE worth reporting in advance of releases:

  • "Leaked" copies of upcoming published weekly advertisements (or "circulars") from major retail stores.
  • "Hot Toy Alerts" and other similar email notifications distributed by major retailers to their "fan club" or "notifications" email lists.
  • Authentic photos of merchandise on the shelves (or "pegs") in actual stores.
  • Credible verbal reports directly from corporate and regional-level employees of major retailers.

The following are NOT worth posting (no, really, they're not worth posting; don't do it), and should be discouraged:
Any verbal reports from ...

  • Employees from local storefronts, especially Toys R Us and GameStop employees. It does not matter if you personally know the employee or not.
  • Your friend who works at a retail store.
  • Your friend's friend who works at a retail store.
  • The "manager" at a retail store.
  • Your boss.
  • Your mom.
  • Your friend's mom.

This is one of my favorite quotes from Jon Stewart: "If we amplify everything, we hear nothing."
I never thought that message would apply to Skylanders, but hey, the shoe fits here.
STOP posting HEARSAY about release dates .... it doesn't matter if you're super-duper excited or if you just think you'll explode and pee your pants if you don't share your "big news" .... STOP.

Frankly, mini-mod posts like yours are just as annoying to read than hear-say reports.

I, for one, can appreciate any report from a user that legitimately tried to find out info. That just gives others the heads up to get on the phones themselves and do some research. No one is telling you to hop in a car and drive to these places. Just get on the phone, check for yourself, if you get a positive confirm, then hurray! If not, then just move on with your day and be done with it.

Posts in thread regarding the speculation on a wave release are hardly the main cause of clutter on the forums here. If people are just randomly driving from place to place and wasting gas, thats on them, not the person posting. I post information I get from a store so people DONT have to waste their time going to a location to get the same information I just got. Never mind that a large portion of the users here can't even legally drive themselves anywhere. So if anyone is wasting anything, its the parent. If the parent if going off their kids word of mouth alone rather than doing any actual research themselves...well...I have no sympathy for them.

The point of posting things from people's "source" is for comparison. Hard facts like leaked flyers and emails are great but hardly the norm. When people can compare their various information from employees, normally one of two things happened. 1) The information is all over the place so much, that no one should rely on any of it. 2) the information all starts to sound the same in regards to a date, at which point it can normally start to become more likely as solid information.

If the Mods, want to shut down these threads. That's the Mods job on the forums. Shut them all down. Ban all the speculation threads and lock them/delete them on sight. I'd rather discuss various release date theories than see another "Fan club" thread or polls trying to ask who's the *coolest* Skylanders (half the time with characters that aren't even released yet), which is just a popularity contest on appearance a majority of the time. Otherwise, if someone doesnt like the threads...ignore them.

Although I think it's very useful to know what information can and cannot be trusted, I don't mind the false leadss. Part of the fun of hunting is failing sometimes. My kids and I spent a lot of time together going to the store just in case they had something new. I'll never forget the look on my daughter's face when she found Ninjini. Sometimes I wonder if it's better not to read this site at all and kill part of the surprise. There is always the possibility of chase variants though, can never get inside info on that..

@ YOLOrenzo: You're entitled to your opinion, and I fully disagree with you.
I can also appreciate a user's intentions when s/he legitimately tried to find information out. I even said that in my post above. Reading comprehension is hard, I know.
The point is that, despite good intentions, posting hearsay about release dates is worthless. The hearsay almost never pans out to be accurate, and all it does is create anxiety (bordering on panic, in some users' cases) and set people's unrealistic expectations.

@GothamLord: You may have some unrealistic expectations or illusions about the moderators' role here. They're charged with preventing harassment, spam, and lewd imagery. They also, occasionally, settle minor disputes between users. They are definitely not in the habit (not should they be in the habit) of spending their volunteer time weeding-out hearsay, speculation, and rumors based on unreliable informants. There is no need to "ban all the speculation threads and lock/delete them on site" ... that's hyperbole. Rather, it is OUR job, as the forum users, to set expectations for our community when it comes to things like our standards for posting release date information.

@ Melvimbe: Your newness and attitude are refreshing. While your input is appreciated, I would ask that you reserve judgment on this topic until you've been around the forum long enough to grasp how bad our problem with hearsay dates really is.

Actually this is one of the cases where I would think a bit of self control is in order. Yes, you can simply skip over and that is a good thing, but int he case of all of this rampant wave release speculation it is actively harmful, it causes people to make futile trips to stores on days and inundates employees with people asking about it - and in turn gets passed on as fact to other customers. It also buries more reliable information. We have had at least a half dozen release dates come and go with people running out to check for figures that aren't there.

Every time you post info from an employee that "heard" something keep in mind he may have heard it from another customer just as clueless about the date as you are. There are a few typically reliable sources, and if you think you have some valid info that isn't just some random employee you have never talked to before, don't be surprised if you get pushback unless you have something solid, like a photo.

