The title says it all! My store actually got in 12 of them today and somoene put them out on the shelves. A customer tried to buy one and totally threw a fit that the computer said the street date was 12/8. My manager scanned a regular figure for him but gave him Jolly Bumble Blast instead, just to shut him up. We pulled the rest off of the shelves, but not before I grabbed one for myself and reserved it with my name for Sunday! The benefits of working at Toys R Us... xD

I am glad that TRU is getting this (Exclusive or First) rather than Game Stop.

Um.. Game Stop's street date is 12/07 and TRU is 12/08 - Why do you say TRU is getting it first or exclusive? I think you're confused.

I am going to assume that he prob will be in next sunday's ad then, im basing this off the fact he has a street date. I expect walmart to prob get him within 2 weeks as they tend to be around the same time as other, target lately been the one getting stuff later...ie gnarly and pumpkin eyebrawl.

I should rephrase that:
I am glad that Jolly is not exclusive to GS and that other stores get him the same week. |

There won't be a problem getting Jolly...there's going to be enough via stores and online that you should be fine as long as you do it as soon as it becomes available.

^ Agree with GhostRoaster ... Jolly Bumble Blast is not going to be a huge seller. I assume it will do better than Pumpkin Eye Brawl simply because it has a lower price point (not a Giant), but I really think us DarkSpyro fanatics are, in general, overly excited about Jolly Bumble Blast just because it's a variant .... most consumers really do not care.

I think unknowing parents will pick it up b/c he's dressed like Santa. It's also nice to be able to find an in-game variant in mass quantities and it looks like this guy will be everywhere.

Well, that and there's going to be enough venues in both brick/mortar and online that it won't be hard...even if there is demand (and the majority won't care as you indicate).

It will probably sell better than Pumpkin Eye Brawl just because it's an in-game variant, and from what I've read opens a hat in-game. |

It isn't going to be hard to find, at least not if you actually look around prior to Christmas. I was in TRU yesterday, two days after Black Friday and TRU was still loaded to the brim with Skylanders, the only thing I didn't see were the Wave 2 swappers (they did have Boom Jet and Legendary Night Shift). The place was wrecked at the same time last year. If the bargains going around weren't enough to wipe out stock, then I don't think anyone will have trouble tracking down Jolly if they are even somewhat on the ball. If you want him, go to TRU (or Best Buy, etc.) on Sunday or Gamestop on Saturday. No muss, no fuss.

The flip side of this is that casual gamers felt pretty burned on PEB because of lack of in game representation (despite visual information contrary) and may stay away from it. Amazon reviews are pretty scathing on it and consumers don't forgive easily.

Variants are definitely cooling. Legendary figures appear to not be moving very fast, judging from the lack of people on release and the shelves. I still see lots of Nitro Magna Charge on the shelves. Enchanted Hoot Loops are still in Walmart (and available online). Gnarly is still fairly common, as is Pumpkin.
I think they went to this well one too many times. I have to wonder to myself if some of the cooling on Skylanders is them pushing it a bit too far on the variants making parents say "enough". Not that I think it's not going to do well, but it just isn't the craze it was last year or the year before. They probably need to focus on quality (uniqueness) over quantity next year with whatever gimmick they come up with, people are tiring of buying the same figure over and over. |

I fully endorse this post. I've cut 40% and that doesn't include the chase stuff (which pobably accounted for probably 50% of last year's Skylander spending). Enough is really enough. Work on more / better content (with a patching policy) and release a more realistic number of figures (30 or less). That's my hope for 2014's entry.

If they gave variants unique attacks, that would help them sell a bit better.

Yeah, you and I were at the Legendary releases - alone. And those were advertised well in advance. The only other people there were getting Infinity discs (only a couple of them, too). The Legendary figures are the most "different" of any variant, given they usually have different/better stats giving more incentive to get them. I cannot imagine more people will be after Jolly, particularly since he will be at practically every store. |

I was thinking that they released too many new figures this time around. I'm not sure of the solution since just re-releasing a bunch of reposed figures don't work either. I get reminded of when I used to collect Hot Wheels. There used to be 24 first editions every year, and several I each year became hard to find. They then jumped to having 100 a year. It became too much and I, as I'm sure a lot of others, quit collecting them. Now I don't think any of them are worth anything because there's little interest.

I got one at Target tonight. They had about 3-4 of them out. I took a Sprocket with me up to the register because I figured there'd be an issue with JBB ringing up with a release date restriction. The cashier was confused as to why her computer was saying that she couldn't sell it yet so she jut rang up two Sprockets. I told her I didn't want Sprocket after all and walked out with JBB.
He's pretty awesome. The hat he comes with had nice stats. 12 speed, 15 armor, 40 health. |

See, I think Jolly Bumble Blast may be a scalper's delight. Holiday themed, variant represented in game, and brings an in game hat to the table.
Regardless, I am in it to win it Saturday morning. Getting one and only one for us, and if its anything like I saw at Target when Jade Flashwing was released (scalper had about 20 in cart 1 minute after store opened), I may stick around and play 'hallway monitor" to make sure Gamestop enforces some kind of limit per customer. |

I'm getting one for sure. Playing it a bit. And then tying some string on him and hanging him from the Christmas Tree, front and center.

I could have did that today at my local target but I didn't get the employee in trouble and she put the three back in the back room for now. It sucks in not being able to get them until sunday but in all honesty once you put it out really they should just scan them, etc. I know there's a street date but that's not the consumers fault and in most cases with the laws these days they have to honor it.

I saw 2 of these in targets, scanned them at the price checker and they gave an odd message, which lead me to believe there would be no way they would work up front. So i took my two and hid them as i wont be able to get back tot his store till mon/tues. Hopefully they are still there when I go
As for jade flashwing...i saw ppl buy 10-20 at a time in one store...so this is why i hide the 2 i found |

Actually they did cry foul on the release. They were in my TRU store to buy everything on release day. If it wasn't on sale, they wernt going to get it. However, I won't get anything from VV ever again after they pulled the rug out from under me on a job offer.

Just a heads up for those in the North Metro Atlanta Area - the two TRU I went to yesterday said they do not have JBB in yet and, even if they had him, they wouldn't put him out until 12/15. Supposedly they were instructed to hold him because he and other Skylanders appear in next weekend's ad.
Bahamut - before you jump on me with the "heresay" diatribe, I think this meets your qualifications since it was a single employee from two different stores... |

I was able to get him at Best Buy on the 8th. He was in the flyer, but none were on the shelves. I had to ask an employee who brought one out from the back. Not sure if they just forgot to put them out or are keeping them in back intentionally to discourage the scalpers. Knowing Best Buy, probably the former.