So far, from everything I have seen there are two sources of info I really consider truly accurate that have posted on Wave 3. Lesty says the 29th at Target for the SWAPPERS ONLY under some kind of "we get them first" thing. A TRU guy at CAG (that has never been wrong) says the 22nd for the SINGLES ONLY, says some store including his have started getting them with that date on them. No word on lightcores, Sheep Wreck or the Battle packs.

STOP posting HEARSAY about release dates .... it doesn't matter if you're super-duper excited or if you just think you'll explode and pee your pants if you don't share your "big news" .... STOP.

*this message is directed at everyone, not just any one or two persons*

It is fair to point out that some rumor reports have lead to fruitful endeavors. A lot of info. on these boards is hearsay and rumor. Some of it pans out some does not. I believe that the o.p. was told the info. he shared by a T.R.U. employee. I also thank him for sharing. The Arizona Target leak got everyone excited and made this sound possible. We've also been told by 'credible sources" that T.R.U. was getting all subsequent waves of swappers first and as a two week exclusive but it appears that wasn't true either. Posters and reader have to share some responsibility when sharing/reading the info. on these boards. The o.p. said where he heard the info. Frankly the rumor mill is kind of fun. Some of the info. pans out and some does not. I don't blame anyone on these boards for getting me too pumped up or wasting my gas. Anyone who does needs to accept a little responsibility for their own actions and stop blaming others for their poor decisions. I can't believe Activision is still using the same crummy old release platform that has earned them so many negative comments. I don't know why they can't give release dates for release waves. I think they like the attention, even if it is negative.

Regarding wave three, I'd watch for Target and T.R.U. to post something in the an add the week of their actual release. They both did this for wave to and I believe they will do this again. Also ebay is a fair indicator of new releases. To be fair wave three was on ebay so take that for what it is.

If anyone on the boards here is getting into a so called "panic" over the release dates, that's a personal problem on the user. One that probably should involve them seeking medical or psychiatric help. You know what else is worthless? Arguing on the internet.

Quote:
You may have some unrealistic expectations or illusions about the moderators' role here.

I've been a mod before on forums. So I don't have any confusion on the job. Being a mod is a thankless job that normally takes up far more free time than its worth. Perhaps you should try some of that reading comprehension, you wanted to just knock someone else on. I never said for the mods to weed out hearsay or anything else along those trains of thought. They can however shut down and remove threads/posts that are troublesome. If these topics are causing the online community to go into a "panic" as you claim, well then they shouldn't be on the forums. Policing ourselves is all well and good, but I think *you* have some unrealistic expectations or illusions on the user base for this site, given the majority age range of the people here.

Not a mod post...trying to set guidance on what's accepted vs what's not. I've had to wade through piles of crap threads purporting Wave 3 is out. I'd like the next one to be a legitimate one.

Then stop reading them?

Unfortunately, I won't know the value of information unless I read it. The point being we've set guidance here on what constitutes decent, reliable information. Some folks have EARNED their ranks based on their laser point accuracy. Sorry for the wirty dord but I was taking an alternate approach to Bahamut in communicating our equal frustration.

That being said...for every 5 threads that get needlessly created I know Bahamut and others keep silent. Even Matteomax chimed in this time. The threshold has been exceeded and this was a friendly reminder on how I think many would like to see it handled. It may or may not happen but at least it's "out there" now. In my opinion, anyone who can have a web login and post words can follow this information, despite what the previous poster said.

Hey, if everyone thinks we need 30 false Wave 3 threads, have at it. But good luck when the real deal gets buried in the falsehoods and you lose your chance to get these before Christmas. Now that would be a true tragedy. smilie

TRU is trying to clear inventory from the first two games still. That is why they constantly have BOGO 40% or 50% off.

I don't know that that's why exactly. I'm sure they do have old stuff they want to move, but I think TRUs in a lot of places have been getting MORE SSA figures in. Dinorangs, Voodoods, adventure packs, legendaries, all restocked (maybe not everwhere, but from what I've read on here it's not just my store). Also, they started out with the BOGO sales from the time Swap Force came out. I submit that this is just a marketing scheme. They have higher prices, then have a sale that sounds really good to the ear but actually only saves you a few bucks PLUS makes you inclined to buy two even if you went in there just looking for one. It's not that they're desperate to get rid of stuff, they want to sound like the best place to go for Skylanders.

That sale is definitely going to add up and save you a bit of money if you are a big collector, as many of us are, and were going to buy a ton of stuff anyway. But they will get a good many casual gamers and parents to go to them instead of somewhere else and on top of it they may very well get them to walk out of the store with double the amount of figures they went in to get.

I agree that we have many users that shouldn't be on the forums, but that's doesn't change the fact that they are here, and there is nothing that can be done about that.
What we CAN do ... is set some basic guidelines regarding what information (about future release dates) is HELPFUL to the community, and what information is WORTHLESS (or even harmful). If you don't think we should do that, then fine; that's your opinion. My opinion (which I know many others share here) is that we DO need to exercise a LOT more restraint when posting information (about future release dates) that amounts to nothing more than hearsay.

GhostRoaster, as per usual, is correct. The notion of "well, don't read the hearsay threads" is absurd. How shall we determine what information is reliable/worthwhile (versus hearsay/garbage) without reading it? That's EXACTLY why we need (way!) fewer garbage speculation and hearsay threads and posts. Our users deserve integrity, and they deserve at least a modicum of accuracy. That's really not too much to ask.

Like GhostRoaster said: if everyone thinks we need thirty false/garbage/hearsay threads about "wave 3" releases, then great, go for it.
But I'm done sitting by and pretending that we, as a community, can't do better than that. We most certainly can do better, and we should, too.

Guidelines are great. I'm all for guidelines... assuming that they actually get enforced. Otherwise they are meaningless ramblings. Speculation on what the random employee said at random store isnt a bad thing. People just need to actually understand that its just speculation. Its the people making threads and screaming "FACT!" about such things that are the issue when its clear nothing is set in stone until its on the shelves.

I dont think anyone wants 30 random threads of nonsense. One primary thread, and locking/deleting/merging the others that get created however would likely relive much of the needless garbage.

If you believe the moderators of this particular section of this forum are going to do that, I think you may be mistaken. If they were going to do that, surely they already would have done so. Perhaps they should help us out in that fashion, but their style tends to be more lassie-fairre than what you seem to believe (or want to believe).

Regardless, there is no need to pass the buck to the moderators in this situation. We, as the users of this forum and community, can and should do a much better job of being FAR more selective about what hearsay we post.

LOL, GTFO your soap box man. The original post even stated "Anyone else want to make some calls and verify? Hope this helps."

Take the post for what it is - hear-say info that you could follow up on your own. This isn't the war on terror - this isn't a civil rights movement - just move on with your life!

And yes I can read, and the post I quoted was in no means positive and just served as a platform for you to stroke your e-peen.

If you think I'm here to "stroke an e-peen", YOLOrenzo, then you are a confused individual.

To be frank, anyone who uses the acronyms "YOLO", "LOL", and "GTFO" in the same post probably has the mentality and maturity of a 12-year-old. Sorry if that offends any sensitivities.
Also, if you think that my discourse in this thread is based on observations solely from the OP of this one thread, then you haven't been paying attention to these forums recently.
I'm not trying to single-out the OP of this thread, at all. He/She is just one of a host of users that is, collectively, feeding our community (WAY!) too much bad/unreliable/false/hearsay/garbage.

You attacked my reading comprehension kiddo - my original post didn't attack you at all and was just making a counter point. And you're taking posts on a Spyro fan site far too seriously.

And yes, I've seen all the threads. I know how to use a phone though and never felt the need to waste my time writing up an essay on rumor posting guidelines.

And YOLO incorporates my actual name and I find the term annoyingly funny. Sorry if it isn't as mature as BahamutBreaker. LOL.

Should, yes. Will they, Probably not. I don't disagree with that. Doesn't mean that its not in their purview. It's more disappointment than anything. I'm not going to turn this into a public questioning of moderators though, so I'll press on. Being around the community off and on for two years now, its clear from my perspective that self-moderation is lacking. Self-Moderation requires a certain level of maturity. Maturity comes with age. While there are exceptions to every rule (This goes towards immature adults too), a forum with such a large community of young-ins needs a less light handed approach... Else the inmates run the asylum.

Personal opinion. Trust me I'd love to be with you on the "Online family" concept. I just don't foresee it happenings in this environment.

^Point taken, and it is indeed a balancing act between trying to not be super strict a to allow communication of thoughts while at the same time making sure that communication is relevant and worthy of the thread / space it takes. Being here now my second year I can say it "seems" to be better than in the past, so perhaps the tide is turning.

I'll be the optimist today smilie

Then only read those post? I get the felling the more time I spend here is an 'elitism' that has been garnered by a few and those people will throw down unbelievable amount of angst at anyone that they believe hasn't 'EARNED' a rank. For crying out loud, the first post start off with:
Quote:
I'm not new to this board, I've just never posted. As such I probably have no credibility,

So there is your cue to stop reading the thread! Instead some people chose talk down to others and instead of taking the high road and simply reporting what 'you thought shouldn't be here' and decided to 'pretendamod' on the thread. You aren't helping either!

Quote: defpally

Actually this is one of the cases where I would think a bit of self control is in order. Yes, you can simply skip over and that is a good thing, but int he case of all of this rampant wave release speculation it is actively harmful, it causes people to make futile trips to stores

The OP or original poster never suggested getting in your car and going anywhere, No sure where you pulled that from? In fact the phrase was:

Quote:
Anyone else want to make some calls and verify?

You think that just because of this post that there are a significant more amount of calls to certain stores?? I'm sorry but, I hear people calling and asking everyday, and none of them have even heard of this site. Instead of encouraging people to post what they have heard, which the OP clearly stated he had no 'credibility' , this type of response will only drive those that might get a hint before other to NOT post due to this type of backlash.

This is suppose to be a family friendly site, about a family friendly game....yet, I log in day after day and I see tons of angst aimed at people.

Again, the post started with this:
Quote:
I'm not new to this board, I've just never posted. As such I probably have no credibility,

So there is your clue to stop reading, or by all means, hold these peoples feet to the fire and play 'pretendamod'. Your choice
